2022 Lund 1875 Fisherman Rigged for Flaming Gorge

Ойын-сауық

Don Allphin reviews his new (to him) fishing boat. It is a Lund Fisherman 1875 build in 2022. Don show the entire boat and points out the specific riggings for him. He took off the trolling motor that came with the boat ( a 60-inch shafted Minn Kota Ulterra with 80 pounds of thrust). He purchased a 72-inch shaft with 112-pounds of thrust and 36 volts instead of 24 volts. It draws fewer amps and a 24-volt system. Also, he installed two 36-volt Amped Outdoors' Lithium batteries installed in parallel. This way his boat can stay on the water for 14 to 16 hours on one charge, even in Flaming Gore winds. He also installed two Garmin Live Scopes, on in the console area and the other on the bow next to the trolling motor. Don also shows his custom made downrigger mounts crafted with Bro Craft plates and an aluminum wrap around than hooks into the outside channel. So, both channels help hold the mount tight. It is a great design and very strong. All told, Don believes this boat is rigged properly for the winds, the sun, and the cold of Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

    Don, great video. I’m coming out tomorrow to fish a couple of days. I need to get that boat latch ordered. I guess I can call the boat latch place tomorrow and find out what model my Thunderjet would take. Looks awesome. Hopefully I’ll get to visit with you.

    I hooked up my Garmin live scope to my Ridgid drill batteries. The Garmin will take 18 volts to run it. It works nice and doesn't draw down your main batteries. two 9 amp batteries that will run the system all day. I have 2 9 amp and two 6 amp for backup.

    All I can do right now with the helix 9 is turn the sensitivity up to 100 percent. Now, it is showing more fish but I actually believe where the transducer is mounted “may” also be the problem. I will continue to experiment and report back in. Thanks for the comment.

    Don. Could you go more in depth on how the transducer setup works on the trolling motor without getting all tangled up? Just not seeing how it works exactly. Thanks for the walkthrough!

  • @doafish

    @doafish

    2 ай бұрын

    It is really simple. First you mount your transducer to the bottom of your trolling motor. I use a RYTEK Marine. I bought a bracket form my 3 in 1 Lowrance (rytekmarine.com/collections/lowrance-totalscan-3d-lss2-3in1-2in1-trippleshot) Then, I purchased a 6-foot bicycle cable (for locking a bike). They have two eyes, one on each end of the cable. Then I purchased a standard stainless steel eye screw in roughly the same size as the screw that went in the forward hole on the minn kota cover. It screws right into the plastic and it is tight. Then, I purchased two stainless steel carabiners one for each end to hook into the "eyes" of the bike cable. Next, I purchased 25 feet of mesh cable surround in 1 inch size. Finally, put a hose clamp (stainless) on the bottom of the shaft to secure it so it does not move. I used some strong electrical tape to secure the cable to the transducer cable. When I put it all together, I have a coil including the transducer cable, the bike cable inside a mesh holder that runs on the outside of the motor shafts as it deploys. It does not wrap around the shaft while using. Then, when I stow the motor it all coils back up as the motor rises and becomes a compact coil as you could see in the video. If you still can't picture it, imagine a slinky secured on both ends of the shaft. When the shaft goes down, the Slinky move out like an accordion. then when the shaft moves up, the slinky comes right back to the starting spot. It is really quite something to watch.

    With all the gear upfront reaching over the bow is almost impossible so I bought the "boat to trailer" auto hookup. Life saver 65 and hard to reach over to wench up the boat from the bow.

    The key is locating the Bro Craft 6x6 mount for the angle of your channel. My assumption if it is not a 90 degree it should be 45 degrees. Then, if you can check to see if your impact has an outside channel. If it does, I will get you AJ's number and you can work directly with him. He is a very good guy. I will take a look online and see if I can answer some or the questions.

    I just looked online. You have a 45 degree channel on your Impact. So, go to Bro Craft online and look at the universal mount for god holders etc. Then, measure the width of you gunwale. Then, check for that outside track. If you can get that information, let me know and I will get you AJ's number.

    Don, It's a bummer your talking down about your local dealership. This boat was spec'd to the original owners wants/needs. As a used boat we all change and make upgrades to our boats and don't forget. COST plays a large role in how all boats are optioned. Otherwise we would all have the latest and greatest top of the line units. I'd recommend stopping in sometime, we can upgrade you to the new Quest series Minnkota Ulterra and get you more efficiency power out of your lithium batteries. Be careful also, your lithium batteries will hurt that Minnkota's motor if run at to high of a speed for too long.

    If you actually watched the video you may have noticed that I said several times that Roger;s Marine was a good company that simply didn’t seem to understand how to rig the LUND 1875 FISHERMAN for Flaming Gorge Reservoir.. According to the previous owner of the boat, four Identical boats in different colors were sold brand new in my little town. At least two of the four had enough money to order what they wanted. I cut the company some slack because the FISHERMAN series has only been available for three years now, My intent was to tell the story of what I needed to do to make this boat work in big water, nothing more. If done from the factory, the 36-volt system and the upgrade in shaft and thrust would have been around a thousand dollars (according to dealers near the Great. Lakes). I had direct contact with one of Roger’s Marine stores and when I explained what I wanted the manager (Bailey) said the following: 1. 60 inch shafts are plenty for that boat. 2. 80-pound thrusts are fine because we NEVER recommend people troll with their electric trolling motors. It became obvious to me that he didn’t realize that the vast majority of fishing boats on Flaming Gorge use electric trolling motors to troll for Kokanee and even for giant lake trout. And, in a 15-mph wind they can’t stay on spot lock with that short of shaft and lack of power. I now understand that they are beginning to understand the problem and at least two of my viewers have since purchased LUNDS from Roger’s and they were happy to have them rigged the way I wanted. As for the Quest, I believe that will be a great solution for people in the future. I am NOT an early adopter when it comes to trolling motors. I have owned five trolling motors when they first came out (within 3 years of their debuts). And without exception, I had warranty issues with all five (Motorguide and Minn Kota). Once the bugs were worked out I have LOVED my two MInn Kota Ultrex motors. And, I love the Ulterra on the boat now. But, certainly, when my Elite Series and MLF friends tell me it’s time for an upgrade, I will be ready for the Quest. I do appreciate your comment however, if you were the only LUND dealer in Utah and Wyoming, I do believe you need to be acutely aware of where your boats will be used and you should know how to rig them to be the best they can be. I like Roger’s Marine and I recommend people to them every week.

    Thanks Don for making this video. I am buying a 2024 1875 Fisherman, picking it up next week in Nebraska. I subscribed to your channel. I am from the Midwest, just retired and moved to Northern Alabama. Is there a way to contact you for more details on your boat setup, like messenger or email etc.? Again thanks for sharing. I have been researching what new batteries to buy for my new boat to get rid of my 5 heavy weight AGM’s. As far as trolling motors go, I contacted Minkota Tech Support today and if you don’t have a new brushless TM and you employ the new Lithium batteries, you cannot exceed 80% power or you will overload and fry the mother board in your older TM.

  • @doafish

    @doafish

    2 ай бұрын

    Yes, I have been around Garmin 2D. I like it A LOT better than Humminbird BUT, even the Garmin 2D doesn't compare with my Lowrance HDS9 Live unit. And, I really like Minn Kota trolling motors though their universal 2D sonar really doesn't compare to the real thing from whichever manufacturer. Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I will play around with my Helix 9 and come up with a way to utilize it in my fishing. But, right now strictly talking about standard 2D (not mega imaging, down or side view) but just a wider cone angle on the transducer simply doesn't ring my bell so to speak. the late Aaron Martens taught me that "most" of the science of fish finders was invented in the 1950s but these last ten years has "spoiled" us because it has become so easy to spot fish, tell the species, and watch the strike. Even when you do not chase technology, you can still find and catch fish as long as you have a decent finder.

    I bought a Lund Tyee from Rogers in March. They told me that they put the 36 volt 72 inch minkotas on all of there boats now. Like you I also have some issues with the humminbird 10 that came on my boat. I cannot get some of the combination screens that I want. I also like to color code multiple depths, and with the humminbird you can only do one deep depth and one shallow depth. The humminbird does not show fish or other objects nearly as well as Garmin and Lowrance units I have had. I have noticed this in boats of my friends that have humminbirds also. Maybe I am doing something wrong but as of right now I am not pleased with the humminbird. I am replacing it with a Garmin. I really liked the boat2trailer setup. I think I will get one. My old crestliner was pretty easy to get off the bow and crank it on. Not so with the Lund. Thanks for your videos. Good fishing!!!

    Kelly, I don't think you are doing anything incorrectly. Yes, there are a bunch of settings for Humminbird just like there are for all the other fish finders. And, a lot of the best anglers in the world swear by not at Humminbird. My problem and yours I believe is simply not enjoying the screens on the Humminbird nearly as much as those on Garmin or Lowrance. I am going to get in depth with my Helix 9 and see if I can't make it perform better. And, I will let you know if I come up with a better solution. Thanks for your comment.

    I bought the Lake-master card which allows you to do additional depth shading and many other things. I have the Helix 10 G4N Mega SI on the bow of my Lund Pro-V. I just bought another new Helix 10 (Console) to setup and network with my 36V/72” ULTERRA IPilot/ Mega (Builtin). Mine work great! I have LS also, with 2 Garmins networked together. I use my Garmin’s for my jigging and seeing fish because the detail is superior on the Garmin. The HB’s are superior for mapping and Side Imaging and Down Imaging. That’s how most people I know use these combinations to get the most out of their graphs.
