    How have you found it in terms of reliability? I went with the Africa Twin over the KTM because I was worried about reliability on tour, heard quite a few horror stories about other KTMs.

    I raced KTM's ( MX) in the 70's. Took me to a #1 spot here in the U.S. AMA district 18. Just bought an RC390. Best handling bike i ever had! Would love a new 1390 Super Duke but think its a bit tall for me! You can buy a $150 K sports car or a $20K Super Duke if you want to go FASTER! My 390 does 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds and is the most fun you can have under 100 mph! Corners like it's on rails and cost $5500! (2023)

    Great review - Really captures the essence of this awesome machine I traded a Gen III SD-R in for the Gen II SD-GT and the GT is just streets ahead on so many levels - While the SD-R III is a great ride, the GT makes it seem like a bit of a one trick pony by comparison - Main advantages: Great adjustable screen, amazing electronic suspension (preload and damping), 23l tank versus only 16l, real luggage capacity, proper pillion set-up, excellent heated grips and perhaps best it has a huge info screen that can be fully customised to read out everything you need continuously - Remarkable how different they are really - Pay the extra and get the GT for sure

I have a dilelma coming : gen3 (it's def coming as they told me at the bike show) and pay a lot or get one of these which will likely be discounted. The Gen 3 suspension changes and radar may just swing it as I'd utilise both. 👍

    @@Irfan87 honestly the taller risers of the base tuono vs lower on factory don't make much of a difference in comfort since you mostly hold on with your legs due to the great shape of the tank. The front end feel is better with the lower risers, I couldn't feel much of a difference in comfort after switching to factory risers.

    I have the gen 2, at almost 10k miles, it feels much smoother on low speeds, also, 60mph on 6th gear is smoother, I believe that the engine is run in nicely now. People judge motorcycles unfairly when they have not been run in, especially with large cc engines, especially a v twin as they will take some time to bed in. I agree, its a hooligan bike and I love it. Torque galore, good mpg, nice riding position. Amazing.

  • @dougiequick1

    @dougiequick1

    10k mile full break in lol It is true though that the larger the engine the more robust all the pieces do become quite difficult for mere mortals to wear out anytime soon (except by lack of maintence type abuse) I remember my 2 stroke big bores would go forever with hardly any wear to piston and rings as opposed to small bores you could wear out pretty fast ...ust for one example

  • @exothermal.sprocket

    @exothermal.sprocket

    Жыл бұрын

    The only "bedding" happening is piston rings mating with cylinder walls, and transmission gears pressing against mating gears. You better hope nothing else is wearing in that engine. About 1200 miles is max for any additional sealing of piston rings. It's all done by then. The most that happens is the first 25 miles. The big sports Vtwins engines need more revs to smooth out, just a fact of physics and science. You shouldn't be running 6th gear until about 75-80 mph because it's geared so tall.

    Have a 2019 GT now. Also have a Ducati Pikes Peak ordered. But that PP delivery keeps getting put off. I am also watching for evidence of a V.3 GT. If the PP is dragged out any longer--I may wait to see a confirmed V.3. We ride 2-up 90% but I want to take the bags off and rip a bit after riding wifey around at sane speeds. It's down to these two. I DO think my present V.2 suspension is jouncy and I can't find the setting that lets both ends of the bike feel like they are working together. Maybe rear shock needs some sort of service. 8000 miles ain't much though.

Both with Akra full systems and both on the street and with launch control. Rosso Corsa 2. More consistent times were 3.0-3.1 sec on Pani and 3.4-3.6 on SDR. On drag strip my best on Pani was 3.00 sec. Both are limited by wheelie. I lean maximum over front end and I also use rear brake to let clutch out until it start to bite. Cheers. Chopsy, watched a few times, really good reviews. This is my favourite contender for my next bike. Please can I ask, what's your own experience with KTM reliability and their service like, on the latter models? I love the idea of this as one bike to do it all . Slightly apprehensive about KTM reputation. (Also trying to discover handlebar width to see if it fits down side of gaf). Suppose I'll have to go and see one. 😊

    I love your perspective on reviews. I am considering adding this or the 22’ H2 SX SE+ you reviewed. I rarely take beyond a long day trip. I live next to world class mountain twisties I day ride. It seems this would be more nimble than the Kawasaki in the mountains. But the Kawi much better for long-slog touring right? What are your thoughts?
