Hello Ateesh. Could you please explain us the reason why the cars now a days are sold first and later crash tested? Why not crash test first, make the necessary changes according to the results and then bringing them into the market?

Hi Ateesh! Very useful piece for all the ones who are considering Carens. Thank you. I own a 6 year old Audi A4 tdi which does a the once in 2 month’s 14 hours drive to Kanyakumari (from Chennai). It’s my wife, 4 year old kid and myself mostly and rarely the grandparents join the trip. My wife loved the 6 seated configuration and we are considering the Carens for it not feeling too bulky for our city use and has a flexible seating especially for our highway use. I’m as a smooth driver who enjoys the tranquility(lower NVH), composed ride and smooth delivery of power. Do you think Carens would suit us for coming form a A4? Thus far it’s evident that we like the following over our Audi: 1. Sense of space 2. More seats when needed 3. Features However we are curious to know if the car would keep us happy throughout the 14 hours drive in terms of comfort and good feel. Also let me know if I must be worried about the reliability of the DCT.

We didn’t have the cars for long enough to do a proper fuel run. We will do so when we get the cars next, for a longer period!

Kia is walking the talk when it comes to being agile. In less than 3 years and with 4 products ranging from 7 lac to 25 lac (ex showroom), they have caught the fancy of the aspiring Indian middle class. With their ears on the ground, they are spot on with the product placement and the feature mix for Carens. By the time Hyundai understands where they went wrong with Alcazar (priced steeply, lack of 1.5 NA & 1.4 Turbo, namesake 3rd row), Carens might just amass 50K bookings easily in next 12 months. If Carens offer a safer and softer ride quality than Seltos and is aggressively priced in a range of 12.5 lac to 18 lac ex showroom, Kia will have a winner.

Kia seltos crash test was disappointing. This same model has got 5 stars in both the US and Australian tests. For such an expensive car they really cheaped out on the construction here. But I guess it says more about the Indian customer than anything else.

The higher end models in my opinion will not sell as much as the lower variants and the engine Trans combo doesn't exite me but as a ertiha/xl6 rival makes a lot of sense

Nice review. The wheelbase is longer than Innova's.I think they will price the top end petrol DCT at least 18 lakhs.

Its a wonderful MUV with passenger centric features placed between ertiga and crysta , If MSIL comes with 6speed auto in their current Muv twins .......carens may struggle to do good numbers .

1.4 turbo petrol doesn't make 172nm of torque. It's much higher

Kia has categorised it as MPV but tum logo ko ye phir v nahi dikh raha wese dikhega v kese Sonet ko SUV kehne wale
