@@rohit_paradkar hi rohit, Diesel AT suv under 15 lakhs. Xuv300 or sonet.?? Sonet - safety & k1 platform is a concern. 300 - poorly specced w6, dated interiors a concern. Whats your recommendation. They say the sonet's suspension is so stiff & never gets settled in speeds & bad roads. 300 has a nice suspension. Can you suggest??

So far how is your experience with Carens? I am confused with petrol 1.5 turbo. Whether it has adequate power to carry 7 people over hill area. Can you guide?

I like everything about Carens ambient lighting all wheel disc brakes Top mounted AC vents with Diffuser paddle shifters for DCT Sunroof 3rd row comfort only thing i personally i dnt like is only The Digital Speedometer

I just can't help it but notice that the details to which Rohit at OD goes is simply class leading....just like the Carens maybe!😉 Keep it up Rohit and OD!👍 Just a small doubt though (have pointed whatever I have wrote above and this sentence previously too), how does Autocar India manage to shoot the best clarity videos? Or they just add some filters to the original colors? (A lot of times it happens that I watch OD Rohit videos and then I go back and watch Autocar videos too just to watch the same vehicle with more clarity) Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm no expert in this video and photo clarity (or whatever it is) stuffs.

Thank you Paavan. While I love the establishment I work with, we are unfortunately restricted by older equipment - which suffices the news reporting, but doesn’t match the results of new age cameras when it comes to shows like OVERDRIVE. Until the network upgrades to better cameras, we would have to carry on with what we have. I hope we make up for the lack of visual crispness with our storytelling 🙏🏼

This is the Best Review, very engaging with details and perfect background sound and voice with perfect pictures and videography, I have booked Luxury Plus Disel Automatic Variant, it’s 22 Lakh 36 thousand in Maharashtra Baramati on the road.

For those planning on 1.4 Turbo Petrol Manual, an eye opener. There is a design flaw where there is pickup issue in first and second gear, specially when going on an incline and slotting from 1st to 2nd. It's VERY UNSAFE to drive on hilly areas. It even struggles on the ramp of car parking area. Second issue is Hill Assist, which do not disengage on pressing accelerator, but takes its own sweet time of 2/3 seconds. Kia is promising an update to fix, but who knows when. Pls do a thorough test drive on inclines, or better yet go for another brand/car.

How about latest petrol 1.5 turbo in hill area?

I did a test drive of the diesel manual. The clutch was light and engine power felt adequate.

Hi Rohit! Very useful piece for all the ones who are considering Carens. Thank you. I own a 6 year old Audi A4 tdi which does a the once in 2 month’s 14 hours drive to Kanyakumari (from Chennai). It’s my wife, 4 year old kid and myself mostly and rarely the grandparents join the trip. My wife loved the 6 seated configuration and we are considering the Carens for it not feeling too bulky for our city use and has a flexible seating especially for our highway use. I’m as a smooth driver who enjoys the tranquility(lower NVH), composed ride and smooth delivery of power. Do you think Carens would suit us for coming form a A4? Thus far it’s evident that we like the following over our Audi: 1. Sense of space 2. More seats when needed 3. Features However we are curious to know if the car would keep us happy throughout the 14 hours drive in terms of comfort and good feel. Also let me know if I must be worried about the reliability of the DCT.

How about 1.5 NA petrol engine? Will it be adequate or under powered?

You could have flipped the 3rd row and shown how much storage space is available with the third row down and also the second row . Instead you said just you could put a roof railing if you have additional luggage 😀. Storage space is also as important for vehicles of this kind maybe another few seconds describing wouldn’t have hurt . Get some suitcases , maybe a cycle , maybe a surf board or maybe even a drumkit to demonstrate the space . . The Innnova third row has the worst space for luggage with thethird row down as they don’t have fold flat seats . So this car actually has better space than the innova and looks smarter . Something that you should highlight I think . This car has used space way better than most cars in this segment . Most MPV and SUV third row space is not great . This is a winner I think 😊. The seltos was a disappointment in terms of boot space . Most sedans had better boot space than the Seltos . Luggage u can carry is as important as people in segments like this .

When both the 2nd and 3rd row folded you can slide in a 650L wardrobe like refrigerator in it.

India is a Tropical country. Only cold countries need Sunroof, not a hot India. People don't even understand the usage of features in vehicles.

Which one should I prefer for better performance in hill area with full house, 1.5 turbo petrol or 1.5 diesel Carens?

Yes it’s a reliable combination. You can go for it, remember it will have lesser fuel economy than the diesel automatic though, so do your calculations before finalising it.

Which is a more reliable engine and transmission , should i go for petrol dct or diesel automatic?

The clutch on the diesel may be harder than petrol. This is from a few who have driven both and felt a noticeable difference. Will drive the diesel in a couple of days and shall update.

Sir, I am sure the owner of Diesel Karens owner faced Diesel Particulate Filter issues in this vehicle since it is BS6. Would you please get the details as to how did the (or any) owner of Carens overcome those DPF problems? Thanks in advance

No these aren’t sponsored. Most carmakers will always give the top end variants for review so that we can evaluate most of the features and specs that are available of the model range. This true not just for Hyundai and Kia but also for Tata, Mahindra and most others. Land Rover is the only one who has mostly provided mid-level bearings for the review but that’s also because the Indian arm doesn’t have the budgets to capitalise fully loaded variants for media test drives.

I thought this will be 5+2 but no it is a proper 7 seater

Why I am unable to feel it as a car. From side angle it feels like a elephant's body is attached with a Ant head. Is this car will be stable above 100 to 120km speed.

Yes, the proportions do feel a bit off, but otherwise its dynamics aren’t worrisome. It feels stable at highway speed with or without a full house too.

Clutch felt like butter smooth in turbo petrol manual....

Every reviewer is driving only smooth highways that to automatic only. Don't want to cast aspersions but it smells some rat since the bad engine feature lies in 1.4 petrol manual on gulli roads and heavy traffic. Btw I did that and found after each bump, car wsn't pickin up even on 2nd gear; I'd to shift to 1st. Executive agreed it's normal in Carens 1.4, no turbo @ lower rpm. Goin to 1st, gives jerk for each bump/sharp turn, feels crazy engine design. Sir, if you're honest and not peped up by Kia motors, do it and include in your review.

That’s true. As I mentioned in my review, larger wheels, fatter tyres and a more imposing grille would have made the aesthetics more appealing. But the larger wheels could have hampered the supple ride that they have managed, the fatter would affect fuel economy and a more imposing grille/face would probably not appeal to the stereotyped MPV buyer who is looking for sober alternatives to aggressive looking SUVs.

Looks great! However not an appealing design!! Doesn't stand out! Kia went with very neutral design with this! Central seats are so tiny even in 6 seater! Should learn from Ertiga, Safari ...King size seats!!! You mentioned to go with carrier due to lack of boot space, i understand that , it's not legal! We need to register that as well it seems, can u please clarify on this doubt or query?? This will help most of ur fans or audience!! 👍 However, I was waiting about the price tags for each version, but i didn't hear in this review ....r u planning to cover it later???🤔 Great review! 👍

Hello Rishabh. Thank you for the feedback. AFAIK (and I may be wrong), roof mounted luggage carriers are “allowed” for private cars, while tourist vehicles and taxis need to get them approved by the RTO. However, an improper installation or an unsafe luggage rack or mounting of the luggage is punishable by the authorities. There are safe luggage rack options too, like the Thule roof box for example and the company officially sells it in India - so I’m sure they wouldn’t go against the law. That said, I also hear that some states like Gujarat and Rajasthan don’t allow roof racks at all, while Karnatak needs RTO approval for roof racks on all kinds of vehicles.

I don't mind watching the video whatever car it may be, if reviewed by Rohit
