2022 Hyundai Kona Electric | Should This Be Your First EV?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This here is my 2020 Kona Electric. That’s right; last spring I leased it for 3 years at a phenomenal rate - the first new car I’ve ever had. And this here is the refreshed 2022 Kona - my tester. So it’s been fun this week comparing and contrasting; seeing if there’s anything I’m missing on my 2-year old model that I’d really want.

    I attended an EV festival last Fall and a number of Kona owners had indicated they had recalls for the batteries along with other issues that required them to leave their cars with Hyundai dealership for weeks to be repair. Beware and stay inform before buying a Kona.

    The front looks very nice in black. The tail end does not seem to match the front styling, however. Not a big deal, but it is a shame. I prefer the style to be consistent so it looks like one car, not two cars glued together.

    i have a 22 model, for the most part i like it..... done 2600 miles so far and not even cost me £50 yet (lots of free public chargers here in scotland) , its smooth comfortable (non leather seats) quiet, responsive.......BUT, build quality only gets a 8/10 as if you put all 4 windows down an inch or 2 to clean the very top edge, you can move them all from side to side, like they aint bolted in good, the brakes squeel for the last mph coming to a stop, the cabin heater is garbage (and you need it here) but the range is close to 300 miles even here (was 250 in dead of winter when i got it) cant charge from home so needed this range and as a 1st full EV i would have to say i would recommend one. i find myself going for a drive just for the hell of it

    @@stevehammes I'm with you. I just cannot stand the Tesla exterior (some other reviewer described it as jelly beans, Lol), and especially the spartan interior with the huge iPad. Most things require it for function, that's a HUGE negative in my book. I prefer physical controls, be it knobs or buttons. I'm deciding between Kona EV or Niro EV. Any thoughts on that? I tested a Kona EV Limited a couple of months back. It's really a fun and sporty little car. If it were a little larger and offered in AWD I would have strongly considered a purchase. I ended up putting a deposit on a VW ID.4 Pro S AWD, and a Hyundai Tucson Limited PHEV AWD as well. Whichever one shows up first is the one I'll purchase. PS: Both deposits are refundable

    I picked up my new Kona in October. The negatives. 1. No space for anyone taller than a child or 5ft 4 if both front seats are in use. Nobody but a small child can sit behind the driver. 2. Only 1 USB port in the front 3. Very small boot. The cable takes up quite a bit if space in the boot. The positives. Everything else. It is nippy and responsive. Fantastic stereo Quiet cabin Travel costs are soooo low compared to petrol Excellent navigation Great heating. Great car for 3 people maximum.

    You are exaggerating. The back seat is tight for tall people, but I literally just watched another video io KZread showing someone 6ft 2 hop in the back seat and fit. So, people much taller than 5 ft 4 can ride in back if the front seat occupants use some common sense and don't put their seats all the way back and allow some leg room for rear passengers. If you have a family of 5 tall and wide people, this is the wrong vehicle, but if you occasionally want to be able to carry 2 adults in back for short trips, it can be done easily.

  • @webcomment8895

    @webcomment8895

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@stevehammes 5ft 4 is not the cutoff though. It's fine that they "don't want to" ride in the back seat and would prefer to ride in a larger vehicle. It's still works for occasional use and they can deal with it. I've seen adults get in the back of Mustangs and this is not comparable to that. If you need to carry tall adults in back regularly (household members commuting together daily etc.), this is not the best choice. However, you can carry average size adults without much issue if you use some common sense of putting the tallest in the front and don't push the front seats back so far that there is no room for legs in the back seat.

    Like many out there I am appalled with the current diesel and gas prices. So after waiting and testing and reading I bought myself this model second hand at a fair price. Me and the wife are loving the hell out of it . So fast, easy and quiet. room is ok because it's not too low like the zoe,id3,tesla 3 and it's not a suv like beast. The range has been enough for 2 weeks of suburban driving. At the weekend it stays parked and charges at slow rates (because i still haven't a charger) and it cost me 7 euros to charge for 400 km, that's 14 times less then my diesel mercedes c220 which was an excellent car until mr. putin did what he pleased to us. at first i fidelled with the infotainment and found it funny to put films and youtubes on the screen but now i just like to hear stopify and quietly drive. Not one ev detractor has yet to say anything bad about the car after going for a spin in sport mode. not one

    You didn't mention the instrument layout is better in the old one....it is clean and simple. The 2022 one with the power/charge meter (which you don't really need) to the right is much less clear. The new front features a sturdier charge port. I didn't have any problems, but the old one feels like some cheap plastic which will fail all too soon. Hopefully it's just the feeling...

This specific charging station was one parking spot with the charger right on the middle, with very short cables.

    I won't say the Tesla looks ugly, but it looks boring and cartoonish like it belongs in the Monopoly board game. This little sneaky EV is nicely equipped, and it's one the few EVs with an open moonroof. Hyundai is moving so fast with its EVs developments, and this in-betweener will soon be forgotten.

    The fact the Kona EV is not RWD is a total wasted opportunity. I know it's based on an ICE vehicle. But, the architecture was meant to serve as an ICE vehicle and an EV from the beginning to begin with. If it was RWD, it probably would be able to tow a little bit, it would be faster, and handle even better.

    Should be able to get awd on demand, so in winter you can be more confident approaching a stop sign or lights. I’m certainly interested tho, having this as a grocery getter & my truck for the real driving makes a lot of sense.
