2022 Honda MSX125 Grom | Road test and review | Carole Nash Insidebikes

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Honda's little Grom is a modern day cult classic.
This learner legal pocket rocket is one of the most classless motorcycles on sale today, proving a real favourite with everyone from novices to experienced riders, and is famous for its ability to be customised - which has created a real 'Grom scene' in recent years.
The 2022 model has been given a revamp. Officially wearing the Grom tag in the UK for the first time, it features new bodywork and a five-speed gearbox among its updates.
We sent Carl Stevens out to try it out and discover if the latest Grom can carry on the legend of its predecessors

One thing that is worth mentioning is how hard it can be to find neutral. I don't know about the 4 speed but the 5 speed gearbox can be a pain

I live 5kms away from my work, a car is no longer practical for me (1990 E30 325i), the engine never gets warmed up properly and due to that, the fuel consumption is much higher than normal. Looking for something small, practical, A to B purely for the city and short distances......would this work for a 10 minute drive to work? or is the distance also too short to get that engine warmed up?

well, it depends on the ambient season, if it's winter, no, but it's not something you should worry about with this bike, it spends the same amount of fuel, in such a short journey it's also invaluable, with the engine hot or cold, I have this same grom with 13500 km, I know what I'm talking about

It's just a sign that tells you slow down a bit lol. Seriously though, when you over rev these little engines they do make that weird sound but I'm sure it's nothing, as long as it's idling properly with no hiccup.

the 2021 grom cuts injection at 8200 rpm, do you take it to 9000? 😂, I don't know what grom you have, mine is perfect after 6000km, but no, it doesn't go above 8200rpm, it's a two-valve engine, it's not made to go above that

I rode a Grom and a Monkey. They were the slowest bikes I have ever ridden! It is the only motorcycle I have ridden where you turn the throttle and NOTHING happens! They remind me of those go carts that you rent and race on the track. They are governed I think for about 10mph and when you push the gas pedal it takes them about 5 minutes to think about moving. IMO, the Grom and Monkey are ok around the neighborhood or on country rural roads, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking them on any highways or major roads where the speed limit is over 40mph. If you tried to merge in front of a car or a truck, you are going to be road kill! Forget highways! Why buy a 9hp motorcycle and soup it up to 15hp when you can just get a 300cc and have 35hp for a little bit more? They are are for pussies and kids that are afraid of a real motorcycle. I had a Honda 300 CBRR that I sold because it was too slow to stay with traffic, and it was over stressed on the highway because you are running near redline all the time. They are unsafe IMO in most situations because you can't avoid accidents because of insufficient acceleration.

I’ve realised the Honda Grom and Monkey are the biking equivalent of the original Mini or Fiat 500. Not fast at all…but then they weren’t built for speed, but damn are they great fun to drive lol
