That 1.5l engine is designed for fuel economy. It is not a good modding platform engine. All the components are weak and lightweight for fuel economy. If you start throwing power at this motor it will have issues at some point. It is the unfortunate truth. It can handle basic bolt ons but tuning it past 20hp the clock starts ticking. The older motors has some heft to the components and could handle the extra hp and torque.

The rods on the 11th gen are actually thicker than those on the 10th gen 1.5. That being said, both engines are still for economy. I'm sticking to bolt on's and possibly a mild Hondata base tune

@@jeepdad1954 it probably will be fine just dont over tune it past 210. Good car either way just wish for the si they made the motor components better for enthusiasts. That rev hang is pretty bad on upshifts too. That should have at least been changed for the si model and type r.

I’m beta testing it for them, it’s not finished for public release yet. Anything over 21psi expect it to slip, I’d be prepared to do it sooner rather than later even at 21psi. I had slip at 23psi that I felt and from the logs there was slip even at 21psi just I didn’t notice it during the datalog

  • @MitchMc91

Absolutely worth it, car gains 40-50wtq down low and throughout the midrange to redline you’re looking at 40-50whp everywhere under the curve! It depends some people have issues, I personally had warranty work done to my 10thgen multiple times when it was tuned, I returned it back to stock and unlocked the unit from the vehicle prior

If you have a catastrophic engine failure, then no, probably not covered under warranty with a tune unless you have a really good relationship with the dealership. Almost all manufacturers have a way of seeing that the ECU has been flashed at one point. It’s a flag counter that can’t be erased to my knowledge at a consumer level. In the VW/Audi world, it’s called the TD1 flag. Mazda has it too. I’m sure Honda does as well. Now if you’re going in to get something non-engine related replaced under warranty, you’re probably fine. And to be honest, let’s say something small goes wrong with the engine like the PCV system or whatever. They may cover that. But if you have the turbo let go or something with the head or block itself? Honda is going to look more deeply into the ECU before they cover it. Back when my 2006 GTI was under warranty and flashed with Stg 2 and a turboback, I had engine stuff covered under warranty, but that was over a decade ago. Manufacturers have really come down on stuff.

@@g60corrado91 I had my head gasket done twice on my 10thgen SI without issues, dealer said they could see the car was flashed as what seemed to be a scare tactic but when I asked for proof they couldn’t provide any and had to proceed with the work. If I had something major happen I’m not bothering with Honda, I can see me doing a built bottom end this time ‘round

@@MitchMc91 haha for sure. The safest bet is if someone wants absolute coverage, don’t tune/modify the car. There’s always more risk when you go down the modding rabbit hole.
