Im sure I wasnt the only one who ended up taking much longer to watch this video as I was constantly pausing during the Technical Changes section to read and geek out on all the technical goodness haha! Love all the detailed information you guys provide on the changes (but maybe slow down the slides?). Seems like the new Si is a solid improvement on the previous one w all the small but substantial as a whole changes to the chassis, engine, drivetain, etc. I can see those not in the know or not looking further past the numbers just seeing its down 5hp and scoffing at the new Si, but its all about the area under the curve and having torque come on earlier and being able to use more of the power up top rather than just a sharp peak, I can see the new Si being noticeably quicker side by side.

The only thing I really really DISLIKE about the new Si is that they lost the adaptive dampers/suspension. I guess in favor of giving another advantage to the Integra, but last gen Si came with adaptive suspension which was Amazing, especially for the price. All in All, it's a trade-off and not a solid upgrade overall imo, at least this one is better looking from the front and side profile, rear end screams Volkswagen tho and pretty much liked the older gen rear end.

I'm not a fan of 10th Si, since I drive the Base LX with 6MT and think it's a better car (Canadian model). However, this 11th Si seems to have potential since it behaves like my K20C2 at higher rpms. Sadly, 11th significant improvements to chassis and suspension isn't enough to overcome 10th lightness (about 2700 with rpf1 rims and no spare). I suspect all talents that secretly tuned 10th base Sedan, is now focused on 11th Si.

Just bought a 22 civic si in the Canadian market and am very happy with it. I traded in my 2020 si to take advantage of the current used market. Although passive the suspension has greater body control and the shifter is far better than the 10th gen. engine tuning is more progressive and pulls hard all the way to cutoff. It feels more powerful which is borne out by the aftermarket dyno runs ie. hondata showing hp above 220.

As a previous 10th Gen Si owner who modified his car to great lengths with better braking, chassis, suspension, drivetrain and power upgrades, I'm happy to see Honda made the new Si that much better so the average enthusiast won't need to go to such great lengths to eliminate "flaws" (i.e. weak clutch, numb steering, tinny exhaust) and only see improvements after quite a long list of modifications. I've sold the Si and now enjoying my 10th Gen Type R, which extra power aside took care of a lot of the Si's flaws, and doesn't need as many modifications to get me feeling excited about the driving experience. However, as the owner of Unity Performance, a shop dedicated to 10th Gen Civic performance, and shortly the 11th Gen I will continue to modify and test my cars extensively to see where I can make improvements without sacrificing the daily driveability of Honda's out-of-the-box product :)

If you look at the Honda Canada site, you see that they choose to set up the Civic features to be based off the Touring (rather than the EX in the USA) and priced accordingly. In Canada, the Si is the most expensive Civic you can buy. When setting pricing there, they also have to factor in provincial taxes, which I think run in the 13-15 percent range. So it's a bit of apples to oranges situation. Personally I'd love it if the Si was based off the touring here in the USA, but . . .

I find it amazing that you think this new one is substantially better than the old. I owned a 19 Si and that thing did not wallow about and was extremely rigid and planted in sport mode, yet felt like a WRX in normal mode. I'm so absolutely shocked by your take that I looked up the measured performance to see this "50%" better you quoted. The X outperformed the new 11th gen in average g force on the skidpad, a had a faster figure eight, better braking, faster quarter mile time, and was quicker to 60 than the new Xi Si. . For me, the X was an excellent car. Great gas mileage, fairly comfortable, and wasn't expensive. In fact, I got more for trading it in 2 years later than I did buying it. Personally, I think the X's front end and gauges are way better while the dash and rear end of the Xi look way better. Though, those red seats are horrific. Sure does look like the new Si, which is lighter than the old, has lost 5hp considering it's slower. . It's kind of funny how I went from a car I drove 80-85mph everywhere to a truck that I'm happy cruising at 65-75mph in.

@@gwot These new regulations and restrictions for safety need to be lessened for certain designations of vehicles. The rich get whatever they want, whenever they want for "display purposes," so us peasants should be able to at least buy kei cars and such.

@@parissmith5727 so what you're saying is... the safety of a car corelates to the price of the vehicle? so you're only as safe as you can afford? Imagine the backlash a manufacturer gets when the cheaper trim is less structurally safe. I guess that does happen in the real world though... some models you can add safety packages for auto braking and more airbags. If you want a kei Honda, get a fit instead of a civic?

@@gwot No, what I'm saying is the upper crust can avoid restrictions and regulations with expensive exemptions. Actual museums do too, granted, but the elite skirt regulations just because. What I personally want is a separate vehicle designation for the makes and models that we don't get in the USA, day one. So no more 25 year rule (the rich don't have to wait), but I'm content falling under a different tax bracket for a "less safe" vehicle. The entire regulatory structure doesn't make any sense to begin with; Smart cars are allowed for "reasons" but we can't have the S660, Jimny, or Suzuki Swift?

About two weeks ago we were staying at the Westlake Village Inn, in Westlake Village, CA, and about 20 or 30 of these were parked at the hotel. Cool Civics, and knew that something like this was probably going on…must have been fun.

I've owned a 1984 CRX, 1986 Civic SI, 1989 Civic SI and a 1992 Civic SI. That's when they cost about $13,000. They were a blast to drive. Which I had kept the 1992 Civic SI.

Lovely car, I'm still sad about the electronic control for the hand brake though :( I'd much rather have a regular handle.

The electronic parking brake adds unnecessary complication while eliminating the ability to modulate braking effort to the in-disc drums. In short, it's bad engineering. But it's trendy.

Today America is lucky they have the si while in Japan only have the hatchback. Here in the Philippines our top spec civic has the si black rims already which is cool. I enjoy watching the video about the si such a quality review.

Great video. I own a tuned 10th Gen. Would you consider this version evolutional and worthy of an upgrade? Saw this at horrendous dealership that marked this up to $38K. Im considering waiting for the Integra or a refreshed version with heated seats.

Not worth it to upgrade. 11th gen has some missing features, some additional features. It's a wash. And it's slower slightly. The price increase is not worth it

Sad about no heated seats. Seeing as it's the same engine as the previous gen, as well as a single mass flywheel, ktuner or Hondata would do wonders to this car. Have a 2017 10th gen and being able to get 260 lb ft and turning off rev hang transformed the car.

my 2020 si still hangs revs even with the ktuner disabling it, its better than stock though. Wonder if the 11th gen flywheel will bolt up.
