It’s why I’m so confused why there’s so much backlash online about the way this thing looks, from a lot of Honda people. They’re always lamenting not having the simple back- to-basics approach from the cars in the 90s, and this thing, even visually, harkens back to those days. And they all hate it. It’s so dumb.

I really liked the interior review. You make a convincing case for WHY piano black is bad for commonly touched surfaces, why good black levels are important on all digital clusters, and why good matte physical controls matter. You also explain how the layout can be clean while still retaining the important ergonomics from physical controls. I'm really glad Honda has continued in this direction in a time when a lot of new cars seem designed for flashiness without consideration for practicality. I just wish they offered more than an all-black interior. This car's interior design begs for it.

It blows my mind how much space this has in the hatch. I’ve seen some people bellyaching about the price of this thing compared to like an accord, but this is way more practical than a accord? As long as you’re OK with a slightly smaller interior space. This has more cargo capacity than something like a Subaru crosstrek , and drives infinitely better. There’s so much space in the back of this thing that you could make a case for getting this over something like a CX-5 which doesn’t really have that much more appreciable cargo room or interior space. Unless you just really wanna be up high, there’s no reason to choose a cuv. Honda nailed it.

Sorry, but there's no way I'd go from a GTI to this. . This Civic is nice enough as an entry level DD, but there's no real excitement in the performance, and the look is ...meh. Maybe the SI will put it over the top, but honestly, I'm not interested in a 6MT at this point in my life, and there's no CVT in my future. If they offered an actual auto box like the Accord, or some kind of DSG, I might change my mind. I'll give VW the chance to take care of the worst issues on the interior in the mid cycle refresh....which I'm sure they'll do. In spite of the funky dash, the Mk 8 drives brilliantly as seen is SG's previous video. Meanwhile, my '16 Mk 7 is serving me just fine.

And from a numbers standpoint, yeah, even the 6MT Sport Touring HB has nothing on the GTI/R. That’s more in the Si/CTR variants. Electric generators, cars, motorcycles, power tools, marine, even airplanes.

@@edgaryzen4925 I’m a big fan of Toyota too. However, Toyota doesn’t quite take as many risks (innovate) as Honda. And they are not in so many industries. The biggest risk Toyota has ever taken was the Prius. Other than that… nothing much really. I mean, the engine and transmission in the 4Runner (one of my favorite vehicles btw) has been around for about 2 decades now. I still love them what they are: reliable and fairly simple systems, but as an engineer I would like to see more innovation out of Toyota. Let’s hope they do.

Honestly? With the exception of the straightahead speed that the 3 offers, in that one specific trim level, I’m not seeing anything that the 3 is dynamically capable of that outweighs how much better the civic is at utility. like yes I do dig the styling. But the styling isn’t so nice that it completely counteracts how good the interior of the civic is space wise. Or how the hatchback in the civic is actually useful. Or the fact that the civic has supreme ride handling balance. If you need I will drive and you need it in a car that sacrifices utility for the sake of, I can see somebody opting for the 3.

I wish I was in the market for a car because I would definitely take a look at this. Reminds me so much of my old 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT that also had the unconventional fastback/sportback hatch design which I think has better aesthetics than the typical hatchback. Plus I like how it has more glass for visibility; I'm finding modern cars are sacrificing visibility for 'cooler' styling. And yes, being in my 40s, I hated the over-styling of the previous gen and wouldn't even consider it as an option, but this, while it doesn't really have a 'wow' factor, it's more digestible than some Anime-type design. I see good things here. Nice work as always, gents!

Love the manual option ( that’s the way I’d personally go ) I’m curious about the engine options though , the 2.0 @ 158 hp vs the 1.5 turbo charged @ 180 hp I think there’s better longevity and fuel economy with the 2.0 ? Perhaps less overall maintenance and ownership costs ( including initial purchase price ) I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ but I’d like to see your driving review final thoughts on the 2.0 manual hatchback .

Excellent review. I don't need to hear how the exhaust sounds when revving the crap out of a car. Your reviews are concise and cover what matters. Thanks guys.

@@polishblak That's great. That 1.5T has always made me hesitate a little, so I was just curious.

The interior of this car is so far ahead of the competition. The gloss textured material looks high end, but doesn't suffer from fingerprints and scratches like the gloss black everyone else is obsessing with. This interior is going to age so much better than a lot of so-called luxury interiors with their gloss black everywhere and clunky touchscreens for climate control.

I always gripe on Honda’s. This is the first one I would buy, just amazing looking. In and out

I would consider this if it had an AWD option. This is a very nice put together car and looks practical too as family car. I actually like the styling better than the Mazda 3's.

What a great video! I absolutely love the attention to detail in the vehicle cabin. Especially the wide range of light dimming capacity in the dashboard cluster. I can now play my Nintendo Switch in the car without having super bright lights distracting me, let alone my wife and her boyfriend in the back seat! #MetroidDread
