Very good review…..starting to sway towards this bike….I am returning to bikes after 41 years….19 years old, 4 bikes….one drunk driver….stopped it all in 1981…..so…now at 60 I want to return, I will retrain and listen and learn, I hold a full licence….live in Jersey, small roads, lower speeds…but lots of cars….so I need to get this right…or close to….do think this bike ticks the boxes…great video, thanks for sharing

An excellent real world bike. I had a 2017/18 model, and after selling it to a friend after a year or so I decided to buy the new 2022 model in the black/red/white colour scheme. I think the improvements are definitely worthwhile compared to the older model. Looks, comfort, easy to ride, reliability and economy, it has everything going for it. Perfect first ‘big’ bike for newcomers, and an ideal choice too for people who want to downsize (I’ve just sold my Tiger 800). I actually spent a couple of weeks riding a CB500X in Thailand, and a week on one on the island of Gran Canaria...

I agree Steve, it has everything going for it in reality! It is a brilliant option for new riders or those downsizing like you say. Good to know the changes for 2022 versus the older bikes are definitely noticeable and an improvement. Riding one in Thailand and Gran Canaria? Sounds like bliss!

I’ve owned a new Pearl green CB500X from April and I agree with the observations you have made! I purchased a fender extender 2022 version from Pyramid and it’s cut way down on the dirt thrown up from front wheel! I’ve owned and ride bikes for Over 47 years and it’s the easiest lightweight I’ve ever ridden and returning 84 mpg ( only 200 miles so still not going above 5500 revs) a dream to ride and compared to my other bikes a Honda CB1100EX and BMW R 1100s a bike I’d ride every day and over all roads and conditions!

I'm glad you agree with my findings and glad you got the fender extender! It was crazy how much dirt there was on the radiator from how little riding I did. Great to know the CB500x has a place in and amongst slightly fancier machinery! The MPG and ease of use probably is part of the reason I'd guess!

Thanks very much mate. Your's is one of a number of clips I have looked at for this Bike. They all agree with you that it's a worthwhile purchase, so that's me in. I'll be using mine to do long distances in Australia. (I live here). So the only thing that bothers me, is that short range tank. You mentioned it is 250 mile range. That's 400 km's. That may be a little too short for where I need to travel between petrol stops. But I'm sure I'll figure it out somehow. Thanks heaps :)

Thanks for the kind words Mike, I hope you enjoy your bike once it arrives! I expect an absolute minimum of 250 miles and more like 270-300 miles (430-480km's) as the bike is really efficient! Worst case get yourself a 5l can of fuel and strap it to the back! That should see you right. Wishing you many happy km's!

After riding the older version of this bike around the mountains of Madeira I have a newly found appreciation of this bike. A friend of mine rode a slightly modified 500X around the world. Its a durable and reliable machine. Like the sensible upgrades on the forks and twin discs are are definitely an improvement. Sorry but the colour is not for me.

I agree I have a new appreciation of the bike too! I really didn't expect if would be as good as it is in honesty but it surprised me. The colour isn't for everyone but I think it's brilliant and makes it feel a bit of an adventure bike. But maybe that's the 5 year old in me that still likes some things to resemble "army" colours 😂

You could do a review of classic English countryside for the Tourist Board. Nice roads for such a machine.

should have a tube from seat to front to run aux wiring for lights/switch up front, to not deal with that side panel, snap,push arrangement.

Nice review, new rider here and got mine a few days ago. It’s a 22 with 4 miles on it. Where ya get that khaki bike outfit it’s nice. Thnx

So it has inferior front forks, extra braking it doesn’t need and more unstrung weight. Cosmetic changes at best.

Whats your view on using this bike for long term touring and riding across Europe or the world

I think long term touring is easy for this bike, particularly in Europe. There are lots of examples of the CB500 of the modern era with 60-90,000 miles on the. The world gets a trickier proposition with spares supply but nothing is impossible

Those big buttons are great for us half-blind pensioners as well.

What’s up with all the hedges? The problem with all those videos from brittain is that there are usually nothing to see along the road and it’s always wet on the road.

That's just part and parcel of UK countryside. Most edge's to roads here have hedges, trees or fences. It's not the same everywhere and plenty of places are without it. I can assure you there is plenty to see in the UK while riding, come for a visit and I'll show you 😊 there's not much we can do about the weather though 😂

I did like the nc500 route that mcn used for their test of the cb500 range. Beautiful roads. If someone lived in that region they could make absolutely great motorcycling content with less effort than usual and it would help to really set their channel apart from others. However i enjoyed your take on the cb500x. I tried it a couple of weeks ago and it would be a great replacement of my tiger 1200 now when i’m looking to downgrade. My only gripe is that a new cb500x costs the same as a used ktm 790 adventure here in sweden.

@@SvanbergSimon Yep it's gorgeous up there.. sadly the weather up in the far North West of Scotland (and much of Scotland in general) means making motorcycle content there regularly wouldn't be easy and certainly not possible all year round. Thanks and I am glad you enjoyed it. The CB500x is a very different bike to the KTM 790 and I guess it depends ultimately what you want to do with your new bike and which suits your needs best?

Would the height be good for a 6.1 male?

shifting early and every 10km is a bit different; no lo end torque when i go around corners in 3rd gear.

How it’s on freeway going 65 to 75mph does it ride well? Will you call this bike good to handle freeway well… Someone says when you get 500 as your first bike, later you gonna want to upgrade and on and one. And someone from motorcycle shop showed me few motorcycles for freeway, one of them was the Honda African twin I think it’s 1200 tall and heavy bike.

It rides OK between 60-80mph but at a constant rpm around 70-80mph it does have quite a few vibrations. The trouble with asking for 100 opinions is you will get 100 different answers... And who is to say which one is right? The 500 is a very capable bike and maybe you will want more in just 6 months time... But isn't it better to try and to find that out than to not make the decision? The Africa Twin is a very different bike to this and absolutely would cope better on a freeway... But it's also a lot more expensive, a lot more power, a lot heavier etc

cheaper parts; is less weight. more plastic. the more weight the better; then it will match my waist line ! but need pegs lowered 2" and seats raised 2" for more leg room ????

Man riding bike this fast at 7:00 someone could come out of his driveway and you will hit him, plus the ground is wet.

That was approximately 30mph and the view I had was better than is displayed on the camera so I could see clearly if anyone was coming from their drives. I appreciate it doesn't look like that on camera though

I was chatting to a salesman in a dealership a couple of months ago and he did say the profit margins for them on the sale of a new bike can be as low as a couple of hundred pounds and it's all the accessories that they actually begin to make money on. Would make sense though
