I have a GSA which I ride in town a fair bit but I find it a handful. Like you I’m no giant but I can manage the GSA from a seat height perspective. I’m swapping for an AT for the DCT and reduced bulk. Ok, and my lack of faith in BMW build quality and service.

Bought this exact bike. Can’t wait to ride. Last bike was 2012 Goldwing spec 3.

I've fallen in love with my 2020 ATASes. It's incredibly comfortable for multi week tours or just zipping downtown. We did about 7000km tour across BC offroad, hiways, +46'C, skirting and basically through forest fires last year. Not on purpose. Sunshine coast, Van Island , Okanogan and back North. We camped off of them also. Sweet! The DCT in auto, can still be over ridden with manual toggles whenever you wish. The suspension can be toggled while driving. I do it for gravel or off road and back to pavement. If you're unsure how effective this suspension is, leave it in offroad and go for a hiways zip. You'll think the shock is blown. It's that different. I love it for the ability to be compliant and responsive in so many terrains. So easy. DCT rocks and so easy, once you learn it's advantages. 17000km and big trips planned for this summer. Just educate yourself of the fuel tank. Not sure if they are fixed.

I have a 2020 ATAS ES DCT. Here in Canada (I'm in Calgary) there was a factory recall on the issue of flaking in the tank which caused the fuel filter to clog. Brought my bike into dealer last year in the spring and they did the fix. Had the bike back same day and no issue through that riding season. I agree with your comments. I am on the FTR (Forestry Trunk Roads) through the mountains quite a bit and simply switch to gravel mode on the fly when I leave the tarmac and bike is very stable in even very deep gravel. I generally keep it to 80 - 90 km per hour (80 is the speed limit) and running on Dunlop Trail Max Mission Adventure tires and they have been ideal for the type of riding I do.

@@7M43XT Nice bike hey Ed :-) I can't believe how enjoyable they are to ride. The suspension is pure gold! If you ever have fuel filter issues again, look at the Guglatech Mazinga kit from Italy. If you KZread it, it'll all make sense very quickly. My stock filter at about 10000 km was horrendous. I feel I'm safe from walking now, lol. I'll have to look at the Dunlop's, I'm not familiar with them. We've been riding Mitas E07 and having great luck, with about 8-9000 km wear life. Have a wonderful summer Ed. Looks like covid might be behind us, and happier adventures ahead of us :-)

I love how the DCT and that Torque rich motor works together to just chug along. Dont get why people rev up their bikes like a chainsaw. Perfect for me

I absolutely love my AT AS ES so much that I've just sold my KTM SDr because I hardly ride it since getting the Honda from new a year ago. I've done 8000 miles mostly on Welsh A and B roads, a lot of 2 up and a lot o pf blasts with mates. In never fails to please. It's a real shame the majority of vloggers here flock to the dct, ah well ,still a top review and great to watch, cheers.

I have felt inspired to visit Oakham Treasures for a while now because of your vlogs, so I went there today. Wow.... what a place! You probably have to be old to appreciate it but you should take Tim there to look at the bikes on display (BSA, Triumph, Douglas, Norton etc so that he can understand why there is a facility for gear changing on both boots in a pair (not just for symmetry) . Thanks for a good day out that even the Mrs. enjoyed!

At the risk of repeating myself I do enjoy your vlogs! It seems to me never having ridden an Africa Twin that you really do need to ride this bike to appreciate it. It’s not a bike to be weighed up purely on facts and figures.

So true! Took me 3-5000km to get a handle on all the tech. DCT is very abnormal to start, but I'm sold now! Won't go back on a bike like this. We do dirt, gravel hiways in Rockies, and all over BC. ES rocks, would buy again! We camp, tour for weeks, day ride and zip down on our AT's. Fun, reliable steed :-) I agree with you. You need some saddle time to really understand this bike :-)

I test rode 6 ADV bikes, all were great in their own rgt! I instantly fell in love with one......AT dct base model! I've always had sports bikes. Coming of age, 48, I wanted an upright riding position! The base model is so flickable in the twisty stuff! Collecting a 2021 end of June! Ex main dealer demo, 3016 miles all the options! Red/black! Most expensive thing I've bought, but can't wait!

Once again familiar roads. I have cycled many times up each for those hills. As I said in the review comments, despite being over 6' tall I really find the AT a little on the intimidating side, entirely due to height as both my Laverda and my Buell were heavier bikes. I guess you just get used to it after a while.

I agree. It just becomes natural. I've always ridden tall dirt bikes, but the adventure sports is a wider more pronounced bike as well. I've been on multiple 2-3 week trips, and think that just enforces comfort with the bike. Best of luck on your AT, have a wonderful riding season and cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Interesting, I am 5 11 and fell that the seat could be a little higher up to have more leg room. The only thing that was a bit intimidating at first was the width of the tank, it feels massive when riding

The full spec NT1100 is £15k and decidedly “low rent” on much of it .

So directly under the screen is another small LCD display that shows you the speedometer and current gear? Isn't that redundant and not necessary?

Crazy that Honda has not put a faster chip in it, Can not cost a fortune! People are not use to lcd/led screens being slow to start up these days, I do like that it has a simpler screen underneath the big one, should the big one fail!

Would you pick the ATAS over the r1250gs te as this is my dilemma 🤷🤷🏍🏍

GS1250 is anyday better bike but it comes with BMW cost. its too expensive to maintain compared to Africa Twin

That fuel range sounds dreadful. It should be good for over 300 miles. Ok, depends how you ride it but one guy in a dealer who has his as his every day commuter has managed 70 mpg and backed up by another vlogger.

I'm feeling a bit stubborn about the lack of a clutch. Am I just being old and grumpy? I am the same way with my Jeeps. Whenever I am offroad in an automatic, I end up very frustrated. All my Jeeps I have bought were standard transmission. Yes, there are many arguments for automatics... but I am not racing... I am playing. When I play I like to be in control of everything, just ask my wife 😳. I am considering an Africa... but I dont think I can get over my desire to hammer on the gears myself. What do you guys think?

DCT is optional. Get the manual version if you are not into DCT. I fell for the DCT on the test ride and ordered a Africa Twin AS ES DCT MY22.

I had one. Plenty fun. Can ride in full manual if you feel like it. Can also have foot change if you don't like the paddles. But for me I prefer cvt on scoots. I.m lucky as I can pick and choose .
