Coming from a 2006 Escape, I initially preferred the boxier look of the Bronco Sport, but the smooth lines have grown on me. Fuel economy and AWD were most important to me, so I picked up a regular hybrid SEL AWD last month. Very happy with the efficiency and quietness sofar, easily averaging 44+ MPG.

Back in December 2019, for a Xmas gift to myself, I traded in my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid for the 2020 SE Sport Hybrid. I liked the 2006 boxy design, as it accommodated two full size bicycles better. But, overall my wife and I really love the newer model, particularly her. She would not drive the 2006 unless she had to. In retrospect, I’m glad I gpt the 2020 when I did, as the pandemic hot three months later.

Seeing that you are 'oh so close' to hitting 100K subscribers, let me be the first to congratulate you, as I am sure it will happen in the next few days (hours?)! I always wondered about your teaser of reviewing a "windowless white van". I mean, big deal, right? Then I got to thinking that this must be a very special windowless white van, perhaps something that hasn't quite gone on sale yet. Maybe it's a Canoo, or another company's electric van? Now I am excited to see what it will be! 😃

If you look at sales numbers, the new design doesn't appeal to as many people as the old one. Sales have been falling since the new style came out. But a refresh is planned for 2023 which looks like a blend of the old and new styles.

Glad this got a FAMILY FRIENDLY review! Although, I think this is a compromise car and it should be compared to a VOLVO XC60 and RAV4 PRIME. So, in the realm of being able to hold the engine in all ELECTRIC and essentially run this car as an FULL TIME EV. This replaced a 2013 CX5 with 200k miles. (we tried to wait for Mazda to come out with a viable RAV4 prime type option). The car sits much higher than the CX5 which is good and bad. View is nice, it def feels top heavy to the CX5 which is much more tossable and eager to dive into corners. Over time its not as big a deal. We try to drive it as an EV only in most scenarios. I think this does not have as much luxury and comfort of the VOLVO or the PURE speed (0-60 5.7 secs) of the RAV4 PRIME. But could be a great transition car until your next inevitable FULL ON EV purchase in 4-6 yrs. With its forward thinking tech, it should return decent residual value with its added $6800 federal credit that will be going away soon? Other cars we considered in order of preference. RAV4 PRIME, VOLVO XC60, BRONCO SPORT(? No Plugin??) MAZDA CX5 and MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV.

If someone tried to make an ugly Mazda CX-5 it would look pretty much like this. Also…the upgraded Turbo option is a 2.0L not a 2.5L.

I always enjoy watching you guys' videos for many years, with real practical responses from mom, dad, and kid's perspective. This generation Escape, also has that "meh" emotional factor, unless the previous generation (2017 MY) that we loved enough to purchase outright. The thing that bothers me about this generation of Escape is the inboard armrest position, as also pointed out in this video. It is actually lower than the outboard armrest on the door. For the 2017 model year, Escape's inboard armrest was higher than outboard armrest, interestingly. C'mon, Ford, why is it so hard to make the arm rest the same height like other car makers do? For vehicles with armrest that's attached to the driver's seat that can move up/down, it is forgivable if the left/right armrest are at different height at the extreme seat height setting. But for fixed center console armrest? Ford must not make equal height armrest a priority. Please take note, Ford.

I'd like to replace my current Ford with another Ford... hopefully the next-gen Escape's frontend will be more attractive, as I prefer some of their previous designs better. I also like Toyota reliability but I also realize it's difficult for Toyota to design an SUV frontend that doesn't resemble a Star Wars storm trooper helmet. :-)

Hey Micah, nice video. Question: I noticed it wasn’t mentioned so it probably wasn’t any noticeable to you/your family, but at my job we get Escapes coming in every once in a while and I’ve noticed that the seats have this weird “bolstering” on the rear part of the seat bottom, and that part is so stiffly padded that it’s EXTREMELY uncomfortable for me no matter how I try to sit in the seat. Since they’re all rentals tho, we only get mid level trims and I haven’t sat in a titanium so maybe that issue is fixed in the higher trims

The turbo is a 2.0 not a 2.5! Same one in the Bronco sport, Maverick and Edge. The 2023 Escape is getting a refresh thank gosh, this one is so outdated looking.

We have the previous generation Escape, and one of the few cons that I have is the visibility close to the A pillars, it kinda forces you to move around a little bit. Also, not sure if this version does it, but the one we have has a sliding center armrest.
