dude congrats :) what a beautiful accomplishment you can be immensely proud of yourself. you worked hard for it. keep us in the loop on youre journey in Chicago.
UCSD's freshman acceptance rate this year was actually 23.7% so it was more competitive than previous years, but you did amazing, congrats on all your acceptances !!
Best College Decision Reaction video of 2022! (The only thing that could have been better would be if you weren't wearing a mask when you got your UChicago results, but the scene of you losing it on the stairs helped make up for that.) It's easy to get jaded about the college application process, and then a video like yours surfaces where everything works out perfectly. Chicago and Berkeley actually read your application and recognized you for the true diamond in the rough that you are. I was a little concerned when you were wearing a blue sweatshirt for the announcement of your final decision, but not to worry! Either Berkeley or Chicago would be a great opportunity for you, but I think Chicago is the right fit. I look forward to watching videos of your college experience.

Univ of Chicago is amazing and wonderful. And rest assured, as many of the schools where you applied, it offers among the best education opportunities in the world. Chicago is also a fantastic place to be for four years.

Pretty good results and I hope that with the benefit of time passing you also feel good about them. As I watch these videos, I really feel for today's applicants. Even though you know that admit rates at the most prestigious schools are 3-5%, I can see the pain of the rejection. I have the impression that something is seriously wrong with the way that the admissions process operates at places like Harvard and Stanford. The vast majority of applicants have almost no chance of admission, as evidenced by the all too common Ivy Day wipeout. These schools should be honest about what they actually want and why. They are wasting an enormous amount of money and time creating nothing but work for themselves and pain for the applicants. This "we have a secret process, it's not just a luck shot, and maybe you can get through" stuff needs to end. I think everyone suspects the truth, which is that for most applicants it is about luck. A school like Harvard accepts about 4 out of 100 applicants. Lets say that for every 100 applicants, 19 are not qualified and 1 is an extreme outlier (famous actress, recruited athlete, invented a widely used medical device, son of an alumnus who donated $50 million, you get the idea). So that leaves 80 roughly equal candidates for 3 spots. You just cannot convince me that the application process is so precise that they pick the "right" 3 of out 80. Almost any 3 they pick with be just as "right" as any other 3. It's not the "best fit," but the "most lucky."

Couldn’t agree more! :)
@Zappappappappa
Жыл бұрын
Not only that but another major factor is the adoption of extremely regressive baselines for admission for different demographics of people. Ivy League schools with Harvard being the most notable and extreme of them essentially punishing the hardest working applicants under the guise of "inclusiveness." Not trying to get political or anything it is just a fact with multiple pending legal cases about the situation.
@AaronZhang1202

@@Zappappappappa you said it perfectly. The political climate is absolutely terrible for college admissions right now, especially top end students.

@@rickywaite Wow. That’s really good to hear since it’s been stressing me out. I heard that EA’s who don’t submit the portfolio may create the impression that they wouldn’t attend if accepted (otherwise they’d create the video) and have a higher chance of getting deferred and accepted later if they choose to continue ED2.

@@rickywaite I hope this doesn’t come off as an aggressive question, since you clearly got into many good schools besides UChicago, but I was also wondering if you have any legacy affiliation there.

@@leopardduck4490 neither one of my parents graduated from college, so I’m actually a first generation college student! So no alumni connections lol. But I wouldn’t stress too much about the portfolio. If you’re a competitive applicant and meet the criteria of their institution, they won’t reject you simply because you didn’t submit a video portfolio. You really shouldn’t worry too much about it :)

I enjoy these videos, but it would be nice to provide a little background info going into your reactions (e.g., test scores, GPA, and #of APs). Are you able to get financial aid living in a house valued at over 2,000,000?

Like I mentioned in the video, I’m planning on posting a thorough stats/resume video. Just giving the hard numbers (test scores, GPA, etc.) really isn’t beneficial because all competitive applicants practically have the same numbers. Like I said, I have a TikTok posted with my general stats, so you can check that out if you’re interested. Also not sure where you got that other information from lol.

@@rickywaite I know that it sounds bad the way he phrase it but why did you bother applying to CSUs when you have ivy/high UC level stats?
@rickywaite
Жыл бұрын
@@Bruin11 I really had no perception of how I would fair in college admissions so I made sure to apply to as many schools that I thought I’d at least have a good chance at getting admitted to in the high likelihood that I would not gain admission to the highly selective schools.
@Bruin11
Жыл бұрын
@@rickywaite that’s fair, totally understandable to have backups just in case! I remember I was in similar shoes and ended up just applying to all the UCs, I remember we had a guaranteed UC spot in a random UC (UCI was for my year) if you are top 5% in your graduating class or something like that. I ended up getting into all but SD and had a hard decision between Berkeley and LA, ended up at UCLA and love it! Hope Chicago is everything and more than you wished for, enjoy the best 4 years of early adulthood!
Why apply to schools you knew you wouldn’t attend? Why waste the application fee and cause someone else to be waitlisted for a spot you knew you wouldn’t accept? To make these videos? To massage your ego? Honest question.
@rickywaite
5 ай бұрын
Because you can never know if you are going to get into a college. I had no serious guidance throughout the process from people who had gone to prestigious schools, so I felt it was necessary to have sufficient backup schools. Everyone who I saw was overly confident ended up not getting into any schools, you have to be smart about it.
Don't give out your stats. It's just going to be enabling these kids to compare themselves to other people.
