Owned a 2021 Z-71 Tahoe fully optioned and loved everything about it. Just ordered a 2023 Z-71 fully optioned with the 6.2 V-8. Yes, the 2024 will have the refreshed interior (13” display), but price point at the moment is perfect for me. A great and really under appreciated SUV. The AT-4 and Denali Yukon from GMC are insanely priced and they are certainly proud of their product, but again, the Tahoe Z-71 provides great aggressive looks at a great value. IMO.

Did a long trip with some light off-roading in a rental XL Yukon recently. Rides and drives really well for how massive it is. The independent rear suspension is big upgrade. Well done GM.

You pull for drive and reverse because that is a safety, it stops from someone accidentally pushing them or hitting the dash and pushing them and engaging it. That way you have to pull the gears that actually move the car, you can't do that by accident

2021 Suburban Z71 owner here. We traded in a 2020 suburban and the ride is so much better on the 21 due to the independent rear suspension. Best riding vehicle I have ever rode in. Took a vacation with 6 people very comfortably as all the luggage fits in with the 3rd row up. The Auto 4x4 saved my wife during a freak winter storm this winter and people were stranded left and right. Even people with Awd cars/crossovers that sat low due to snow high centering vehicles. It benefited me off road when I go to the fireworks show on the lake and can pull right up to the lake for a good view or go on a gravel/dirt park road where I really dont need the 4X4 but it just feels so right and natural and makes me feel like im really an off road outdoors enthusiast but at then end of the day I can run back to town and eat at a 5 star restaurant then go back to the resort or house and relax in the hot tub with the wifey and sip on some wine . This is a realistic review of your average suburban/tahoe z71 owner. Cheers 🥂

13:30 The Z71 is the off-road trim, the improved approach angle from the different bumper likely means no adaptive cruise radar mounting location. Adaptive cruise is available on other trims but not the Z71. That front end is also why there's no 3.0 Duramax option on the Z71 but it's available on every other trim. Z71 is the Chevy version of the Yukon AT4.

@DieselDrax Would you think the Ls/Lt trim would offer a smoother ride on nice and rough city and highway roads than the Z71? I know the Z71 has upgraded suspension but Idk if it's stiffer and the Ls and Lt have smaller wheels which I would believe absorb some of that ridgidness.

Great video and fair assessment. I picked up a 2022 Z71 with the 5.3 engine. Fewer bells and whistles. No rear entertainment system and no adjustable ride height. I don’t do any off roading and mostly bought it for the aggressive badass look. After 2 months and 4K miles (can’t stop driving it) I still absolutely love it. Had three Jeep Grand Cherokees and considered the Wagoneer before settling on Tahoe as my first ever brand new car. It’s a joy to drive.

I'm glad to see such a positive review, we just picked up a 2022 Z71 without the adjustable ride height or rear seat entertainment system and I'm enjoying it. I grew up in the Mojave Desert crawling trails and getting lost in the local mountains in trucks half this size and I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised at how well it did the first time I took it out. I wish it had come equipped with the adjustable ride height for that extra clearance, but overall I'm happy with the truck.

The adaptive cruise on my father's 2020 GMC Yukon is a joke. It will slam on the brakes around corners if there is a slower vehicle in the lane next to you. It is also not smooth and awkwardly follows the vehicle ahead of you on straight roads. I am not a fan at all. So, no adaptive cruise- no problem. Nice to see a vehicle with real off-road capability come through and show the difference between a Subaru and a truck.

I was in center console shifter vehicle where i reached down to passenger floor to get something whiled in N (neutral) and at same time i accidentally hit shifter into D and bumped gas pedal, just very weird 2 accidents at same time... the shifter should have extra mechanical button to push while moving to D or R like some other manufactures do

Great review of such a big vehicle, Ryan! I do am curious about the independent rear suspension. By designing these SUVs to be jack of all trades (roomy 3rd row seat, smooth ride, etc.), the IRS lower lateral arms have to be designed lower. This is very evident from the back view compared to a live axle. Has anyone have problems with IRS lower arm clearance when taking such SUV offroad or on trails?

I believe the center console slides back and there is secure storage underneath. Also, when the console is open, it provides cup holders for the second row. (Edit) Oh, also if you are cabled into the integrated USB port, those are connected to the infotainment system so it assumes you want wired Car Play or Android Auto.

Would you think the Ls/Lt trim would offer a smoother ride on nice and rough city and highway roads than the Z71? I know the Z71 has upgraded suspension but Idk if it's stiffer and the Ls and Lt have smaller wheels which I would believe absorb some of that ridgidness.

Acceleration is also slowed by GMs tuning overcompensating for sudden throttle inputs to electronically slow the throttle valve opening. Even as soon as my 09 Silverado they've had this, I took it to the dealer because I thought there was something going wrong with it (under warranty). Ended up getting a tuner to remove it and boy did that wake the truck up!

Yeah, I have a 2000 Firebird with a 5.7 V8 that has this, I don't know if they call it this now, but back in the day they called it "torque management" and it was there basically to save the transmission. Apparently it was fairly easy to turn off with a tuner, but I never got around to it.

Glad to see Chevy still has some old Cavalier interiors on hand to put into their cheap vehicles. Also interesting that they would put brake life monitoring on a Chevy. I'd expect that would be on about as much as the fuel gauge if my experience with Chevs is still on brand.

This is really different build made for better durability offroad with available Elsd (true locker lsd combo) and high country model has both Air and Magneride together, this has probably just air, he would mention if it would be High Country

The devil is in the details in the electronics up front. I own a 23 suburban Z71. It needs work and really needs to take some lessons from Tesla on the UI and the monthly sub price. My Y is $10/month, the GM is $44/month. Enjoy the video and channel.

Get a dog and/or rambuctious kids and you will see why the buttons that actually make the car move are pull and not push. Our dog is always trying to put our Grand Cherokee in different suspension and drive modes because they are on the center console😂 If they put the diesel in the Z71 I would probably consider it.
