2022 CAT 299D3 xe, "EASY" oil change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A quick video showing how easy it is to change the oil in your CAT CTL. I don't see how it could be simpler. My machine has 110 hours on it and I opted to change the oil prior to the recommended 500hr window. Hope this helps.

Yep it’s coolant drain hose, there’s a bleed with a spring on the engine block. Same on my 279. I had to dig out the mud when I first took that panel off. ;)

I appreciate the info. I really wish CAT would redesign the drain openings/plates to make it easier to clean the belly of the machine out. Thanks for watching.

Old Bobcats are the easiest in my opinion. Pop open back door, replace oil filter and drain plug is on a hose. Nice to see that Caterpillar has improved access for maintenance, I wish I had a nice machine like yours. Regular machine cleaning is the best thing you can do, one day when I have the time and money I want to restore my old equipment so I can keep it clean as well.

Thanks for your comments, I'm very blessed to have it and I've been pleased with it's performance so far. I would love to restore some older equipment too. Found an old KW dump truck for that reason but couldn't come to an agreement on price. I agree that the older Bobcats are easy for preventive maintenance; however, changing hydraulic hoses on them is a different story. As for cleaning, I clean this thing religiously, I'm probably considered a weirdo when it comes to cleaning my stuff:)

HaHa. True, hopefully my daughter doesn't want to kill me. I guess the positive aspect is since everything is computerized if the machine malfunctioned hopefully she could override it and get it off me. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the Video. Couple quick questions. Did you replace the crush washer on oil Pan drain bolt? Did you use synthetic oil or conventional? I saw it was CAT oil but couldn’t tell which above. Did you torque oil pan bolt to any specs? Love that work light may have to get one.

CAT synthetic oil and based on what I can find out it is Mobil 1. No crush washer and I do typically use a torque wrench for most everything, I'm a little OCD. I hope to post a video changing oil in my Volvo VNL truck soon. It has a composite pan and I torqued it to spec but I don't recall using it in this video. I've changed the oil in so many vehicles I've acquired a feel for it, because it doesn't take much torque.

@@theMTNmangood info thanks. Yeah I just picked up the oil filter and crush washer to change my 299xe oil for the first time. Been debating which oil to purchase and was trying to find the torque spec of the drain bolt cause I’m a little OCD too. I think it’s just peace of mind that you’ve done the job right.

How many gallons did your machine take? I just changed out the engine oil and filter on my XE and it took 3 gallons and pretty much topped it off perfect to the top hole or mark on the dip stick.

I've changed it 3 times and I'm almost sure mine is the same way. They manual says 3.5 gallons and I don't think I've ever put more than 3 in it, and mine never uses a drop of oil between changes.

Awesome thank you!! Also, I did change the rubber crush washer on mine at the oil pan bolt. With the rubber casing on washer and heat it was really stuck on there. Easiest way to get it off is with a pair of channel locks. Just barely pinch both sides, get a grip on her and pull down. I spent 30 minutes trying to get it off with a pick, flat head etc. the channel locks 5 seconds and it was off. Hope that helps you!

How are you keeping debris out of the radiator or or how do you clean it?

  • @theMTNman

I get a significant amount of debris in the valley between the radiator and the cab. I clean that by hand and use compressed air at the end of the day. I have the auto reversing fan option and I let it cycle frequently for the longest programable time. In addition to that I raise the top section up for a thorough cleaning but typically leave it down and I use compressed air and my pressure washer. I adjust my psi on washer or distance from unit to avoid damaging anything. These things are a huge investment and I really try to keep it cleaned, greased, and fluids changed at or before OEM recommendations. I'm glad you like your machine too.

What is the red thing in the left side of the engine bay abound where you put the oil in

Really not sure what you are referring to. The only red things in the engine bay are the positive wire to the battery and the positive battery lug protector. Sorry, I didn't watch the video again to see if I had something else in lying in the engine bay.
