This is a Motormouth couple car review of the BMW XB7 Alpina high-end, powerful luxury SUV. This is a fun one to end the week. The ALPINA XB7 is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina; this luxurious, high-powered SUV has a 4.4L twin turbo V8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It goes 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 290 km/h. This ALPINA XB7 is based on the X7 model line. The engine has been carefully calibrated to reflect the superior driving experience that has been signature to the most powerful ALPINA models throughout the company’s 55-year history. It features an electronically variable active limited slip differential on the rear axle with a locking torque capable of up to 1,475 pounds. This improves traction when driving ensuring that slip-induced losses are minimized and torque is distributed effectively to the wheels. The standard two-axle air suspension is primarily responsible for the balance of driving dynamics and ride comfort. When you drive over a speed bump or potholes in the road, you can’t feel them, it’s quite remarkable, the XB7 eats them up. Our test model in Dravit Grey Metallic with 23” wheels has a powerful looking exterior with a large grille, free-floating ALPINA lettering and larger air intakes. At the rear, the ALPINA sport exhaust system with two twin tailpipes is integrated well into the bumper. A panoramic sunroof comes standard but there is an optional Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, which our test model has. It generates a special aura when darkness falls with LED light spreading evenly across the glass to illuminate more than 15,000 graphic patterns and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky. Wow!The XB7 has a modern design language with elegant details in the cabin. It comes with standard 3 rows of seats or two comfortable captain’s chairs as an option for $750 CAD/$850 USD. For convenient loading, the XB7 can be lowered by up to 51 mm/2 inches at the push of a button that is located in the luggage compartment. Our test model comes with an ivory white and night blue interior with full Merino leather, a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond surround system for $4,900 CAD and the Premium package for $3,900 CAD. It includes, a BMW display key, the Sky lounge panoramic glass roof and full merino leather. Other packages available include, night vision and pedestrian detection for $2,500 CAD and a rear entertainment system for $1,950 CAD. I wasn't sure if our carry on and a cooler would fit behind the 3rd row, but it did and I was able to close the tailgate. The XB7 comes standard with a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, a 12.3” touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive system, a wireless charger, a Harman Kardon sound system, merino leather, heated and ventilated multi-contour front seats, heated rear seats, soft-close doors, a panoramic sunroof and adaptive 2-axle air suspension. Compared to the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS 63, the XB7 offers a little less front row legroom, almost 4 inches less second row legroom and over an inch less 3rd row legroom. It wins in overall cargo capacity with 90.4 cubic feet, almost 5 cubic feet more than the Mercedes-Benz. Space behind the third row goes to the GLS 63 with almost 5 cubic feet extra storage. The ALPINA XB7 has a 4.4L twin turbo V8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. I agree the other wheels and in that blue or another colour to stand out would make a big difference. Very cool vehicle that is very practical and functional as long as you can afford it.

I think this is the best looking three-row luxury SUV in its class. I can't find any fault with it. I would absolutely buy it if I was in the market for something like this. And I love the sound of that V8!

Hi to you both, i own a M760Li 2018 and think about going XB7, should i……. Love my ride, never had any problem with it but the Alkpina is also so nice……what to do….keep my & series or go XB7?, thx guys, great show…..oh and great looking wife……;)

Its really is a beauty.....has amazing performance. Just watched a 2010 review Zack did on Infinity EX 35... I chose to pick up FX 45 ... Mr S did say they were essentially the same. I have driven 100 miles in it...the power and tech was years ahead. I appreciate the knowledge you share.

This video was hilarious. Between your son and Zack cussing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. As for the vehicle, I think I’d go with the Escalade. A bmw is a bmw but the Cadillac just appeals to me more. As for the gas mileage on the Escalade, well if I can afford the car, pretty sure I can afford the gas

Positively cheap in the US and Canada. Australia is asked to pay a starting price of $265k before options or on road taxes. I must live in a less affluent suburb. I have never seen an Alpina. When I see a Ferrari or Lamborghini or McLaren on the freeway near me. I think they may be lost. Merry christmas from down under. Look forward to your reviews so much.

This was a pleasant surprise. I know Alpina well. They are quite the company. My parent’s neighbour has a bluish green B7 (7-series). And I absolutely agree about having the 20 spoke, no visible air valve stem, wheels... epically gorgeous. The price is on the high side, but as you guys pointed out... there really are only four competitors (Rolls Royce aside). My only wish would be that it looked as good as their sedans (and Estates.. Alpina B5/D5). They may be the preeminent Grand Touring machines. Thanks for another brilliant review. Cheers!

I like how your Son rolls... the sweetest deal of the McD’s chicken burgers are the ‘Jr. Chickens’. Spicier, a heck of a lot cheaper (almost 2 for 1 when compared to regular), and best of all... Not available in the United States. Like I said... sweet deal.

Great review. Great looking interior, can’t imagine fuelling that hog up. 9 MPG on a Cadillac Escalade. Far out.

They don't fold flat onto the floor but you can slide them forward to get into the back seat

The chrome looks great against dark exterior color…esp the alpina navy blue

Great video, i can only imagine the amount of power the engine can put out under different scenarios but just coasting on highway, i imagine it handles like a sedan with the V8. Great review, too bad is not a real useful family SUV due to its Price.
I will always take a gas motor over a electric. It's all about the experience...I really enjoy your reviews

16:00 the handling on that right turn looked really sketchy, maybe it was just terrible pavement but that rear was all over the place

You know BMW was really late to the party almost as late as Jeep is to the party of the three-row midsize SUV I don't know in Canada do you guys call that a full size or a mid-sized cuz that's not as big as a Tahoe or an Escalade but it is pretty big

Haha, he got his JR. Chicken and the poor grilled cheese sat in the fridge for days. I ended up throwing it out and Jack got a lecture for wasting food 😜 Jack's response "I don't need a lecture Mom" lol!
Used to dislike the design of the X7, but it has grown on me. Too bad the interior is pretty much alike to the X5.

I think that when you guys analyze consumer trends like ICE VS EVs you have to make a more global analysis. Most of the developing world is not buying large trucks like the Tahoe or Escalade.

Or EVs. Remember the vast majority of vehicles on the road are over 9 years old and more used cars are sold than new each year. Yes, new EV sales have gone up but overall in-use fleet of cars is mostly ICE and will be for a long time as ICE cars sold today (the majority) will be on the road for well over 10 years.

I just got mine. So far it seems to be very well assembled. Rides very well and pulls amazing from very low RPMs. Incredibly stable at higher speeds. But ask me again in 6-12 months.

eh, I'm on second X7 and had two X5's before that. No issues with drivetrains at all.
Alpina should be made in Germany, or reduce the price
Although those wheels are ugly, Alpina wheels have always been very expensive to get.
So I could be wrong but the Jeep grand Cherokee L has better legs and space than the X7

Sorry dont agree, I love that BMW doesn't chase "trendy", quickly passe interior designs. They have it right and stick with it.
