I just drove this car as a rental for a few days. The car is fun to drive and surprisingly quick. It pulls hard and keeps the pull at higher speeds. I was getting over 30 mpg driving it hard and a lot of city driving. I think on a pure highway drive the mpg’s would be mid to upper 30’s. To get that kind of performance and great gas mileage was impressive.

Glad you like the video! Honestly every car has a purpose and fits a different buyer. I wouldn't buy this car because I can get more performance for $40k elsewhere. But this is a great option for the person who values what this has to offer. It's a ver solid small car for sure!

I just got one, too! It’s not the cheapest thing for the size, but I got the xDrive with the M Sport Package. We were impressed by all the features on it. It’s surprisingly solid and quick for the size. My husband has a 2020 X4 M40i, so obviously his car is faster, but this little 228i has plenty of power for most drivers.

Very cool! Great little car for sure!

I rented that BMW 228i during my vacations in Florida. It's a quick vehicle, handles fine, great gas mileage but is in the small size for space.

I agree. It's a lot to get into the brand. From what BMW told me, people end up settling for the 2 series because it's a tad cheaper then the 3. I'd wait and save the money for a 3. This is a very small car

A BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is something to consider. Too bad Malaysia does not get the 228i.

This Beemer is tricky. It could be a money saver depending on what you want but comparing to the 3 series, not sure if it's a big step back, if you will. With it being it's smallest sedan, the 3 series could be worth paying more for in terms of space and performance. But this exterior color is stomping!

Yeah this is a much lesser vehicle then a 3 series I think. Most people buying this come in for other cars but can't quite stretch the budget and settle for this. It's a lot of money for a basic car. I'd save up and buy a 3 series to get much more of a luxury vehicle.

I have a 2018 bmw 330i with sports package, all black including trim. I was looking at a 2022 bmw 228. Good review, I think my 330i has more to offer. And my car only has 30miles on it.

My biggest gripe about a car is noise .... wind/road noise while driving at highway speeds. I've seen many reviews of the 2 and 3 series and nothing said about wind/road noise. I currently have a 2020 VW Jetta SEL and it's quite. It's my second Jetta.

I didn't go about 50 in this. But I've been on the highway in the 3 series and I didn't see any issues. I'm sure this is a bit louder. From what I did it felt pretty solid. Glad liking the Jetta! I like VW group a lot and would buy an Audi A3 over this 2 series. I'm sure the Audi would feel similar to the Jetta

Real reason im considering this is because bmw surprisingly has good deals, especially on their 2018-2021 models. All in all you can find some with less than 20,000 miles for under 30K not including all of the other discounts I qualify for

Yeah 2022 they are missing some things

This is the car I wanted (with the M package), but they are really hard to find. Ended up leasing a ‘23 A3 instead, but I still turn my head at the rare M235 sighting. She will be mine one day…oh yes - she will be mine 😂

This car looks great inside and out but it should MSRP at $34,000 for the xDrive to make it worth leasing or buying. Once built it ends up just under $40,000 for the xDrive which is a bit too much in my opinion.

I agree. Pretty pricey for a car that feels like a Corolla. THis is for the person who just needs to show off the BMW logo, but can't afford the bigger cars. I'd get a used 340i for the same price. Or at least a used Audi A3 for $20k or an S3 for still cheaper then this

Very nice review, the looks of the rims are not really aggressive… But with a 228hp that car can go fast….I think it’s 6.0secs 0-60mph.

I don't like how it doesn't have the few extra horses in the 330i and doesn't crackle stock :(. It looks awesome though especially in red.

Pretty much. Just added the extra doors to the 1 series coupe. Or old 1 series

They probably use these cars as Taxis over in Europe. I can see Ubers over here in the states use these as well. I rode in an E30 BMW once as a kid and thought it was the most comfortable ride ever. I imagine that this car has that same feeling. 😁

@@BrosFOURRSpeed It really does look like a Toyota Corolla from the interior side. It is a nice car but it is a lot of money for a basic transportation. I can get a used C6 Corvette for the same amount of money. If I had to pick a BMW, it would be the Z4, it is the convertible version of the GR Supra.

@@waic1639 Yeah I really don't see why someone would spend $40k for this. Nothing special about it, so it really is just a car for transportation. If I'm buying a BMW I want an M2 with a manual. Or a nice family SUV like an X5 M50 Z4 is a great car! Much softer then the Supra, but a great drop top touring car!

which one was more fun to drive? the x-drive version or this FWD? any difference?

There’s really no difference between them. Unless you drive them back to back and really test handling you won’t feel a difference daily driving.

Lexus is a bit bigger and nicer to be honest. I wouldnt buy the 2 series four door. Too expensive for a small car

Just a smaller version really. A bit cheaper feeling tho. 330i feels like a nice normal car, this is a bit cheap feeling and small. I'm not the biggest fan of this to be honest. I think the Audi A3 is a way better option

@@BrosFOURRSpeed i’m going to look at the audi a3 as well. but yeah price is interesting probably going to end up with 330i, x2 m sport or something else similar. mini countryman which I have now is priced to high for no options that the other cars offer better at base models and options in low 40,000 highest 45,000 maybe 47,000 max. I will find out this august

Weird to see fwd on a BMW. I always liked how BMW had RWD as their base. So interesting why they chose this on the new 2 series. Either cost cutting or making it more useable year round for people

Honestly you'll probably get the experience in both cars. But save a lot on the Corolla. People probably buy this to be in a BMW and have that brand. I'd save the bit ore to get into a 3 series

This is based on the Toyota Corolla so engine electronics is all Toyota so should be liable just rebranded and redesigned body but that's a Toyota Corolla

It still has a nice solid feel as expected from a BMW. It's not a tin box like a Focus lol. Here really isnt anything special about it tho, so I cant see spending $40k for it. I'd save up and buy a 3 series instead. Or just get an Audi S3

Yeah it's a four door sedan. BMW calls it a Gran Coupe to indicate the styling looks like a coupe

man that thing is hideous... especially from the back... should start at twenty five grand... overpriced... why make it look like a hatchback and then have a regular trunk?

In person it's nice a sporty looking to be honest. But you can see the stubby aspects of the design compared to the better proportions of the 3 series.

My 2006 bmw e90 was more horse power 😂 at 300 horse power the is the worst bmw ever make it look like a Toyota Corolla

Which E90? This also isn’t a performance oriented vehicle, so HP isn’t part of what this car is.
