Best video on a Caracal that I've seen so I bought a new one which finally arrived in July. Coming from a Pantera 4 with a 200VMAX with a manual jack plate to a 225SHO with a Atlas jackplate, all the electronics, 2ea 8ft power poles and it has been quite the learning curve. It has the 33 belly tank and 10 kicker and I'm using lithium's. I've made it thru the chine walk once to achieve 68.6MPH once but feel It really isn't at it full potential. It does like to chine walk. I've moved around tackle load to the back and it really didn't help. While researching I came up with the following possible problems - loss of weight to the rear because of the lithiums. Also prop selection, which is a bit difficult as I can't find many SHO threads in which anyone is using the prop that came with this boat from Basscat which is a T2-23P or tried others. I think Yamaha's test they used a 24P(assume T1) and got better speeds. Could this be a just a 67 MPH boat? Any suggestions?

The Caracal with the SHO is a 72-74 MPH boat. I have owned 5 of them and they have all been the same. I have never run Lithiums in them so that could be causing you balance issues as the boat is weight sensitive. I have always run a 25p prop on mine and I use the jackplate to help holeshot if bogged down with full live wells or a heavy load. The poles will take a bit out of the speed as well but not a bunch. The belly tank could be the biggest problem. Great for holeshot, horrible for bow lift but with the right jackplate height and load distribution of tackle it will still run well. I had one built with the 2- 26 gallon rears and a 33 under the seat and it ran 72-74 loaded with 85 gallons of fuel. Be patient, you will get there.

I just got my Caracal SP after waiting for 10 months and I’m so happy with it! I could see myself keeping this boat for twenty years and re-power because I love it so much.

It’s definitely one of my favourites if not the favourite. The Puma STS I have coming may have the only shot at dethroning the Caracal for me!

JP thanks for sharing your Cat. I agree a big boat sometimes is harder to maneuver in the trough. Depends on the seas. Have fun and good fishing to all.

Awesome to hear, yea the Eyra is like a sports car. For myself, being rather large makes me really love the wide body boats. Last year I ran my second Eyra and they are a blast to drive!

SP and Premium are made exactly the same. I was gonna go with the premium, but I talked to Rick at a show and he talked me into the SP.

Great video, love the caracal, How does the boat cruse at lower speeds say 30-40mph. I have been married to main main fishing partner for 25 years and still can't convince her that 70+ is fun on the water.

I find the Caracal cruises much lighter at those speeds with the Yamaha SHO over the Merc and it’s purely due to the gear case difference. Power and performance wise both are great motors but low cruising speeds I give the advantage to the Yamaha

I pull it back to be more centred in the big deck as we fish lumpy waters up here. If you are a small water guy and love pitching and flipping, leaving it forward is a great option.

Do the dual 26 gallon tanks feed fuel at the same time or do you have to switch tanks as one gets near empty?

Depends on your dealer and location. I’m Canada there are too many extras to deal with like exchange, shipping and our nasty taxes which add an additional 13%!
