I am very impressed with how much truck campers have changed over the years! We had @ truck camper back in the 80’s that was like a sardine can in comparison! This is like a palace! Enjoy!

That’s a very nice setup you have. I think you are correct in throwing the TV in the bag with the stock comforter and pillow covers. Then putting them back when it’s time to sell. I didn’t realize these campers held over fifty gallons of fresh water. That’s pretty impressive. Stay safe and have fun traveling with your new camper!

For the bed comforter and pillow, when we received one previously, we bagged it and put it in storage. After a year or so we knew we never would use them so we took them to a thrift store. Note I didn’t call the bed cover a “comforter” as I couldn’t imagine putting the acrylic material against my skin. I like your rig; it has good space & storage. The dry bath, very nice. I have an Escape 5.0 and I really am not fond of the wet bath but it is better than not having a shower.

I did the same thing and put them in bags in storage until time to sell unit. Love this setup you have.

Great video! Thaks for sharing, We have the 1140 dry, we don;t use that shower pull thing. I installed one of those tri section shower curtains that arches out. You could use some construction adhesive on 3 little metal squares and also put earth magnets at the bottom of your shower curtain to stick to those metal squares, so it doesnt come out of the shower pan.

Very nice video, which really shows off the advantages and some of the issues with the Artic Fox 1150. I currently have a Lance 915 but it needs a ladder so I can get up to the cabover bed. (I've fallen from the bed a couple of times and do not want to repeat falling.) I have a new Ford F350 dually, so I can handle a larger camper. The step you have is nice, but you might consider a ladder which would go across the area for the step; a ladder does make it easier to get up or down. // My camper has the covers on the bed but they are made from cotton, which means they can be used as covers at night. I live in New Mexico, which is a lot hotter than Canada (currently we are having temps around 40C). I love the fact you can use the bath when the slide is inside. Makes it much easier to stop on your drive. Have a great week and summer. As for your roof vent cover, if you want it darker all the time, use some plastic spray paint in a dark color to protect it and keep the cover dark; I've found painting the plastic will protect from the adverse UVA/UVB from the sun.

For the problem with the water in the shower door you could try drying it with a squeegee before you exit the shower that way you’re taking away a good majority of the water off that door before it does it’s job which from what you said it was leaving a lot of water down on the bottom of the door which was leaking water everywhere. See if that helps you.

we have the Arctic Fox 811 on our Ford F350, it was okay on the factory suspension, but we added Helper Springs, Airbags and Torsion Bar. Which made a huge difference. I wanted a dually, but the wife didn't like driving a dually, so we went with the single rear axle and made the mods. liked your video.

I just brought home my 2023 992 one week ago. So sweet, ordered mine in nov.of 2021. It rides in the back of my 2021 ram 3500 drw. Spent 3 yrs putting my rig together and now it is all together. Still getting camper in order for her maiden outing. I am in texas and it so freaking hot down here right now. Have spent couple nights in the camper just too check things out. I live in NM; the heat is something else this summer. Weeks of over 100 F. temps and I don't have A/C, just a swamp cooler for the house.

Just looking it up a 2x4 F350 is 7200 lbs payload. With adding 4x4 and crew cab it drops a lot. If you get lariat or higher it drops even more. So it would be easy to over load an F350 if you put all your gear in load 2-4 people and have full tanks. You also need to find out how much payload changes for the overhang on the back as that adds to the stress on the frame. I would almost consider an F550 as a F450 only adds about 600 Lbs of payload. But I think you are pushing it with an F350 with water and all your gear plus passengers. Remember your 100-300lbs per passenger depending on who is with you

I've fallen from high places a couple of times and it does have an impact. The last time was a few years back and the ladder I was on came off the beams on a metal building which had been built for me. I was about 14 up when the ladder started coming down, so I rode the ladder. I was not hurt, but now I would not want to do that. I have vertigo at times, which means my wife really screams at me if I get on a ladder. My current Lance 915 has a storage box on top, so the total height is about 12.5 feet.

Man...that thing is a monster! I was looking at the 811, but that would have pushed me way over my payload. I'm happy with my little Cirrus 620.

Nice looking rig brother. We currently have a 2008 Lance 992 double slides. After trying it out last year we looked at makes with a love seat type layout. We found the dinette uncomfortable sitting at watching TV or relaxing before bed. We looked at the 2022 Lance 1172 double slide out camper and traded ours on one that we ordered last November. Should be delivered this July. We ordered it with dual lithium batteries dual solar panels and an propane generator. We also ordered the cell phone signal antenna booster. Covers for the slide out good idea. You’re right about the fuel pretty much double from last year. I’m in Ontario if you’re travelling across Canada stop in we’d love to check out your rig. I’ll be watching to see how your camper stands up and your thoughts on your travels. 👍🇨🇦

I'd like to add a pair of 6V or lithiums. But really I use so little power I'm not draining the lead acid I currently haven Lance builds a nice camper. Looked at a 1172 before this.

Those shower curtains are convenient, but mine always seems to leak a little water no matter how much silicone I put down there. I just try to stay aware of it and dry it up after a shower.

I BET you're over your payload. I'm not saying the truck can't handle the payload but being in truck campers for 20 plus years, I know these things are heavy. The Arctic Fox is especially heavy. GREAT campers but heavy. Thanks for sharing.

I have a 2018 1140. I removed the factory toilet paper holder and blocked off the hole. Then purchased a rack that fits inside that skinny cabinet under the sink. Beware that the grey water tank vent comes up under the vanity. If you travel with a full grey water tank it will slosh up and out that vent all over the bathroom.

Information worth knowing. Hey, at least it’s not the black tank vent!

The biggest takeaway? "It's a long way down" 😆

Don’t worry about so much of weight, you gonna get the samiler fuel mileage, believe it or not!!!! you never know if you ever be breakdown. It’s always nice to have a freshwater in hand.!!!

So did I I. But in the end I wanted the sink beside the stove top. And the stove top vented to the outside. All depends on your own preferences.

First thing my wife does when we buy new is gather up all the bedding, pack It away and get new bedding. Dry cleaners won’t clean the new stock bedding because it’s garbage. Just looks good for sale only. You got Coleman AC and thats the best unit. Domestics are problem prone. We don’t order thermal dual pane windows because they fail.

Sometimes in the slideouts, the floor gap allows air from outside in. To fix this issue, I use those FOAM-linings for winter on pipes as insulation. It works great and comes in various sizes. You can also use a small diameter one for your shower/door gap area you showed.

I’m amazed for the price of these they’re not putting 12 V fridges in them it really makes no sense to be using propane when you got such a small fridge that will easily run off of the solar, and extend your propane and the fridge will gain space by being even deeper. I wonder if they’ve considered building one of these units with lighter materials and all the storage and cupboard space to save two or three or 400 pounds, as these are getting so heavy

Propane cools so much faster than 12v. And uses such a small amount. I guess you could use 12v running down the road but the fans in these new fridges will draw a pair of batteries down overnight if it’s really hot. And that’s with running the cooling on propane. I had a Bigfoot with a 3 way fridge and never used the 12v option.

Would you happen to have a part number for the Fox landing in the back on your build sheet? My camper is a 2022 1150, the bumper looks like yours, but both the dealer I bought it from and northwoods themselves are useless in telling me what version of the Fox landing steps would work. I would buy one to try, but of course no returns if it doesn’t fit.

I don’t know if I’d haul it with an F350 or 3500HD. If anyone has seen the 1ton Ram hauling a similar camper bent the frame in half. People forget the weight of what you put in the truck not to mention the people you haul takes up payload. Plus when you add 4x4 and the higher level of luxury in your truck that lowers available payload. A 2x4 base reg cab truck has highest payload. Arctic Fox made one camper that took a F550 to haul. People also don’t realize the overhang off the back puts additional stress onto the frame in the center of the truck. So I’d want at least an F450 to haul this camper.

I paid twenty eight grand cash for my Arctic fox in 2004 and it started cracking apart after 4 years and many other problems I sold it for 10 grand because the problems the best truck camper I had out of many was a seventies Open Road Arctic fox could be improved by installing a gas hot water heating boiler system to make heating way better and to fight mold and freeze problems

I constantly go back, and forth between truck camper, travel trailer, 5th wheel...so many options, and pros/cons to all of them. Looks good though. Did you look at Host or Lance or? What was it on this one that made your choice.

I sure did. But I wanted a camper I could use with the slide closed if need be. And no more than one slide.

The cover is for LOOKS, LOOKS sells. I bet that bad boy is heavy. Is your truck diesel? I have a Dodge quad cab, 8' bed with factory air bags. 5280 pounds on bed weight, good video, very informative . Very nice camper but I ordered a 975 Lance, I hope it's good for winter, 2024 model, my last camper was a 2023 Northern Lite, primitive stuff on the camper but kept you warm. My wife would LOVE a big TV. lol, she camps to watch TV, but she's a walker. We are older people and not in good health. Wondering about your truck and how it handles the rig. VERY NICE RIG! I hear good things about the Artic Fox.

I did look at the Host campers. But I didn’t want more than one slide (more weight and complexity) or a door on the side. They are nice campers but they are even heavier than the one I have. I also like the 865 without a slide. But it’s a bit small with reduced water capacity.

@@darrylg7600 Yes, you're right about that. I was hoping I could close all the slides behind me once I was in the bunk for the night at a Cabel's or something. Hoped I could get away with tardocking that way. Pretty much would need to keep the slide remote as a necklace. Lol.

“I was thinking of which model to buy .” It must be nice to be able to afford such luxury , some people live on the streets and have no food, some people live in two houses and some people are on their death bed , so please enjoy you’re camper thank the good Lord for you’re health , with out health money and good things mean nothing all the best my friend 😊

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. One of the reasons I have this camper. It will be my mobile base camp for mountain climbing , cycling, hiking. And I do appreciate all that I have. And I have worked very hard to afford it.

Very impressive rig! quick question. Where do you think your center of gravity is for your rig without any tounge weight? approximately is good. I'm sure your aware of those videos going around with the broken/bent frame chassis. No worries even with 59 gals of h2o?

The CG is right near the Center of the axle. So no worries there. I also tow a car hauler with an FJ40 on top. So another 8-10k depending. I’ve been doing this since 2019 although my first camper was a 990. Never had any troubles.

Can you give us an approximate cost of your camper ?

Darryl, A couple things. Since you are going to tow wouldn’t it be best to add some heavy duty air bags to the F450 just to reduce squat and help out when you go off-road? Do you know which camper is insulated best (best R rating throughout), the Arctic Fox or the Lance? Thanks for the content.

If I needed more spring I would add bigger packs. I have towed with this setup and really the truck sits at level. And handles excellent. So no bags for this truck. I only tow once a year or less. I don't think any of these campers are rated for our winter where it gets -35 for weeks on end.

@@darrylg7600 Very cold weather requires a person to adapt to the cold. I grew up in Colorado where the winter temps can get very cold. Winter camping can be very challenging since the temps can get down into the minus 40 range (F).

@@inthesunbythebeach It’s gets -45 here. That said, I do not camp in the winter, it’s just not enjoyable. I’d rather go skate ski or fatbike.I had a 1987 Bigfoot and that older camper was in no way suitable for winter camping. There are folks that use Arctic Fox in the winter, with good success. But again it’s all about prep. I would go with an Arctic Fox 865 if I really wanted to winter camp. No slide though.

Hi there. The truck weighs 9800 lbs and the camper weighs about 5400 lbs wet. So if you add me and a passenger it’s well over 15,000 lbs. Not sure what the weight rating is on the F450 but Ford rates this truck very conservatively on paper to keep it a class three truck. Yes we sit all the time with the slide in. Did that in the 990 as well. It’s important to be able to do that because sometimes you want to be “stealthy” in the Walmart lot lol. That said, I think you have enough truck for this camper. You may decide not to have 500-600 lbs of water on board but that is a minor concern.

It looks like there's so much hanging beyond the rear tires. Any concerns with center of gravity or the front end lifting up?

Center of gravity is on the camper and aligns with the Center of the rear axle. Truck handles the camper with ease.

The payload capacity for the f450 is less than the f350, so you must be at or over your limit with such a large camper. The truck can certainly carry the load, but you face liability risk if overloaded.

I don’t know. I’ve never looked. I will next year when it’s out of storage. My 990 never had one. The ceiling fan pulls all kinds of air in though. Good question.

It looks so big and top heavy to me! I imagine it’s hard to drive on windy days but it is beautiful!!!

Very nice rig and great video, if I may ask why didn’t you go with the 550 for more payload. Depending on the trim package the 350 has more payload than the 450 that can be seen by the sticker on drivers door column. Or was it because you tow the trailer and Jeep and the 450 gives more towing capacity.

Ford rates the F450 like this to keep it a class three truck. But it’s far beyond the beyond the 350 in actual capacity. And the turning radius is something like 8 feet tighter. I’ve had two F350s in the past. And this time I wanted 19.5 inch wheels and tires. I did not want a 550 because I didn’t want a flat deck. And I wanted a truck I can use for many other things. Although the 450 seems to have the camper on it full-time now. And I tow the FJ40 very infrequently. Less than once a year.

Agree that the F350 with the 7.3 gas has a much higher capacity for a truck camper. The problem is the F450 only comes with the heavy diesel engine. The extra 500 lbs or so of weight means that it carries 500 less pounds of camper. Simple arithmetic ;-) BTW, the F350 and F450 have the same exact gross weight, 14,000 lbs. I guarantee that this rig is way over it's design GVWR once the camper is installed and rig is ready for travel. These "houses in truck bed" campers need medium duty trucks to be legal. The Idea that the F450 is some sort of super F350 was true. Decades ago ;-) Once Ford was pushed (by aftermarket conversions) to factory manufacture the F450 pickup with a bed, Ford did not use the existing F450 cab chassis (which was the only way to purchase if from Ford at the time) and created a new truck: F-450 pickup. Other than the front suspension which allows a nice, tight turning radius and the large wheels the F450 an F350 have similar capacities. Except the F350 can legally carry more weight ;-) Now, if you actually buy the F-450 Cab and Chassis you get all the things that F450 pickup truck owners "think" they got ;-) Thicker frame, bigger gears, etc and a GVWR of 16,000 lbs. Ford kinda plays on this confusion a bit and doesn't make it clear to F450 buyers that they are actually just getting a F350 with a wide track front end with bigger wheels, a standard diesel engine, and standard 4:30 gears. The rest is all regular super duty stuff. Best would be a true F-450 Cab Chassis with an aluminum flat bed for the camper and a 16,000+ gross vehicle weight rating. You would now be legal ;-)

@@jamesvelvet3612 I’ve had two F350’s So I’m well aware of their capabilities. The F450 has 19.5 inch tires and wheels (like a medium duty truck). This is a huge difference. The front axle is a wide track that turns 8 feet tighter! It also has a larger rear axle in spline count. Massive sway bars front and rear. The brakes are also far larger than the F350. These brakes wouldn’t even fit in the wheels of the F350. Ford rates the F450 like this to keep it a class three truck. This is no secret. I chose the F450 this time mainly for its wheels and tires and its massive brakes and wide track front axle. Did not want the detuned Cab/Chassis motor. You sound like an F350 owner lol!

@@darrylg7600 Brakes are one inch larger in diameter. The rest is the same ;-) Don't confuse the F-450 Cab Chassis with the F-450 Pickup truck. Two different animals ;-) The real F-450 (cab-chassis) is a medium duty truck with a 16,000 lb GVWR. F-450 is great for pulling, but not for hauling. You can buy a F-350 that will (legally) carry a 7,000lb camper (!). Much higher capacity than a superduty F-450 pickup truck. Same rear end, only with a 4:30 gear set is the only difference. Same gear set is available on the F-350 ;-)

​@@jamesvelvet3612 I'm not confused. I'm a mechanic and I have compared the F350 and 450 directly as I have owned both. The F450 has larger rear inner axles (f350 37 spline the F450 41 spline. The hubs are very different. The F450 has larger 10 bolt hubs (F350 has 8 bolt hubs). Front axle is completely different as it is a wide track. The wide track front axle also has bigger steering knuckles and larger 1550 series u-joints to allow it to get 45° of steering and larger axle tubes. Fender flares are needed. A wide track Dana super 60 alone is over $8000. The F450 has larger brake rotors, larger calipers and pads. The brake hoses are also different. The master cylinder is larger. The sway bars on the F450 are also much larger. A nice thing for hauling a TC. The rear spring packs have a thicker and longer 4th leaf. Shock mounts are also different. I'm sure I have missed other differences but these are the main things. The 19.5 inch medium duty wheels and tires are (to me anyway) the biggest advantage. There are a million threads regarding the conversions to the these wheels and tires for hauling a TC. The cost of a custom set of wheels with tires is nearly what the price difference is between an F350 and 450. And of course you can't just bolt on a set of F450 wheels to an F350 due to the larger hubs with 10 bolts vs 8.

You said in the video that the 1150 weighs 5400 lbs. Is that a wet wt verified on a scale or an estimate? Like the technical nature of your videos. Keep up the great work! All repair and maintenance videos are appreciated. Thanks, KevinN, Houston, TX

@@darrylg7600what is the weight on your rear axle? My arctic fox 1140 puts my rear axle only 200 pounds under the max 9900 pound limit. This is on our 2022 F450. I was floored when I saw the cat scale weight of our rig! Total weight of the truck was 15,040 pounds…. I would assume the wheel and tire package is rather heavy but it’s also considered unsprung weight, so may be taking that from the equation may be a little easier to swallow.

I want to purchase a new F450 dully and a new AF 1150. I have never driven a truck with a camper on it, I've only pulled travel trailers. What I'm wondering is how the F450 handles all of the weight on the truck? How does the rig handle while traveling the highways? How does it handle curvy roads? It seems that it would be top-heavy and tip over easily. I'm sure I'm wrong and would like to hear your thoughts since you've got a lot of experience.

The truck handles this just fine. The F450 has a massive sway bar also. A lot of the weight is on the bed floor with basement model campers. A drw is ideal for a TC. The wind and road are not going to affect it like an srw. The truck drives like the camper isn’t there on the highway. For what it’s worth I had 4 F350’s before this. All srw.

I thought it was funny how you were focused on your comforter when the entire interior looks like it was still built in the early 70’s. Loved the “carpet”! At least it wasn’t lime green shag, lol! nuCamp Cirrus is absolutely embarrassing the entire truck camper market by their smart design and simplicity. Imagine that?! An RV manufacturer that actually cares about its customer base! Did that just come out of my mouth?!

The maximum payload on your truck as it sits is 5,630. How on earth are you not going to exceed that?

I own a 2022 F450 as well but I would never put that size truck camper on it. This set up is way over weight for a 14,000 lb max payload truck. In theory the truck can handle that no problem the only issue is staying under that 14,000 pound max weight rating. If I were going to overload my truck yes, the F450 would be the one to go with.

Order the truck with the camper suspension pkg or add timbren hollow rubber springs.

I have a 2020F450 with a payload sticker of 4850 how does that compare to your payload sticker?

@@darrylg7600 Have you added any suspension upgrades? I have airbags on mine to raise it some when pulling a large fifth wheel I have . Truck handles it fine but headlights slightly aim higher when pulling so airbags help lower headlights some . I know these trucks are somewhat de rated payload wise for legal means . But still kinda scares me to be 1500 or so over sticker payload of truck.

@@cwtex59 It didn’t need anything. I’m not a fan of airbags either. Still sits a bit high in the rear. With the 19.5 you have zero to worry about!

This camper is surprisingly long ! Am I correct that F450 has 8 ft bed ?

Yea 8 foot bed. Camper floor is 11 1/2 feet long

@@nia6849 I tow a 20 foot car hauler with an FJ40 on top with the camper. It weighs about 10k.

THIS IS A NICE UNIT…BUT…I’ m UNCOMFORTABLE with this LARGE size; I like something…MORE nimble…HOWEVER, that test step is PERFECT!! 👍🏼👍🏼👣

Hi Darryl I like your set up and order the same camper in February of this year. My camper will be going on a 2020 GMC 6.6L Duramax 3500 Allison 10- Speed Dually Truck. I believe the truck will handle the camper. i will most likely not carry a full tank of water sense most of my stay will be at camp sites. The Dry Bath is what sold me and being able to use the camper with the slide in. My camper is do to be completed the third week of August. Can you give me some feed back. When I order my camper in February it was being build as a 2022 camper with the options I wanted added. The price was agreed to with Taxes and fees. When I check on the status of the build the sale person said it will now be a 2023 camper and the price went up $3500.00. What is your thought on this matter. Note: I am not sure of what changed on the camper from 2022 to 2023.

I did the same thing. Yours will be a 2023. I placed the order in October and agreed on a price. I think I put a $5000 deposit down at the time. The dealer told me prices had gone up in the spring but he would honour his price with me. I guess this is up to the dealer? I would think they should go with the price. Did you put a deposit down?

Well Megamillions is high again. A Boy can dream. I wish I could afford either the truck, the fuel or the camper.

Overweight?

Why not open cabinets, so that we can see how the storage is set up? No 12V fridge? That's silly.

Well, I never thought of it! Good idea though. Anyway, a 12v fridge is no good for me as we spend nearly all our trips boondocking.

I always said with the truck and the money spent for the camper. I will get a real nice pull behind camper and with any camper I want with the truck. I guess everyone has their own cup of tea

@@tublisvaj8966 I can't get a pull trailer into the trail heads where this will get parked while on back country hikes or bikes. And I can't tow my FJ40 behind a trailer.

OK, so if they can fit this much space on this small a footprint, why can't someone make a towable the same size with the same features. Think about all of the storage you would have under the bed if the towable was box shaped.

What did you pay!!!$$$

It still looks like a 990 with an extra closet.

Yes is sure does. Except for the dry bath and extra storage it is the same.
