Year after year, the compact crossover segment is vastly advancing here in North America. So, it comes as no surprise that GMC has heavily refreshed its long-standing offering in the market: the Terrain.
New for 2022 is a plethora of features that help position the Terrain as an even more compelling choice within the compact utility vehicle segment. For example, one major addition is the introduction of the first-ever AT4 trim level for the Terrain. This model (which is presented in this video) shows how GMC is trying to capture an increased market size (possibly more adventurous younger demographic buyers). Regarding sizing, the Terrain is the smallest SUV that GMC offers in North America. If you're looking for much more space, additional rows of seating, and boosted power, it's suggested that you upgrade to either the Acadia or even the much larger Yukon.
In short, GMC knew that if they wanted to attract more consumers into Mazda showrooms, they had to thoroughly refresh their offering while still keeping it with a competitive price and feature list. Introducing the NEWLY-REFRESHED 2022 / 2023 GMC Terrain!
GMC claims that the #GMCTerrain will be the ideal answer to reign supreme versus other competitors within the oh-so-competitive Compact Utility Vehicle segment. Some of the many competitors that the all-new GMC Terrain AT4 will be stacked-up against will include the Subaru Forester Wilderness, Chevy Equinox, Hyundai Tucson XRT, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 TRD , Ford Escape, Kia Sportage X-Pro, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, Mitsubishi Outlander, and the list goes on-and-on!
So, did GMC equip the new Terrain with enough features, practicality, and curb appeal to survive the raging stampede of sub-compact utility vehicles? Or will the Terrain just get trampled (and kicked aside) as other competitors dominate the segment? There's only one way to find out! Enjoy this #Pros and #Cons countdown video.

I'm disappointed that GMC took out the subwoofer in the lower trim levels. You have to have the AT4 or Denali to have access to a better sound system. The sound system in the terrain is so underwhelming, I don't even play music or radio inside the vehicle, because it sound like a 1990s cobalt radio.

Just got the 2023 model, SLE trim, 2 WD for the wife's commute. Other reviews knock the dinky motor. I did not see any special problem taking hills or passing. It is not a race car. The 9 speed transmission is so smooth you won't feel it going through the gears. Being as our last car was 10 years old, I am amazed by all the features. The lane monitor and adaptive cruise are something different to get used to. I like how her phone is paired to the screen to bring up maps and other aps. Three weeks into ownership I am pleased with it.

We had a 2018 when this model first launched and I was also a bit skeptical of the 1.5L engine, but it was perfectly powerful enough. Back then they were practically giving them away with amazing lease deals, and it turned out to be the perfect road-trip cruising vehicle. Very smooth and easy to handle. I switched to a sedan and sometimes miss the terrain for the ride comfort.

@@Clipper1094 Yep. It seems as if all sedans now come with hard as rock low profile 19-20 inch wheels for no reason at all. The Terrain comes with 17 inch rather high profile tires and gosh - it's easy to drive for 2-3 hours at a time.

Yeah the interior is like last gen tech for sure, but I think it's nice to have physical buttons and knobs for climate control. Let's face it, this may be the last iteration of this vehicle using ICE power.

We bought a used 2022 Terrain a few weeks ago and we LOVE it. The little engine has plenty of power when that turbo kicks in and the 28 MPG in the city makes us smile...!!! Don't really like the pull-button drive selection, but oh well, it works...!!! No such thing as a perfect car...!!! 😊

GMC has all of its buttons like this because they design all of their models to be usable if you have gloves on. Simple, easy to press and forget about it. Knobs for the basics as well. My 2014 Mustang was similar. No bling, no fuss. Simple and easy controls. The 2015+ were... busy? Yes, I think that describes it well.

Great review, but I was expecting the fold-flat front passenger seat to be on the hit list. I actually like that GMC has stuck with a simple infotainment and actual buttons; when I test drove some of the competition the touch buttons were really quite annoying - the VW Tiguan being the biggest offender that I saw. So far I'm happy with my Terrain.

@@buddylove6718 no real complaints so far. The adaptive cruise and lane keep stuff aren't as aggressive as my last car, but that car would also use those "features" to try to kill me from time to time. @@BoswelliaLuna8 no. This vehicle has plenty of pep to zip around the city, and get up to highway speeds. The only place I'd say it "struggles" is passing on country roads and even then it's better than the average car from 20 years ago.

Can't believe I am just seeing this now, I always liked the Terrain, it's just the right size, not too big, not too small, and I definitely agree with the front turn signals, definitely should have been LED, and even though the rear turn signals are LED, I wish they were amber and separate from the brake lights.

Of note is that this engine/transmission combo is very similar to what Audi used in its previous generation A4. The AI really does an efficient job of getting you going smoothly if you as he said, "forget it's there". Will it win any 0-60 races? You don't buy this because you want to speed. You buy it because it's soft, quiet, and understated like an Audi without the huge price tag.

Engine options would be a plus bc a lot of people really rely on power to tow just about anything in the country and Texas has a lot of rural areas. With that said there is a lot of rain and every other year we get freak weather changes and occasionally back to back winter snow storms and having that AWD option will come in handy. Well at least you have a better chance of getting out of a slippery area with a front wheel drive than you would with a red but AWD is definitely better and that capless gas tank is not security minded against theft and water gets through the Lil door and actually accumulates on to the oraface of the tank pipe.. I know I'm renting one right now as I'm watching your podcast

I've had my Terrain AT4 for a couple weeks now, came from a 2018 Civic Sport Touring with a 1.5L Turbo and a CVT (slightly more hp but less torque), and I'm pleasantly surprised by the Terrain's get-up-and-go, it'll spin the wheels in FWD mode quite easily; passing power on country roads is as expected, though I haven't pushed it to the max just yet.

@@pierre-michelfortin3954 It reminds me of my dad's older Audi A4. You think.. this doesn't even have 200HP, how can it be decent? The trick is that 1st gear and off the line until the turbos are spun up is... slow. But wait 1 second and let it get to second gear and properly spun up and off it goes. It is especially geared well for highway passing or anything in the 30-70mph range. Which is why if you "forget it's there", it's perfectly driveable. Just don't mash the throttle off the line. It will make tons more noise and not really go any faster.

Nice review but wow. This is so typical GM inside. Huge disappointment… For $5K more can stick with a warrantied BMW X5, Audi Q7, Rover Sport or Benz GLE class. And yes I’ll get killed on resale by 10% less and maintenance is a nightmare on most. But At least I’m sitting in true Euro Luxury… My only other option I’m looking at on the US side is the new Lincoln’s SUV’s - they’re all getting changed after 2024 so that’ll beat down resale too. My reason for even looking at this was its AWD (Rocky Mtns @ 9,000 ft) needed and offers the HUD system which few euro cars do. Of course every Asian car parks, drives and offers every gadget possible but are made from tin cans. Just sold my dads Honda Pilot 9 yrs old with 80K on it in mint condition for $15k! I think he paid $23k for it in 2011. So props to the Asians for beating us at our own game. I think the Accord and Camry are the 2 top selling cars globally? I may be wrong but mum had an accord and it ran forever. Trans dropped at 88K miles but a drive it like it was stolen lol. Anyway - at least the US is still putting gas guzzling powerful engines in most mid and large SUV except ironically the “Terrain”. Every review but yours (stopped after No.4 negatives and seeing the interior. OMG. Horrid!) but every Terrain review says the engine is gutless and too small. U.K./Suro SUV and Crossovers also (abroad when I’m living in London)get over 50mpg on average!? I’ve yet to hear a good reason for the huge disparity? But suspect its emissions and their use of I-5 or 4 cylinder gutless motors. Don’t misunderstand they do over up to 4L V6 and some V8’s in the 2020’s models mentioned and still show MPG above 35-55mpg? I don’t get that!? But sadly the steering wheel is in the wrong side so sits in the garage when I’m stateside otherwise for $700 I’d just ship it here or there as with petrol here breaking $6 over thanksgiving and earlier think it was around the 4th of July whilst prices here have dropped some in CA and NY you’re still looking at $8 bucks. Crazy. Off topic but went to the F1 race in Saudi and paid .68 cents per gallon when returning our rental car. Under Mr. T in TX I flew to Dallas for a wedding and one place was selling it for 97cents/gal a the USA left OPEC and became the No.1 exporter of oil. How the mighty have fallen. Sigh. Anyway. He’s off the CO ballet so guess I’ll vote for Kennedy! Never forget AFG and the $52B he surrendered to our 20 year enemy the Taliban. And for all the CNN/MSNBC reporters saying day after day after day how #45 was going to get us into a war with N. Korea, China, Russia and others? Just look at where we are now in only 2.5 years. I won’t even mention the S. Borders as I’m fighting to get my SSDI check and find a new doctor. The system is so overloaded here they’re literally taking non resident illegals before tax paying citizens! Here’s your phone and Deivers license and right to vote AND housing. Welcome! WTH is going on? Try that in any other 1st world country you’re on the next flight home and you do pay that return ticket! Unbelievable.
