R1’s are notorious for not always wanting to start on the first try. Especially if the ECU is flashed. You kinda need to just hold the starter longer than normal to get it going.
@ItzLobbyBobby
Жыл бұрын
I wonder if this is a Yamaha quirk in general? I have an MT07 and ever since I had the ECU flashed it always takes an extra push of the starter for it to fire up. If you hold the switch the first time the starter will just go on and on and on without the engine turning over. But on the 2nd push it turns on perfectly.
@Treizez34
Жыл бұрын
@@ItzLobbyBobby possibly. Thinking about it, the problem could be more of a fuel pump issue as the starter is clearly working but the engine just hesitates to turn over. Don’t know why Yamaha has never addressed this in their machines (especially considering how much money they make across all their businesses)

@@ItzLobbyBobby my R1 doesn’t like starting after it’s warmed up. I believe it has to do with the cross plane crank. The way it fires one cylinder at a time I think makes it tougher. With normal I4’s you have 2 cylinders firing together
I live up in the mountains of WV. I live around 45 minutes away from the back of the dragon. I started on an R3 around 5 years ago, went to a 2020 R6, then a 2021 MT10, and now I have a 2023 R1. I love the bike but I live in technical heaven lol. We have a lot of roads you can open them up on and alot of roads that are twisty. I love this bike more than my R6. The R6 has a more aggressive sitting position stock, it isn't by a lot but there is a big enough difference. I've rode other liter bikes but this is my very first brand new liter bike. I use it to go everywhere and I have yet to get tired of riding it. I haven't rode further than a couple hundred miles though. I don't go on road trips on motorcycles at the moment anyway. I'll just trailer it to bike shows. What blows my mind is all the technology it has but doesn't have a fuel gauge lol.
I love my 2019 Yamaha R1, I daily it every where! I love it. Once you get comfortable riding it it’s the perfect bike. Also it’s a show stopper.
I daily rode an 02' R1 for ten years , got the 12' and daily rode that until this year. Now at 41 I daily ride a 24 navi and weekend 23 mt07. R1 will always be a great machine to me.
The R1 cinematics is LIT!! I briefly met Chase at Mountain Motorsports once and he is a cool dude.✌🏽

My 2011 r1 gets extremely hot. It doesn't really start cooling down until I'm going at least 40mph. I also never touch A mode, it's pretty wild. Also I average 23 mpg on mine. So it's nice to see that absolutely nothing has changed besides a little more power
Yeah I heard about the rumors of how uncomfortable this bike can be, and that's why I decided to just go with the mt-09 for better practicality. But the R1 would be awesome on the track and be much better on the highways as well.

I’ve been riding 600’s since I passed my test 6 years ago. I’ve always wanted an R1 and it’s becoming more and more apparent that it’s just not a good bike for daily use. I use my GSXR for everything all time of the year. But I’m still going to get an R1, it’s something I just need to do and then it’s done. Probably keep it for a year and change it for an S1000RR which sounds like a better everyday sportsbike
When mountain gets a new version of the s1000rr I would love to see you guys review it!

I never rode a cross-plane R1, it's on my bucket list. I have owned a 99' and a 07' R1. The 07 was a hot running bike. I bought both bikes new and they were stock. On a summer day, if I took I-95 into Philly for example, once I got into city streets the bike would run the coolant temp gauge high enough to trip the flashing red light and I would have to park the bike so it could cool down. The undertail exhaust also created a lot of heat around the seat. It was nice in the winter 😆
would love to have u and the zoo crew here in my box fer MotoGP Austin some year - Great review as always
Supposedly it’s an emission thing with the throttle. Values are switched in the factory tune for hand throttle position vs throttle plate.
I haven't watched you long enough to know.. what is your favorite type/or bike to ride?
My inner squid is sobbing in a corner after this review lol... but seriously I'm so glad I found this channel. Hopefully I can get a bike soon, I pass that bike shop from time to time so I might get to see you out there one day
I need to pay my current bike off so I can start saving for an R1 🤣. Love the blue look
I rode this machine to high school and became a superstar
I got the r15 v4 as my first bike and just revving that a bit and the speed that it goes makes me feel like flash, I can’t fathom how it feels on these 1000s😂
strictly for a city riding scenario, it really doesn't make sense to use a sportsbike. some may even argue that any 'big bike' , naked or sports, doesn't. a scooter is more than enough to get you around and complete your errands. it's easy to move around, light and small to weave in traffic, has space for your things, ridiculously low fuel consumption, and other benefits that really suits riding in the city.
Why did it need a new engine after only 10k miles?
I also used to think that the R 1 was the greatest ever but now I agree with your assertion and actually I expected them I would have been shocked if you had said it's a good street bike and that strange shifter? what's that all about? Never the less it is still among the coolest looking bikes ever.
OC: I've been riding for roughly the same amount of time as you, Chase and I've moved away from my sport bike as my daily over the years. Those are bikes that caught my eye early on in my career and at the point I couldn't afford more than one bike, so I was willing to make compromises in comfort for enjoyment. They're like the supercars that people have in storage and drive around town on occasion to a local meet. Capable of so much more than street duty but seldom get to showcase it.

You can get a decent used gsxr 1000 2016 for pretty cheap for big boy duties and a ninja 400 as a daily. And maybe do a small fun supermoto build all under 15k, max 20k. 20k is too much to drop on one bike for a beginner (1-5yrs) in my opinion. Getting those super expensive brand new super sports or advs early on means you've tied yourself down to a garage queen. Getting experience on three different styles means you'll ride safely and learn to discern your own individual taste. I know a decent number of people who got a new tiger 1200/s1000rr with all the options early and quit riding within the first 4 months.

I love how he said this bike isn’t nimble. Have you ever been on a Harley? Or a straight naked bike if you try to cut on those it’ll get there in 1.3 light years the R1 is much more “fliky” than any other bike.
