The only thing I would add is that the Street Twin is a great tourer - it feels rock solid at 70mph on the motorway and there is loads left over for overtaking. I’m 6’2” and I can ride for 2 hours without needing a leg stretch as the seat is so comfortable. It could do with a centre stand and I would recommend the Touring FlyScreen available from Triumph if using the bike for longer journeys as it takes the edge off the wind and keeps the clock clear of rain. Thanks Andy.

I like this bike, a good solid retro, with everything you need (Including the power) and nothing you don't and all in a high quality package. When I bought a 900cc Triumph, I chose the street Scrambler over this model, simply because as a largish chap, I found the street twin a bit small and cramped in comparison. I now ride a 1200 Scrambler, but sometimes wonder whether I really needed to move up from the 900cc. range

Tmf mentioned running out of puff above 65! I think the 1st gen(pre 2019 did!). Mine is the 2019 one and keeps right on charging to 80 in no time at all, I don't go past this speed often, as the wind pressure is obviously getting too strong. I am 58 yrs old and have had plenty of bikes and this one does all I ask of it. Wouldn't mind a second bike, the kawasaki 650 looks great. But would have to save up as I won't trade my St twin! It's a keeper. A big thanks to the flyer, for his vids. Merry Christmas to all. 🎅🏍️

Got a 69 plate Street Twin and love it. I've had a few bikes but particularly love this one. I was initially disappointed by a Triumph dealer who told me that I really needed a Tiger 800 and not a 'toy' bike. That comment has stuck with me but I absolutely love the ST!!!

I just got a 2023 Speed Twin 900cc (they re-branded from Street to Speed like the 1200 big brother) in matt Ironstone and based much of my final decision on this review, and of course my demo ride which sealed the deal. It’s my first bike and I’m very pleased with it! The bike as stock looks fantastic but I will be getting bar-end mirrors, tail tidy and maybe a center stand for chain maintenance. I’m 6 foot 1 and find the bike very comfortable.

Great review there Andy. I have had my Street Twin for 20k miles (4 years). I changed out the mirrors for bar ends which look great. I am 6"2 and after a while found the seat a little bit low so I got the option bench seat which is sort of halfway padded between stock and the Speed Twin (you are right the latterr is less comfy!) . I don't hypermile but I have done a 6 day tour of the south west as well as day trips of 4-5 hrs in the saddle and it tours just fine - Kriega tail packs fit it fine and Sw-Motech have some great soft pannier options. The lack of wind protection can get tiring, but as i say I have toured without too much issue (not v long days). I am never keen on motorways and I have probably only done a couple of hundred miles on them and I didn't like it. In terms of "puff" you are right that the acceleration is less impressive over 60 so higher speed overtakes need more planning. THe suspension can get out of shape if you "push" too hard on bumpy country lanes too :)

Great review, my bro in law has the std one. He told me that he was frustrated about not being able to change his brake fluid it being abs. You can do change your own brake fluid on the these. All you do is bleed as you do normal brakes, replacing fluid, then take it out and activate the abs to get the pump to kick in and push the old fluid through the pump even if it’s a closed system. (You can buy a tool you plug in to activate the pump when bleeding/changing the fluid)Then re bleed your brakes again and away you go. He paid £550 quid for a service. He hates having service lights coming on and can’t take them off unless he forks out for a dealer tool to remove spanner icon or a light. When you get the Triumph dealer tool you have to register it with Triumph and send off for a special key. Which seems to be a real hassle. I know that Triumph don’t want you to service your own bike probably so they can make more money. Having a bike to me is all about doing your own maintenance and repairs. It’s time manufacturers sold bikes that you can do everything on. To get around this you’d have to buy a vintage bike which seems ridiculous. His Bike cost him £7,200 new just over a year old now. He’s got 25k on the clock already.Bike prices have jumped up somewhat. Thanks again for the review Andy, much appreciated.

You've hit on why I will not buy a new bike - proprietary software, dealer computer and key/license required, "no user serviceable parts inside." Manufacturers claim liability/warranty issues are the reason, but yeah, it's $$$$ (or ££££). I service my own bikes, and something as simple as bleeding brakes or turning off an idiot light should not require making an appointment with the dealer. However, I also realize I'm in the minority. Triumph can take other people's money. I'll spend mine keeping the old ones going.

Retro-modern done right. I actually think I'd prefer the Street to the Speed Twin... I think it sounds smoother, gets better fuel econ, and lower fuel consumption and insurance. The T100 sounds the best of the range to me with the stock pea shooter pipes. Go for an extra ride on behalf of us Canadians buried in snow, eh!

@@TheMissendenFlyer Aren't both Street and Speed Twins 476 lbs wet? The T100 is heavier though. Anyways, still would take the sound and lower running costs -- can't really use the extra power much where I live and feels a bit more "retro" anyhow 😎 I like the range of well-integrated accessories Triumph offers, as well.

I test road a Street Scrambler😎. Wow! Lovely. My frame of reference is a 2019 T120 and a 2021 BMW F900XR. I don’t regret the T120 purchase, but I could be just as pleased with either a Street Twin or a Street Scrambler. The “Street” Bonnies are not quite a arm-jerking powerful, but are a bit lighter and pleasantly flickable😎. In the end, I’d choose a 1200 Bonneville variant for touring or long distance rides but I’d get the “Street” version for around town, commuting, or back road running about on small European style roads.😘

I just sold my Harley. This is the best day of Harley ownership, the day you get rid of it. They ride like a dump truck. I am 70 years old and have been riding since 1964. I have owned many motorcycles since then, but never a Brit bike. I have been looking at the Kawasaki Vulcan S , the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, and the Triumph Speed Twin 900 (Chrome Edition). But I think I'm going to go with the Triumph. My wife always rides with me so the ride quality is very important. From the videos on all three bikes it seems the Triumph has the smoother ride. Of course I like the name Triumph better anyway. I have looked at the Bonneville T100 in the past, but now I am more interested in the Speed Twin 900. There are just a few reasons why I prefer the Speed Twin 900. One the alloy wheels so I can run tubeless tires (plus they are easier to take care of). Two the upswept exhaust means I dont't have to remove a silencer to adjust the chain or change the rear tire (I do all my own maintenace). And because I am a shorter rider the lower seat height will be nice. But the main reason is because of the soft ride. I don't ride like I did when I was 20 years old and I don't need the stiffer ride to corner fast any more. I'm OLD and slow and just want to enjoy the journey. I've always like the Bonnevilles with their twin clocks, spoked wheels and peashooter exhaust, but the Speed Twin 900 Chrome Edition is for me. Thank you for the video. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.

Another couple of bikes I would put in this category would be the Moto Guzzi V7 and the Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer and Bobber bikes. Love the look of the Roamer. I'm thinking about getting one of the above, or a Street Twin in the spring. Not sure which yet. I need to do a bit more research and, hopefully, test rides. A review from you would be good if you can get a ride on one. There's a dealership in Maidenhead ( not far from you ) + I think some of the HD dealers are stocking them. No pressure!!

I had a 2016 Street Twin, for 3 years & 24000 miles. Great bike for me, experienced rider with shorter status....! It needed input for bends & it wallowed a bit when pushing it. But I fitted TEC front forksprings & TEC gas rear springs, made a huge difference. Also changed tyres to Road Attack 3. Changed to a Speed Twin, but I do miss the Street, & may trade back to one. I dunno, it seemed to fit & suited me better.....

The Street Twin does look superb in the Gold Line livery. I considered one but went for the Street Scrambler Sandstorm as I love the Steve McQueen vibe and the ergonomics are perfect for me at 5'10". Also the scrambler exhaust note is utterly intoxicating. The engine is an absolute peach for day to day use. Anyone judging this bike purely on the spec sheet will never understand just how good it is. The mirrors and clock are definitely Marmite. I like the simplicity on the 900 models. My previous bike was the Thruxton R and I wasn't a fan of the bar end mirrors. The Thruxton was a potential licence-killer but the Street Scrambler is a big fun grin-machine!

Great review of the bike Andy. I've got a Street Twin as a second bike which is great for country roads. It excels at 50-65mph, which seems to be the sweet spot for the engine. It has enough power, and won't be a licence loser. At 5' 10" (with long legs) I find the seat height a tad low, but manageable. I fitted the Vance and Hines pipes and upgraded the rear shocks to the Triumph Fox suspension, which are great modifications. A word of warning though, the suspension upgrade is considered a 'performance' modification (yep, on a 64bhp retro, not exactly a sports bike) therefore I always have issues with the insurance quotes, as they need to double check with the underwriters, so I'm unable to get online quotes. I would recommend this bike for new and experienced riders, as long as they aren't over 6'.

I just did a long test drive on such a machine. Very impressed! The engine pulls from just above idle without complaining the least. Suspension comfort and control are excellent. Fuel consumption 3,6liters/100km. 3850 RPM at 120 km/h in the 5th and tallest gear. The 5 speed gearbox is an excellent choice for this bike! The steps between the gears are comparably large, but no problem for this high torque engine! The seat wasn't so good for me: I was sliding forwards, and the seating position felt a bit too low compared to the foot pegs. Not comfortable. Great looking bike with lots of great qualities!

It took me 3 years to max out the throttle, Ill take the 5th on where, when and how fast. It’s got lots of get up and go at any sort of lawful speed on the highway. It's a lovely looking bike, with a matching sound track to boot. As are most of the Trumpet range to be fair. I just spent 2 happy Saturday's in a row, getting all touchy-feely with the whole range at my local dealership, therapy you understand. The guys there were very understanding and let me paw just about everything that had handlebars, even let me wheel/ duck paddle a few around the showroom so I could get a feel for weight, turning circle etc. The build quality was superb on all of the machines I looked at. I was initially interested in a Speed Twin, but as a taller lad, I couldn't believe how small and cramped I felt on everything I sat on. Have bikes shrank in the wash in recent years? In the end, thanks to yourself and John reminding me of my team green childhood aspirations, I opted for the 2022 Z900RS, in Kwak blue, cue 70s disco. It's a smidge larger physically, well taller at least, but definitely "feels" a bit more roomy to me. The build quality, fit and finish on the one I sat on was outstanding, the sound was just divine. For me at least, I think I made the right choice. When my wife asks me how much it cost, as she inevitably will, I'll be blaming you and John for talking me into it! @@TheMissendenFlyer This is spot on from Andy. I have ridden my Street Twin for 20k miles and it does lack acceleration over about 60 ish. It will happily pull over 60 and cruise at 70/80 and go (a bit) faster but overtaking has to be very carefully planned if the car in front is doing 60. It doesnt need a massive long straight but it doesn't have that insta-overtake done in 2 seconds like other bikes do.

Dealers tend to put too much air in the tyres. I find that just 2psi less than spec (front and rear) transforms the ride quality. My 2021 T100 feels great on anything other than the worst road surface. Not the magic carpet ride of my 1150RT but certainly much better than the NC750S I've had before. True, the rear shocks do lack a little damping when you push on - but just one notch of preload has reduced the bouncyness (if that's a word) significantly. We ride two up most of the time and find the suspension more than adequate overall. The Fox branded upgraded shocks are supposed to be excellent but way too expensive.

I enjoyed riding the street twin when I borrowed one. It felt light and grunty and fun. The only down side is it felt like it was really beginning to run out of puff above 65. This surprised me as I owned a 2001 790cc bonneville for years and the engine in that was really strong, with good power up to 80 and able to cruise (on one of those private roads) at 110 comfortably... Maybe modern emissions has stifled modern engines or my rose tinted glasses are at full charge...

  • @PhilipBallGarry

    @PhilipBallGarry

    2 жыл бұрын

That's strange. Only because my 2021 T100 (euro 5) pulls strongly way past 80mph (private road 😉). Overtakes are easy with so much torque. I think the increase in power to 64bhp has helped a great deal according to those who bought the earlier 54 bhp T100. True, these engines do lose puff beyond 5k rpm and cruising at high speed on motorways isn't their best environment. I try to avoid motorway riding these days anyway unless I'm using them to stitch together some nicer twisty roads. But the 900cc HT engines are in no way out of their comfort zone if you have to. 75mph gives an indicated 4k rpm in 5th (top) and it'll sit quite happily there until your neck muscles tire and you realise you've bought a naked bike 😉. I did try the T120 black when they first came out and the sixth gear and extra grunt was useful but entirely unnecessary for my style of riding these days. Also the twin front disc set up made it much slower to turn in with the extra weight and gyroscopic effect. If you're in the market for a Triumph Twin though I recommend road testing both the 900 and 1200 versions before making a choice though 😊👍

@@PhilipBallGarry you need to forget lowered seats. I have a 28” inside leg and currently ride a 2018 R1250GS with a standard seat having just replaced my Ducati Multistrada 1200s which I used to ride with a standard seat in it highest position. The problem is lowered seats splay your legs more, making your reach to the ground worse than with a standard seat. You need to try lots of bikes, what I find most important is where the centre of gravity is and how narrow the seat is rather than how tall it is. Just to add I also has a 2019 Speed Twin and yes it was low but it’s a fairly heavy old beast. Happy riding.

They make them in same sizes and with the odd configuration of radial rear (150/70/R17) and bias front (100/90/18) that Street Twin uses (although you can fit radial front and back as well - I have done)

I put Continental Road Attack 3 on mine, radials front and back. Also Hagon shocks and progressive springs, what a massive improvement all round.

Another excellent review. Are the jeans single layer? I've had my 2016 Street Twin since 2019 and have made a few changes to it. It's just like a real '80s bike, half the OE equipment is useless and has to be replaced! It came used with bar end mirrors and LED indicators. In case it's of interest to your readers, I've done the following: Replaced the original 2-pot Nissin with the 4-pot Brembo that Triumph now fit as standard and a 320mm disc Hagon rear shocks and progressive fork springs + new oil have transformed the suspension Ghastly Pirelli tyres replaced with Contintental Road Attack 3 radials front and back - probably the best single change you can make for the money, what a difference. Motone tail tidy + LED rear light. Triumph bench seat. Dart Marlin fly screen. Tec Rebel 2-1 exhaust. Just about sorted now, so maybe I need to think about changing it!

Yes those Jeans are single layer - which is what makes the AAA rating more impressive....and sounds like you've been busy on your Speedy!

Lovely looking small retro. If that's your thing. The Triumph range customer catalogue probably resembles a phone book. I'd have no idea of all the models without your help TMF. Lookin sharp ya old tart in that winter gear! Quality apparel.

I spend almost 3 hours to remove all the blue spots everywhere on the bike during the assembly process / check. On a black / grey bike like the Street Cup, all those blue spots are annoying to the eye I think. Great bike btw a little bit more powerful than the previous iteration.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Hi Andy... I'm sorry, by "blue spots" I mean "blue dots", it's more a "dot" than a "spot" ! :-) If you look carefully on the bike, you'll see those little blue dots here and there. They are little check marks made at the factory during the assembly process. In your video at 4:50 you can see one of those blue mark near the oil cap. Another near the VIN engraved in the case and another on top of the radiator... etc

Gold Lines ... look is good but how about Modern Tech integrated for save riding ? The Kawasaki W800 is an over- priced old-fashioned bike with no Tech except ABS. Is this bike better ? Dies it have an Gas-Indicator (hate running low on Gasoline), what about Engine shaking ??? What about Engine heat ? Thank you.

Great review as ever. My wife is looking for a change from her (lowered) SV650 but is so limited as to what she can ride at 5'2" and as a petite person struggles with the weight of the larger cruisers. She sat on a Street Triple R Low and the height and weight is fine but the reach of the bars is too much. Looks like the Street Twin could be one to try.
