I recently purchased the 2021 Venza, I love it! It does have some issues that you don't realize until you've driven it in various weather conditions. For instance, snow, I was not 10 minutes into my morning commute and my front sensors (apparently covered in debris) went off and went off and off again the entire drive to work, this was annoying. With a lot of exploration I was able to find an off button for the front sensors for my commute home, however you then have to remember that once you cleaned off the sensors, to turn them back on again. Second, my commute home was a nail biter, the slope or the stream line effect of the headlights collects snow, the snow sat on the headlights preventing me from seeing in the dark, wow that was not a good experience! I will try to apply a rain-ex or something similar to the headlights before I drive at night in the snow again but I don't think this was something they considered. I opted for the limited trim with HUD, this also gave me rain sensing wipers which I find to be standard on other manufactures lesser expensive trim packages so for as much as I prefer them, you should not have to go up to limited to obtain them. I also went with the star-gazer panoramic roof, could you live without it? Definitely, since there is no opening in the roof only the passengers enjoy this option. As I mention HUD, fantastic feature, I don't look at my instrumentation panels anymore this is a great safety feature. The JBL sound system is phenomenal, the softex interior is stylish and extremely comfortable . This is a very roomy and well thought-out cabin with plenty of headroom and rear cargo space. This is my first hybrid and I do need to get use to some of the noises this vehicle makes, the upside to this is that you don't hear anything inside the car, it's so quiet and handles potholes (Pennsylvania people) like a champ. So much value for your money, I highly recommend.

It's too bad about the headlight obstructing. Sometimes technology gets in the way of safety. LED lights don't produce any heat. So unlike traditional headlights that melt ice and snow from the lights, these LED headlights require frequent cleaning while it's snowing. Perhaps the automakers should add heat strips to the headlights to compensate. It could run on the same circuit as the rear window defrost. Push one button, and you get heated mirrors, rear defrost, heated headlights, and heated radar all in one.

We test drove many suv's after the wife Escape Titanium got totaled. We drove a BMW X1, MB GLC300, Cadillac XT4, GMC Terrain Denali, Highlander, Rav4 gas, Rav4 Hybrid. Then saw the new Venza and got to test drive one Saturday. Just to note up until this time we had decided on the Rav4 hybrid. It drove very well and seemed quite nice. Well in the end after driving a Venza we ordered a Coastal Gray Limited which will arrive in October. Looking forward to it. Great review, I think your spot on all your points. Even the lumbar issue, but small negative. Does not even come close to negating the vehicle in anyway.

You really do an excellent review. And i agree totally with ypu about the passenger seat. Why shortchange the passenger? On a long trip (and this SUV would be ideal for that!) Good review Lauren! As for the lumbar, I don't even need it on the drivers side, so no big deal on passenger side. As for the gap between the tires OD and the wheel wells, I disagree. I live in a snowy area and that gap packs up with snow fast. For me larger would be better.

I love how it looks and drives. I drove to the Toyota dealer to test drive. I drove my 2016 Prius V into the parking lot. I looked at my mpg gauge which indicated that I averaged 61.7 mpg for this trip. I didn’t stopped and returned home. I usually average between 45-55 mpg; so for now I’m keeping it. But I’ve driven the new car and it’s a beauty; better than my Prius. But my Prius is paid off.

Bought the Limited. Very happy. My wife’s physical therapist told her that a sedan (we had a Ford Fusion Platinum - a wonderful $ 41,000 car), was part of her problem. As age related issues happen, exiting sedans cause pain. The therapist recommended an SUV or van. The Venza has great in and exit access, and has eliminated her pain.

Some people say the Venza’s roof slopes too much, decreasing visibility.) Terrific review, by the way.

I'm considering ditching my last convertible (2018 BMW 430l xdrive) for this; it's hard in my late 60s to stop driving fun cars for something I know is more practical and efficient. I'd probably go for the XLE version; I'm not a fan of the capacitive controls and don't care about the fixed albeit jazzy moon roof -- and if I'm reading the Toyota configurator right, the latter precludes roof rails and cross bars. The only reason I'd spring for the Limited is the rearview mirror-cum-camera; I agree with you that this is a useful safety feature. Anyway, many thanks again for another sterling review of what looks like a great product.

The Acura requires premium fuel and Venza doesn't and the mpg is definitely better in the Venza . Also, the Venza has all the accessaries and tech package that I'm looking for and it cost less. I hoping to buy a Venza in December. The Venza is 100% made in Japan.

Are passengers not supposed to be comfortable; and really how much would it add to the price to give that seat the same functionality as the driver? Price difference is not that big between them right now. I test drove both and I thought they were somewhat comparable. Any recommendations?

Great report. I share your disdain for not putting a lumbar support on the passenger side front seat. Why go cheap when they thought of everything else? Great report. Personally I don't like the rear turn signals on the rear bumper. Hopefully they'll put them up with the brake lights where they are easy to see.

We’ve noticed that is some new style with certain brands including KIA where they’re putting the turn signal in the bumper and not with the brake light. It may be great for style but it’s not good for communicating with other drivers. I’ll keep pushing manufactures to add lumbar. They’re starting to listen

Good review. I will be in the market for something in 1 to 2 years and I plan to go hybrid. As of now it comes down to the Venza or the Highlander. The Highlander offers more room and I like the look of it a little better. But the tradeoff is the higher price tag and less fuel economy. The Venza is stylish tho and looks like a fun vehicle to drive. Will test drive both and see what I think. Keeping an open mind.

You stated that the AWD is driven off the battery (no mechanical connection). What happens if the battery is drained does AWD stop working? When driving in Tahoe snow storms you can easily creep along for hours on snowy roads. I realize the battery may be getting charged as well by the running gas engine but how long can the gas engine drive the car and charge the battery if you are in the snow moving for hours. Any input from Toyota on that?

I have the 2013 Venza V6 Limited, with chrome where all the dark parts are, including the grill. I love it, take care of it and it drives great. It has under 58k mi. Seems like the new Hybrid Venza is much smaller, so even though it’s fancier, I’m still stuck on mine for now. Maybe if they make a non-hybrid V6 I’d consider it. The headlights on the 2020 look rather small so I wonder how it overall rates for night driving.

Have a 2013 Toyota Venza and was hoping Toyota wouldn’t make the new one much higher. Test drove the XLE model, very smooth, quiet drive and handled really well for our short road test. I am 5’4” and very large. Getting in I had to duck and the seats are more like the RAV4’s. Also disappointed as the driver seat seemed higher and could not lower or pitch front of seat like with the older Venza. Important to me. Also very very disappointed that the passengers seat doesn’t have the same lumbar plus features like the drivers. Bad idea! Also the lights on the bumper isn’t very ideal. How did that pass? Maybe because it’s made in Japan is why they don’t think of these things. The side mirrors stick out too much as on the older Venza’s they are more aerodynamic. Visors do have an extra slide out to block light but really not needed how they are placed. Really needed them to keep us physically challenged older short folks in mind. Do you think someone will offer an aftermarket luxury passenger seat?

Does the Venza offer back seat heat, windshield de-icer, fog lights? I know they have it on the RAV4. Also, do the side mirrors dim at night when lights from other vehicles hit it? Well, coming from a Kia product to my first Toyota (had a 2006 Lexus GS 300) and owning this exact Venza limited for 4 weeks there are a number of things I wish I would have spent more time in analyzing. First, on highways, this thing is loud. Tire and wind noise are prominent. My 4 year old Kia Cadenza was much quieter. Secondly, there is little to no storage in the front area. Yes there are 2 cup holders but the storage bin is deep with no shelf. I had to buy a aftermarket bin on Amazon for my sunglasses because there is no holder for that. Third, the carpet used in the Venza is thin and feels cheap compared to my old Kia. Four, after driving the Venza for a while you notice that the upper door area is flimsy. This could also be said about the center console, which moves cheaply. Five, the upper dash area facing the driver is soft touch but only about 3 inches. Behind that is hard plastic. Six, the back windows on both sides are not stable in the window channels and can be pushed up slightly by using your hand (this will be a service issue with the dealer) , seven, the hands free tailgate works 1/3 of the time and is stupid compared to the easiness of the Korean brands where you walk up to it with the key fob, it beeps 3 times and opens(probably another service issue), lastly and this is my fault, I thought I would get used to a non opening sunroof but the panoramic roof in my Kia was a godsend. This fixed panel roof that changes light is a $1300.00 gimmick that lasts the 3rd. Time you use it. Do I have buyers remorse? I’d say yes especially with a MSRP of over $43,000 American. The mileage is outstanding, it looks sporty and drives well. The tech is a step behind the Kia especially the screen resolution which is 5 years behind most carmakers. After owning the Venza, I’d say it’s 5-8 thousand over priced for the limited. It’s a lease so I’m only tied to it for 36 months.

Two reason why the Venza cannot be the SUV of the year. 1) It has no towing capability whatsoever. 2) The moonroof deletes the roof rack. Other than those two shortcomings, it's very impressive in terms of quality, comfort, safety, efficiency, dependability, and capability. I just bought a Limited trim Venza myself and am having lots of fun with the technology. I traded out of a Camaro, so there's no way I'll ever tell you it's fun to drive.
