Owned both .. I had a 2016 current gen Tacoma TRD Off Road (loaded) and a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon (loaded) so while I don't have the Mojave I can speak for Gladiator. So loaded option to loaded option. The Jeep has a way nicer interior, JBL system Toyota to Jeep Alpine. Alpine for the win both in sound and features. Seating is better in the Jeep, your not on the floor and there is more room in the back seat than Tacoma. Gas mileage - Toyota for the win here. It's not a HUGE difference but the Gladiator is more thirsty. Engine - Jeep. It has way better low end torque which could be because it has an extra two gears in automatic transmission. Stats show Tacoma is a bit quicker in 1/4 mile but I can tell ya 0-40 Gladiator will walk it. The Toyota 3.5 lacked low end torque that the pervious generation 4.0L that was in my FJ and step dads Tacoma had. Transmission: Jeep ..two extra gears and a real biggy it isn't always searching for a gear. Off Road : Both are good really good....Rubicon is better but it should be its got a locker in rear and front plus electric sway bar disconnects and a crawler transfer case. Compared to Mojave (I don't own a Mojave) but both have rear lockers and normal transfer case but I would still give it to Jeep. Mojave has a straight axle up front for better articulation bigger tires and where Jeep really shines and where Toyota annoys me is stock tires. Jeeps come with decent tires every Toyota off road truck I've ever owned came with one step above a car tire and that was all off road packages on those trucks. On road: Toyota; That's the trade off of a straight axle front end it will drift a bit more than IFS. 2020 Gladiators where notorious for drifting at highway speeds due to an aluminum steering box the 2021 is steel MUCH better and for a buddy of mine the dealer swapped his for new one at no charge. Truck stuff: I think Gladiator tows and halls a bit more than Tacoma. The bed wall height is deeper on Tacoma so you can "stack more" the Gladiator reminds me of older Toyota pickups with a pretty shallow bed depth. I like both trucks. I like the retro vibe of the Gladiator and love its looks and for fun factor take half the roof off or all of it. Take the doors off :) BUT For a "normal modern looking truck" I think Tacoma is the best looking out there and that includes even the full size trucks. The Jeep again loaded top of the line model vs Tacoma top of the line ....Jeep it's just nicer, but then again it should be it will cost ya about an extra $12,000.

I also considered the Mojave (very nice!) but for up here in Colorado (mountain passes, trails and snowstorms/blizzards), I got the Gladiator Rubicon instead (V6 gas/automatic transmission). Had NO interest in the manual transmission, partly because a manual Gladiator can only tow 4000lbs (too little for my needs), whereas the auto Gladiator can tow 7000lbs. Were I still living in West TX (El Paso), however, I'd probably go Mojave (even though unlike the Rubicon, it doesn't have a front locker/detachable sway-bar). I DO visit El Paso 1-2 times a year, and will be taking my Rubicon out in the desert anyway. I don't expect any issues. ;-) -- BR

@@billredding2000 The manual Mojave can tow 4500 lbs. per Jeep’s website. The automatic Sport S Equipped with Max Tow actually tows the most followed by the Automatic Rubicon. Certainly not trying to be an ass, just making sure people get the correct towing capacity before purchasing.

  • @billredding2000

    @billredding2000

@@resistthesystem6145 @Resist: No, you're not an ass at all, and if I was mistaken, I apologize & stand corrected -- thanks. :-) I guess since the ONLY 2 choices for me re: 2021 Jeep Gladiators were the Rubicon and Mojave, period. So I focused on them. Yes, I knew the Sport S with the Max Tow Package can tow 7600lbs, but since I'd never GET a lower-trim Gladiator (or the most expensive /less-capable one -- the High Altitude), the Sport, Sport S, Overland, etc. were off my Gladiator Short List right up front. IIRC though, the Gladiator Rubicon can only two 4000lbs IF it has the 6-speed manual transmission...so THAT version of the Rubicon was out, too -- for me, only one that had the 8-speed automatic would do, and as it can tow 7,000lbs, that's a good deal MORE than I needed (5,000lbs was minimum). And it' sonly 600lbs less than the Sprt S with Max Tow -- insignificant really. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 can tow 5000lbst, one reason I was going to get (Plan A) a ZR2 over a Jeep Wrangler, Ford "vaporware" Bronco -- 3500lbs max capacity was too little. Pathetic: The largest U-Haul trailer (their 6x12 cargo) weighs something like 1980 lbs EMPTY! Hardly any capacity left for a tow-vehicle with a 3500lbs towing-capacity limit. :-( Anyway, I didn't know the Mojave w/ manual transmission could tow 500lbs more than the Rubicon also with the manual. I know the Mojave's rear (final drive) differential has different gearing (1/2 the ratio?) than the Rubicon though, and that makes a difference re: towing capacity. Still, if I had gotten the Mojave with the automatic transmission -- IIRC it will tow 6000lbs -- that would have been fine for me, too. As mentioned earlier, however, up here in Colorado a Rubicon seemed the more appropriate choice -- for me. Happy trails, -- BR

TRD Pro all day. I owned a 2012 JKU and the left cylinder head blew at 9,000 miles. Sold my 2019 JLU which had a glitchy radio, windshield that cracked when I turned on the defroster in my driveway, and rattled like a can of spray paint. Bad welds, death wobbling front ends, bad clutch pressure plates, blown engines.... I just can't risk Fiat/Chrysler quality any more. Absolutely love my lunar rock 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro. Far superior truck.

Just traded in a 2019 Ram Laramie for a 2021 Mojave. I’m 5’9” and have no problem with the seat , and really don’t care that it’s not power seats. Love the way it looks and drives. In my opinion the ride is not bad on road. The only thing is maybe the wind noice , but it’s a Jeep that you can pull the doors and top off of. Like the Tacoma but love the Mojave

Reason the jeep lacks power seats is because the entire interior is waterproof, they could not seal the systems that run the power seats, hence why it's not an option. The jeep is designed to be flooded on the inside, it has drain plugs under the floor mats.

I drove a 2019 TRD and didn't like it at all. The only comparison i had at the time was to my old 1987 Toyota Hilux and my 2000 Tacoma. Both of those just ran more solid. The TRD seemed flimsy and I had several body parts screws comes loose and rattle. The crawl mode made a horrible metal grinding sound when engaged. The metal on the body is pathetically thin where if you lean into it, it can badonk inward. Also the A/C grew weak quickly and the engine would over heat if i idled for a short while with the A/C running. Prior to that i was a lifelong Toyota fan. Not anymore. I feel like Toyota has increasingly geared their truck builds to suit more urban lifestyles. I hated that truck and would tell anyone that would listen. I now own a Gladiator Mojave😊... A real man's truck made of real solid steel like Grandpa's truck.

I enjoyed your video and I drive a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. I think you might have liked your Jeep experience a bit more if you would have been in 4L as the Mojave is made for deep sand and snow is also no problem. Due to the different ratios in the driveline, you can drive the Mojave up to 50 mph in 4L, unlike the Rubicon. The vibration was likely a combination of being in 4H vs 4L. Also the automatic is superb and I would definitely opt for it over the manual. If you get the chance try your drive again with an automatic and drop the tire pressure to 16 psi and put 'er in 4L. Then hold on as it will be a completely different experience. Very Respectfully, Gary

Had he been in 4L the chances of stalling are slim to none! Remember the Gladiator has hill start assist, as well as an e-brake. Don’t be afraid to apply a little e-brake to prevent lost momentum and/or clutch burn; once the truck is moving in the desired direction simply release the e-brake and you’re good to go! I own the 6MT and openly admit the ZF auto is the better overall choice; however, I love shifting gears!

Got a new Tacoma . Use it 90% for off road use. Mostly high speed stuff. I also like the reliable Toyota engine transmission and IFS for high speed stuff. But , if you do get a Tacoma be aware that you need to spend more $ to fit real tires (35”+) and you need to weld on more reinforcements (upper arm pivots , spindle , and lower control arm subframe ). Also you need to buy an aftermarket front locker. Also also , a re gear ⚙️ of both the front and rear differentials is absolutely necessary for a Tacoma ($3,500). Also also also , might need to carry a spare steering rack or upgrade to a full-size rack and pinion. However, After you spend 1 trillion dollars in mods , the taco will handle way better than the solid front axle jeep . But … it’s gonna be a lot of extra money in mods 😢. I guess if you did a IFS long travel swap on the jeep it would also be sweet. But nothing can fix that floppy front jeep axle. Terrible through the woops. IFS on rocks is fun too. Won’t rock the entire cab after coming off a boulder 🪨. If you don’t want to spend any extra money , then get a heep. I mean jeep.

@12:07 is NOT a drive train lock. That button clearly states "OFF", and you can't engage the rear locker in 4Hi w/out holding the traction-control button for 5sec. @15:45 offroad+ will NOT make it stall; quite the opposite b/c it turns OFF traction control. @17:17 that vibrating is the ESC ... you clearly did NOT read the manual on the different traction control settings. You are spreading tons of mis-information.

If you look at both you might say some things are better on the Jeep. But the whole point of a Toyota is when that Jeep is in the junkyard the Toy will still be rolling on its original drive train if both were maintained equally. That is the difference! So if you plan on keeping your Jeep for 20 to 30years, better get the Tacoma. And the Gladiator is just plain ugly too me anyway.Different strokes for different folks lol.

@@SamCarLegionI off road whenever i get the chance. I have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon built for harder trails. i also had a Tacoma for overland but wasn't as good as i expected so i sold it. The Wrangler was right up there with the Tacoma in ride quality but had no chance when it came to technical off road trails. For me the Gladiator Rubicon would be perfect to fill that gab between a wrangler and a pickup.

My Mojave has smoked both a Raptor and the TRD Pro....however I live in a desert and that's what it's built for.....we get snow here but nothing like Canada, but the snow we do get I had zero issues getting down the road, I didn't even have to lower the tire pressures.....if you are just doing the standard over landing trails the Mojave buries everyone (in my experiences so far at least) but the TRD Pro is no punk.....very capable truck.....but in my eyes the Mojave is superior

Interior space wise by square feet, the Gladiator is class leading in cab space, it's more so the brackets for the front seats are not very long so you can't push them farther back, they make aftermarket rails to fix this.

TFL has tested the Rubicon and they complained about seating 💺 which is ironic because so many complain about Tacoma poor seating. TFL also complained about the windshield defroster and not being able to defrost the windshield very well in heavy snow conditions. Just yesterday I watched MATS OFF ROAD RECOVERY and a JEEP RUBICON had a failed engine. If you saw where it failed and the rescue...you will nearly 💩💩💩 your pants. I had a 13 Tacoma TRD SPORT. Toyota is the king of reliability. JEEP will get you there but Toyota will also get you home. Tacoma is number one...1...in value retention. When you sell...you get top dollar. I upgraded last year to a TUNDRA TRD OFF ROAD. Toyota trucks are legendary.

"King of reliablity" I feel as if the thousands of early 2000s Tacoma's that had their frames rust so bad they bent in half on a lift begs to differ. Toyota has problems, they have and still do like any auto maker, I get the dipshit cult around them just like the Cummins rams, but don't just follow the crowd man, look up a little bit.

@@deepbludreams The frames do rot but if you use Krown Rust or equivalent and a good car wash with under carriage blast, the frames will be almost like new. I know this from my own experience. Other trucks rust as well if you don't take care. I have seen big 3 trucks with serious frame rot and body rot as well.
