the switch housings used to be chrome they were chrome on my roadking classic but I had the leather hard bags 2009 with the 96 I've had a deluxe cvo an ultra cvo and now I have the 2020 cvo roadglide and to tell you the truth the road king is my favorite but you never no until you have the different models could have saved alot of money too

I got a Road King, but it's a '99 model...one of my favorite bikes...just the basics, no frills, you, the bike & the road...love it...

I feel the same way as far as having fairings with video screens and controls all over them. I like a bike that provides the motorcycle experience and not feel like an RV on two wheels. My Harley doesn't even have a windscreen. I love the color of that Road King, gorgeous!

It was down to a 21’ Road Glide or the Road King and I’m gonna go with the Road King simply because of the aesthetics and the openness. The RK years/decades down the road won’t be as outdated as a RG/SG (new infotainment system, fairing style, etc) while the RK will still maintain that classic Harley look. Plan on picking up the Billiard Red RK within the next few months

That billiard Red is absolutely CRAZY looking! That was my second choice. Agreed, the RK will always be an iconic Harley-Davidson. People on RG/SG all blacked out will eventually come back to Chrome.

Beautiful bike! Blacked out parts are so over rated. Chrome is king! I love the idea of a Road King over a Road Glide or Road Street. The unobstructed view is so refreshing. Also... the only music I want to hear on my motorcycle is the sound of the wind and the roar of the engine.

Picked up a 2021 Road King in billiard red and it is by far one of my favorite bikes ever. It refreshing to ride a bike without an infotainment center, I find myself being more engaged in the ride and not being distracted by all the crap. Good luck with your new bike

I just traded in my Road Glide for a New 21' King. Best choice I have ever made when it comes to buying a bike. I got the two tone and man I love it. People thought I was nuts to go from a glide to a King, but they will be back just as I am, and you are.

I did same from 2020 Road Glide to newish 2018 Road King (1000) miles on her, I agree totally with your comments. Great video.

I rode all three touring models and decided on my 2019 Road King for the exact same reasons you did. The fairings are nice on the highway but there is something raw about the Road King that's exhilarating. I've subscribed and looking forward to your next videos.

Beautiful bike, congratulations. I hired a street glide for 14 days and then bought the 2020 Road King standard and I love it. The 107 engine is, in my opinion, the better of the two, with much stronger low down torque.

Agreed on the 107 torque. They reduced the vibration by 75% too.

I just watched this video yesterday. Fell in love with the bike immediately. This AM I looked at my dealers inventory and they had exact same bike in stock. Went there and bought it. So excited to pick it up tomorrow or Friday. Thanks for the great video!!

I hear you in the chrome. I have a ‘19 heritage and it’s the same blacked out look. It’s okay but I find I add chrome. The engine guards , the sissy bar and rack etc. I like the bike as it’s easy to strip the bags and screen. However I am finding I like longer rides and I will be going with a road king next for the suspension , hard bags and comfort 2 up. This video helped me decide what I want in my next ride.

The nostalgia factor. Exactly how I feel about my Heritage in two tone Deadwood Green. The Road King will be my next bike! New sub!!

I do love my 2019 Road King Standard. Wind buffeting was an issue when I first got it. I have since installed the fork mounted wind deflectors that Harley offers and have no issues now. The 107 has plenty of power but I have since installed Zipper's Red Shift 468 cam. Wow what a difference!! The extra power is great for riding two-up with my wife. I know you will enjoy the Road King. Stay safe.

I ride a Road King. Love the removable windshield. For around town and trips under 2hrs. I take it off. I also have a mustang police sold seat with the air shock--Sweet! That is comfort.

I have a black and chrome. I am I. Live with the classics Old Chevys Old Ford The Road King is nostalgic! And handles very very nicely. I had 36000 on my old 88 regular oil changes and brakes tires tighten up services, never had a repair needed. Never on the side of the road. I'm hoping these new electronics and revised cable clutch proves to lead this bike to alit of performance upgrades. The M8 is UNREAL with power

Loved the video because it was my EXACT thinking when I sold my 19 Road Glide Special and bought a 20 Road King a couple of months ago. Now I know I’m not crazy for what I did. I absolutely love my Road King. It’s everything I love about Harley’s.

I love my 2015 Road King. And for the same reason. Just looks like a Harley Davidson. I love looking at the big headlight and the passing lamps. I love chrome! I love seeing the open road. 😎🤟

Enough of black bikes, i love chrome is special and luxury. I love the Road King it is simply the best of the best.

Love my 2010 King that I bought brand new and now have 85k miles on. The most beautiful feature of the bike to me is the headlight nacelle. It's just too wonderful to hide.

What a beautiful Road King! I wasn't sure about this color at first, but the more I see it the more it is growing on me. I still ride my 1998 King and thoroughly enjoy it. It is so much fun taking the windshield off on a hot summer day and cruising in the wind. I did take out a new 107 model last year but just couldn't make the deal work. It made plenty of power and even if it gives up a few HP to the 114, the bike also weighs almost 100 lbs less than the Road Glide or Ultra models. It is indeed a special feeling riding a Road King. Enjoy.

Personally I don’t like chrome, but if you want that classic Harley look, a chrome road kind was the best way you could go in my opinion. Classy for years to come👌🏼

Nothing wrong with a bit of bling, i just got the heritage in this color and put whitewalls on it. I think blacked out bikes will slowly fade and chrome will get more popular once again. Glistening in the sun, cant beat it.

I absolutely agree with all the reasons you went with this bike. I had 2010 Street Glide for 10 years. Just picked up a 2020 RK Standard in Stone Washed White Pearl. I wanted to see the road again-don't been a stereo. The 107 is plenty I find. I love this bike-Enjoy!

I bought my 2000 Roadking in ‘03, carburetor and all. It’s antiquated when compared to the new bikes and I’ve have a time over the last several years updating things to keep it rideable and comfortable. Over the last 5 to 10 years I’ve added a Harley-Davidson tour park, progressive touring shocks, a newer Mustang Royal touring seat, cams, new stock wheels, Memphis shades windshield and don’t forget about the new brakes and other expensive necessary things. I say this because I actually had the first Tour glide ultra here in ‘89 and after all my years of riding, I still get a charge from riding my simple Roadking instead of a full dresser with head banging stereo. I’ve thought about buying a newer bike when I’m facing another expensive repair but I’m determined to ride this beautiful older bike until I can’t ride anymore. Now I did buy another bike 3 years ago to add something different to the garage. It’s a 2000 Heritage softail, same beautiful Suede green and black paint and even a carburetor. Even has the same Harley-Davidson accessories as the Roadking installed by the previous owner. A match made in heaven just for me. So the moral of the story is that I’m delighted to see that others have realized that keeping it simple and comfortable can be a very good idea. I’ve done a hundred demo rides over the last few years and still can’t convince myself that newer is always better. I would love to have a new Roadking but then I would have to buy a tourpak, riders backrest and the heel shifter too. So I’ll admire the new bikes that the others are riding while they admire my beautiful, almost an antique original paint Roadking sitting next to theirs.

I understand what you mean about blacked out bikes. I have a 2018 Iron 1200 and it is all black. I recently bought a 2022 Heritage Classic all chrome. They set next to each other now and the Classic really stands out. I also understand you about seeing the road in front of you. I traded in my 2017 Street Glide Special for the Heritage. It is so nice to look through the wind shield and see the front head light and the road. I didn't like the dark wind shield on some of the other Heritages. It blocked out what I wanted to see. The Heritage makes me feel like I'm riding a motorcycle. The Street Glide made me feel like I was in a car with a dashboard. I'm considering taking a drimal and removing some of the black off the blacked out mags on the sportster to give it some kind of shine. Like the older Nightsters had.

I rent Harley because I only ride once or twice a year and like to fly out to a state and then ride throughout the state. I rented a special and did not like the slammed suspension. The blacked out finish was nice but I like chrome so no hater here. I also agree with you that the road king doesn’t age itself out like the ones with the infotainment systems. SRK cycles on KZread said same thing

I traded my 2019 cvo road glide for the exact same bike last week. I had 20k miles on it, was needing tires, brakes and the 20k tune up, but it still brought $40k,,,so in this crazy market it was time to sell. I had a road king in 2003 and loved it. I haven't seen my front wheel in 18 years because I've had street Glides and road glides and Ultras!!! I was ready to get back to basics and I love this new bike! I miss the GPS but I bought a magnetic phone bag that I think will do the job to at least point me in the right direction. I really can't tell the difference in the 117ci and the 107!! I had a 107ci In 2017 and it was a big difference from the 103ci. I see no need to spend the money messing with it. I will say this,,,for some reason both 107ci shift better than a 114 or a 117,,don't have a clue why, but much quieter shift!!!

I love my '18 Road King. I've considered trading for an Indian Challenger because of the engine, but I can't go back to a fairing. I like the RK for the same reasons you've given.

I am a Road Glide guy but that is a beautiful roadking I love the roadking as well and I absolutely love the Chrome I am an old-school guy so of course I love the Chrome I came off of a 2014 heritage Softail classic and got the 2021 Road Glide standard the reason I got the standard and not the special is because of the Chrome... That color and all that Chrome on that road king is absolutely beautiful... The only thing I would miss would be my music I love my music when I'm going on Long rides but other than that I don't see much of a difference that in the fairing of course... Beautiful bike hope it serves you well

Lovely bikes! I'm a bit more budget conscious tho, I've had my 2010 Heritage Softail since 2012....everytime I work on it I just love it more. The aesthetic is very much in line with your views from the RK. I love the feel of flying an open cockpit plane real close to the ground. ;) happy cruising

I just bought a 2022 King special. All the way the special is just night and day and me coming off the softail family 21 lowrider s wow What I been missing with the touring bike. I will never go back to the softail I got an amazing deal. No one would even believe the deal I got. And brand new with RDS! I Can’t believe the deal I got myself. With bikes being so expensive right now!

Purchased the same bike in May 2021. Absolutely awesome! Loving the colors and the chrome. The Road King truly is The King of the Road! And it will never look dated because it already looks classic. Only complaint is the junk stock seat but I'm working on replacing it with a Saddlemen Road Sofa soon.........Safe travels!

Me too on the seat. Made a comfy bucket out ot it by installing an inflatable seat accessory and moving it forward on the seat. Works great and cheap.

If I was riding two up it would be the RK for sure. Lovely bike. At the end of the day I went with a sport glide 107 as it felt like a baby RK and perfect for solo riding with plenty of pull. Simple is great and nothing like a clear view of the fender for connecting with the road. Enjoy the RK. A beautiful machine.

I bought this exact bike 2 months ago for the same reasons you mentioned and it now has over 1600 miles on it. I've ridden the Street Glide and Road Glide, but I just love the classic look of the King. And, while I have nothing against black bikes, I prefer colors. In fact, when I walked into the dealership and they asked what I was looking for, I said, "Anything that isn't black"! When I saw this bike, I knew that was the one. And, I agree, the 107 has plenty of power, though I have done a Stage 1 on the bike and it does enhance the power a bit. Thanks for the review!

dude you had the right idea . i went on line and found a older RKC 2012 with rare paint color runs like a top . just love the bike ..two tone Midnight blue pearl and brilliant silver pearl , i can't go anywhere with out people asking me what color it is or just saying nice bike ..they think its a custom paint and its great a HD color .. i did not see any thing wrong with the black out controls . as long as they work correctly i get to keep some of that cash for gas and oil changes .. RKC rocks . i should know 50 years ridding . and that's why i stopped to watch your video . is the 2021 the basic same bike .. hell YES and for good reason .. great color dude .. stay safe stay free

Just picked up the exact same bike up here in Oregon. Moved from my ‘08 Fat Boy. I had my Fat Boy bagged out and have toured all over - 85,000 miles. My new Road King will take me cross country in June. Great job on the video! Come up to Oregon and ride!

We have screens everywhere in our lives, I like to unplug and get on my RK, no screen, nothing fancy. Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Looks nice, but the Road King would be my first choice. I don't care for all that "stuff" in front of the handlebars, and I want to say, "Congratulations!" on your new bike. It is just beautiful.

I’ve been debating my first HD for years and it’s come down to the Road King and the Electra Glide Standard. I don’t want or need any of the “special” models and the “blacked out” look was never for me, not that I love chrome either. The standard Road Glide or Street Glide would be in the mix also, but the price is pretty high and I don’t know if I want a basic radio or touchscreen. I’ve looked at the new Softail models also but the ones I would buy are just as expensive as the touring models if not more unless I went for the Standard or Low Rider S. Thanks for your opinion and it’s awesome to see someone go from a contemporary “popular” model to a model that is underrated and under appreciated. I also know the area you’re in and have been to that dealership.

Brother, appreciate the video but it sounded more like you were trying to convince yourself into loving the Road King. If you could have afforded it, I would have kept the other bike since you had reservations selling it. I bought an 09 king classoc new and have never had any hankering for a glide or Ultra. I didn't want all that crap permanently affixed to my bike. You can't strip it down like the King and still have a classy looking beast. You bought a dang nice ride and will love riding that "King". Big thumbs up on the video but just had to tell you how it sounded to me. My beast only is a 96 vs the 107's and 114's they produce today but it rumbles across the highway lanes and leaves its mark on the road. I may get another King sometime down the road BUT this beast and I have been through all kinds of riding and touring. Wish you the best romancing your new ride but I know you'll just love the rough rawness of your KING. 👍🏽🤠 7/7/23

You hit it spot on! I love the aesthetic of the bike, but at the end of the day, there are bikes I love more. I worry about the RoadKing going away in Harley’s lineup!

I had a 2007 road king and put 69k on it before I sold it with a gear cam kit installed. After that I bought a 2017 street glide special M8, I currently have 20k on it with a gear cam kit installed in 2019. My next bike will be a bike that liquid cooled, smoother shifting with no clunk, and smoother riding as well as being easier to change the darn oil and get back on the road. That 3 hole oil change stuff is for the birds. I am gonna keep my street glide for another 3 years and see if Harley goes full counter balancing and finds a way to cool these motors down. In the city and in traffic your hot even with a fan assisted oil cooler. A big primary chain rotating in oil is 1950’s/1960’s technology. I want Cadillac smoothness.

To me the stock outfit doesn't cut it. At least HID / LED lights should be standard from factory, just for safety reasons. But I agree, the RK is a timeless classic and the incarnation of a Harley-Davidson. My 2008 FLHRC is stage 2 fully customized to me liking and I'll never get rid of it. The versatility of the RK, stripped down or fully dressed up with luggage rack or tour pack, is what always gets me. Tip: go for a Garmin or TomTom GPS handlebar mounted and power it with a battery pack that you put into the windshield pouch. No permanent cluttering of the bars with cables and shit like that. Works great for me. Ride safe and enjoy your RK!

You are correct MrSoundandVision. Harley discontinued the RK Classic in 2013. They came with the leather saddlebags, wire wheels and whitewall tires. I have an '01 RK Classic. What you have Josh is a Road King Standard. It's a beauty. Thinking of buying the same bike, same color.

The sense I get from this bike is smoothness.

I love that color way . I hope they come out with a white and blue paint job. That would look even better

I purchased the same bike in July of 2021. Love the bike !! It is currently getting stage II done to it and swapping out to Carlini Pist Ape 12" bars w/ Kahuna heated grips and ready for spring of 2022 ! The absolute only thing I have had any issue with is the High Beam Indicator light. I will probably cover it with a piece of tape this spring.

Has a classic look for sure but definitely am in the camp of the black out bikes. Even the road king special is nice. I couldn’t give up my radio on the street glide

I own a 2013 Road King Classic and as my first touring bike : I luv it ....!

Love Road kings. Mine is a Road King s. The only thing that bothers me in RK classic that the cables are out. I would change the handlebar into a beefy one and hide the cables inside. Btw, you bike’s colour is marvellous 👍🏻

Beautiful motorcycle in that classic look that I like too. I just bought a new Heritage Classic but it was a tough choice between that and the Road King. Great review and beautiful part of the country to ride motorcycles for sure. Ride safe.

Gorgeous bike. I have a 2020 RK (stone washed white pearl) and a 2002 RG Limited. I find myself on the RK more and more and may sell the RG. I struggle with the updraft on the RK and currently looking to find something to minimize the updraft. How do you like the new cable clutch? I don't find any difference in my RG 114 and the RK 107. What difference I do notice is much less heat on the 107. And yes, the RK feels sooo much more nimble. Like a totally different bike.

You can get some good deflectors to cut down on that wind! Also, the split vented windshield makes a huge difference. I don’t notice the clutch cable difference at all

I always go with genuine HD parts. They look good and fit perfect the only thing is most of them are made in China. I have a 2020 Electra glide standard, but I love the road king.

"most of them are made in China" LMAO what does that mean? Sure they contain some parts that are made in China, as all bikes do, but they aren't assembled there.
