I’ve heard people knock Prince for “stealing the show” at George Harrison’s induction into the Hall of Fame, but they seem to not realize that Prince was inducted on that night as well. Incredible performance!

Prince did a great job he painted around the corners of the song and was not overly ostentatious. Love seeing Dhani Harrison the son. Was it different than the original yeah, so was the second rendition when George wanted Eric Clapton to come into the studio and work on that song. It was mastered with a blues flair and Prince did nothing wrong at all, he added some real technical play w/out destroying the ambiance of the blues backdrop that song had become known for. Loved this performance I love blues rock but Prince is a master on the guitar and showed it with respect and dignity. Great version heard this before but I really liked watching this. I own a Stratacaster but I am really on the verge of buying a Telecaster. Prince is also a performer, really see no reason to get negative on him at all. So he does not make my top 25 guitarists list because of style differences he was definitely in Elite standards when speaking of talent.

@@Lane2268 just my opinion, but go for the Tele. I have both. They are definitely different. I used to play the Strat on all gigs, but now, in my retirement, I think I prefer the Tele. Good luck.

Yeah, it was unfortunate Dhani called it gratuitous. Here's a tip for Dhani and anyone else who thought it was a bit much, don't leave a pile of unguarded meat around a lion lol. What the hell are you thinking inviting one of the world's greatest entertainers on stage?. It's Prince being Prince, the guy 3 years later rocked the Super Bowl so hard that the winning quarterback mentioned it. I believe George liked it, he was watching it from the afterlife and said "bout time somebody spruced this thing up".
@JaquelineGoodspeed

@creditorclass6513 Nooo. Primce looked at Tom Petty for the " go ahead." Tom knew what was up. Only those outside Gen X say its too much. History was being made. I believe Dhani was actually very pleased.

Also if you listen to prince solo there are a lot of nods to George Harrison and the original. I listened to the original after my first time hearing this and it's there. People who knocked Prince are just haters.
This was a show of love and respect. Prince was talking to Dahni and asked " want to see me blow their minds? This is for your dad."
The world is a poorer place without Prince and Tom Petty.

The drummer Steve Ferrone (from Average White Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) later told the New York Times that he didn't actually know Prince was going to be performing with them until Prince showed up. I guess when Ferrone went over to introduce himself, Prince told Ferrone that he already knew who he was. At the time, Ferrone figured Prince was just saying that to be polite. Later during the rehearsal, Prince apparently started playing a riff from a song Ferrone had written with Average White Band. Ferrone looked up and saw Prince watching him as he played the riff. Ferrone knew then that Prince really was familiar with him and his work.
I think that is Mark Mann playing all of the guitar fills before Prince shows up. He is nailing it as well.

Mann is a great guitarist! 😊😊
I love how Prince was making young Dhanni laugh while still performing possibly the greatest guitar solo ever.
Prince is the greatest musician of all time. He could do everything. There will never be another.
No gentle weeping there, he made that thing cry.

Prince does make his guitar weep, but not gently?!!😢😢😢
As you said the song and performers were terrific but Prince absolutely stole the last half of the show. I can't tell you how many times I've watched that video, cannot get enough of it.
Everyone is great up there but prince is on a whole other level. Only musical geniuses can do that and he's one of them.
Eric Clapton played the solo on the original. Later, Clapton was asked in interview how it felt to be the world's greatest guitarist. He replied "You'll have to ask Prince."
I read a reply elsewhere saying that at the end Prince was just handing the guitar back to George. I love that. ❤
This is one of those performances that if it wasn't caught on video, you wouldn't have believed it, just EPIC. The stage was filled with so many legends of the industry and Prince still stood out. Growing up I always knew Prince and his work, but was never a HUGE fan, but I had one guy I knew always sing his praises, like he got a commission for every one he made a fan(it was that bad). And over the years, while I'm still not a fan like he was, I came to realized how much of an amazing talent he truly was, and this performance shows that and then some.

I couldn't have said it better. I'm not a fan of Prince, but I knew he was a great creative artist. When I watched this I was mesmerized by his skill on the guitar.....one of the greatest guitar solos ever! And his showmanship, off the charts!
@creditorclass6513

I watched it because it was Prince's induction. Why should he be ashamed because George was being inducted for like the 3rd time. They're just angry that Prince made it the definitive go to version of the song. Once again they don't know Prince, a good percentage of his live covers become definitive.
He was simply The GOAT 🐐
I watch this perfomance about once a week. 😁
This is an amazing performance! I saw this when it aired. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Almost everyone on stage were inducted that year: George Harrison Jeff Lynne Prince Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Steve Winwood

Awesome!!
So right. Masterful musicians on stage, but Prince stole the show on that song. He could play ever instrument known to man pretty much and was a genius musician. He is sorely missed but his music will live on forever, just like Tom Petty and George Harrison and other late legends in the music industry.
You’re so spot on. Those other guys were putting on a great performance, but it’s kind of a droning on song, and Prince came on and just electrocuted the stage and you couldn’t take your eyes off of him!! Thx for the reaction, and also, I never really comment on stuff like this, but you have to be one of the most naturally beautiful woman I’ve ever seen!! And I loved the calm, genuine demeanor in which you reacted as it wasn’t over the top but still again, spot on. As a multiple decade Prince fan, thank you for paying homage to this gifted musician!!

First half of the song was fantastic, then a load of noise from Prince. The guy doing the fills is a better guitar player TBH.
One of the greatest solos I've ever seen, and I grew up with amazing Rock in the 80's. A mix of Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen, Prince never got the recognition for being such an amazing guitarist, but that's only because he was humble.
If you pay attention you can tell there is a certain attitude prince has while he is playing! This was because he was left off rolling stones top 100 guitarists list. This is the best way ive ever seen anyone give someone the middle finger absolutely epic! Then the guitar toss at the end and walk off like a boss just epic! I think he did a masterful job of getting his point across. Loved the reaction yall have a blessed one!
Prince stole the show ,amazing,u could see Dhani loving it ❤
More TOM PETTY…the BEST to ever do it
It's the "Pimp Walk" off stage at the end for me!!🤣
There’s a very interesting story surrounding this performance. Not only had Rolling Stone magazine failed to include Prince in their “100 Greatest Guitarists” list earlier that year, but reportedly George’s widow was against Prince’s participation in this song, as she felt it’d somehow cheapen his memory. Anyways, some of the musicians involved did everything they could to boycott practice sessions. They’d take breaks as soon as Prince showed up, etc. Supposedly at one point it got so bad that the producer intervened and asked Prince if he’d like him to do something about it. Prince just said- “Don’t worry, I got this.” What you see on video was his way of dealing with it. He OWNED that performance. Now you understand why at the end he just throws the guitar and walks off the stage. The ultimate “F YOU!”

Not one bum note... R.I.P George and Prince. Peace on earth. Love to Yanni and mom. Happy holidays.
I have one word to say: PRINCE!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💗💗💗💗💗💗
Thanks for not interrupting the song especially the solo great job
One of those performances that will never be forgotten. Prince was a legendary musician and I don't think there was a musical instrument he couldn't play. Thanks for the reaction, Maddie, it's so good to have the younger generation keeping these memories alive. Kudos.
I was a Sr in HS when Prince released "Purple Rain". The first time I heard it I was an instant fan. Saw him 2 years later in concert, one of the best shows I saw. It was also the easiest time I had finding a date. 😁
The first time I saw the video my jaw dropped and it's where I learned the Prince was truly a master of his instrument! This is my goto video whenever it comes up about Prince's ability to shred.
Prince is amazing 💜 He's like a one man army....he checks every box. It did it all and taught himself to play over 20 instruments. He was also very, very popular with the ladies:)
Prince nailed it. 100 percent
The guitar chuck and walk off is unbelievably cool.
Prince knocked it out. New found respect.
Prince does his Jimi Hendrix impression great reaction and guitars all around.
Unbelievable. Perhaps the greatest improvisational guitar solo ever
The talent that was on that stage was down right scary. LOVE IT!
If you look at Dhani's (George's son) face just before Prince's solo, he knew EXACTLY what he was going to do with his father's song. And Prince simply DESTROYED. Cant get any other blessing.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎼 .. yes Maddy .. yes on everything you said. This a legendary song and then these gents took to a higher level .... and then .. 💜💜💜 Prince stole the show. That is a common thread for 10s of thousands listeners , and it was amazing. Actually , more than amazing. TY 💜
Such an epic performance, love how Petty, Harrison and Lynne are grinning their heads off watching him! Great reaction, Maddy!
I love Prince. He absolutely killed this.
Prince performed 'While my guitar gently wails' My first Prince concert was actually in Grand Rapids 97' He's still my favorite musician of all time.
This is almost more of a tribute to Hendrix than it is to Harrison, by Prince. Great stuff
I think Harrison liked the Prince having fun with it. Best version of that song i have heard, i agree
My thougts on Prince exactly.
Prince was self taught
Nice bit of guitar with a magic trick at the end 😁
What a great tribute to this song I have seen it before they did an awesome tribute to it!
All time great lineup here at the Music Hall of Fame show! ❤ Thanks for listening to this Maddie!❤ Great song also! 😁Luv ya Maddie ❤️💛
Notice, Sir Paul McCartney was on keyboard. GeorgevHarrisons son is on the left of Petty. He looks just like his dad George. Great tribute.

Eric Clapton was once asked how it feels to be the best guitarist ever, his reply was,I don't know, ask Prince...😉
Prince was fucking amazing!
I always loved Prince, but this performance....wow. The best part is the faces of his contemporaries up there watching him. That tells the whole story. They are people who KNOW guitars and they are nearly star-struck. For me, Prince will always be the GOAT. What's really cool about that is that in no way does that detract from others like Van Halen, Clapton, Lynne or Vaughn. Prince is just amazing.
I absolutely love this version. It's AMAZING
Prince was being inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF that same night.
Another highlight of this performance was how everyone here was unfazed by Prince's performance, as they've all seen the greats over a lifetime and this was just another day at the office. But Dhani Harrison(George's son), seemed so delighted to watch him perform and seemed giddy throughout, just a cool look at perspective I suppose.
This was a phenomenal tribute and nothing more.
Not only one of the top guitarists of all time but one heck of a showman. Another great talent gone far too soon!
I'm sure George Harrison would have loved Prince's contribution! :)
Sensacional. Maravilhoso. O George Harrison teria adorado. Realmente a guitarra chorou suavemente
Thoroughly enjoyed your post not our normal interruptions thanks 🙏🌹

Beautiful
they have quickly become one of my favorite bands. They never disappoint. I'm now eagerly waiting for your reaction to October Ends ' new song!
WOW! Another home run for you !!
Prince is like a golfer that says, I'm playing through boys.
Great reaction Maddy! I think George would be happy with this tribute from other greats in the music world. Getting close to 50k!

Nice thoughtful reaction.
What really made this great was sharing it with you. Your reaction to some of Prince’s licks were priceless. BTW speaking of classic songs, PTX has just released a cover of Kissed By A Rose by Seal. There’s a visual and a live version. You won’t believe your ears.

OMG!!! I love the original, I bet they made it sound so awesome!!
The perfect group to do this song 🎉
Prince was an absolute great on guitar! I’ll give credit where credit is due. But he definitely had some issues. That was a stage of legends all playing together. I’ve watched it countless times, and I still love it.
Great song choice to react maddy
I like to describe this performance as the first part being a great steak dinner and Prince being the decadent dessert they roll out on the cart post main course.

lol love that!!
Hi Maddy! We lost our brothers Prince and Tom Petty to fentanyl poisoning. Also a corrupt music industry that pushes drugs on artists to squeeze as much as they can out of them. In 1978, Prince recorded his first album, 'For You,' playing all of the instruments on the record himself, in addition to producing and composing all of the tracks. You never use to be able to look up any Prince song on KZread because he was very protective of his copyright.
btw notice they kept him IN THE DARK on stage until his solo That was to increase the wow effect on the crowd, like "where did he come from?"
Nothing better than the original! Nice to see George's son Dhani in this group! But yeah Prince is awesome!@
Hi Maddy, as you can see George was loved by many Musicians, that sadly 2 other Musicians are gone in this video🙏

Great performers with the genius prince.
If you really watch close you can see he looks at Tom and Tom gives him the okay to do it now that's respect. And then when he's done he looks back at Tom and they wrap it up who in the guitar throw was two things one f rolling Stone and the other was here George here's your guitar
The young man to Tom Petty's left is Dhani Harrison, George Harrison's son.
Classic Prince.
Prince had a point to prove check out his performance of the question of you live you won’t be disappointed
Very moving , Cute glasses
This is a epic solo from Prince and it's very different from the original one played by Eric Clapton. EC once was asked how it feels to be the best guitarist in the world, he replied "i don't know you have to ask Prince!"
Amazing stuff. George Harrison son is playing as well. All are just great 👍. A perfect song for Tom Petty ❤
It was a tribute, to a guitarist correct? Then I think the person who this tribute was for, would have found it amazing. Also Prince didn’t rehearse with these guys, he didn’t show up for rehearsal, but he told them it would be ok, he was the lead guitarist, they specifically bought him in, so he was suppose to upstage the other guitarist, this is why he had the guitar solo at the end.
I never get tired of watching people react to this.
there is a backstory. A best list of top 50 guitarists was put out and Prince was not on it. As a group they decided to use this opportunity to showcase him in minor protest of that omission.
Someone had to take it home and it was him.
Steve Ferrone on drums is a master as well!
Prince was awesome, and Maddy's mom is Carly Simon.
his father wanted to be the best telling him you are not good enough...so that separated him with the others...so that s the result....THE BEST OF THE BEST AT ALL....and thats separates him from the rest of musical icons to this day . HE IS THE GOAT...thats why he left and threw the guitar
Great performance. Eric Clapton reprised his original recording during the English concert for George. Paisley Park is sort of Prince’s homage to 1966 -1969 psychedelic sound. Obviously Prince was fan of that era.
