I’ve heard people knock Prince for “stealing the show” at George Harrison’s induction into the Hall of Fame, but they seem to not realize that Prince was inducted on that night as well. Incredible performance!

Prince did a great job he painted around the corners of the song and was not overly ostentatious. Love seeing Dhani Harrison the son. Was it different than the original yeah, so was the second rendition when George wanted Eric Clapton to come into the studio and work on that song. It was mastered with a blues flair and Prince did nothing wrong at all, he added some real technical play w/out destroying the ambiance of the blues backdrop that song had become known for. Loved this performance I love blues rock but Prince is a master on the guitar and showed it with respect and dignity. Great version heard this before but I really liked watching this. I own a Stratacaster but I am really on the verge of buying a Telecaster. Prince is also a performer, really see no reason to get negative on him at all. So he does not make my top 25 guitarists list because of style differences he was definitely in Elite standards when speaking of talent.

@@Lane2268 just my opinion, but go for the Tele. I have both. They are definitely different. I used to play the Strat on all gigs, but now, in my retirement, I think I prefer the Tele. Good luck.

Yeah, it was unfortunate Dhani called it gratuitous. Here's a tip for Dhani and anyone else who thought it was a bit much, don't leave a pile of unguarded meat around a lion lol. What the hell are you thinking inviting one of the world's greatest entertainers on stage?. It's Prince being Prince, the guy 3 years later rocked the Super Bowl so hard that the winning quarterback mentioned it. I believe George liked it, he was watching it from the afterlife and said "bout time somebody spruced this thing up".

@creditorclass6513 Nooo. Primce looked at Tom Petty for the " go ahead." Tom knew what was up. Only those outside Gen X say its too much. History was being made. I believe Dhani was actually very pleased.

Also if you listen to prince solo there are a lot of nods to George Harrison and the original. I listened to the original after my first time hearing this and it's there. People who knocked Prince are just haters.

The drummer Steve Ferrone (from Average White Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) later told the New York Times that he didn't actually know Prince was going to be performing with them until Prince showed up. I guess when Ferrone went over to introduce himself, Prince told Ferrone that he already knew who he was. At the time, Ferrone figured Prince was just saying that to be polite. Later during the rehearsal, Prince apparently started playing a riff from a song Ferrone had written with Average White Band. Ferrone looked up and saw Prince watching him as he played the riff. Ferrone knew then that Prince really was familiar with him and his work.

This is one of those performances that if it wasn't caught on video, you wouldn't have believed it, just EPIC. The stage was filled with so many legends of the industry and Prince still stood out. Growing up I always knew Prince and his work, but was never a HUGE fan, but I had one guy I knew always sing his praises, like he got a commission for every one he made a fan(it was that bad). And over the years, while I'm still not a fan like he was, I came to realized how much of an amazing talent he truly was, and this performance shows that and then some.

I watched it because it was Prince's induction. Why should he be ashamed because George was being inducted for like the 3rd time. They're just angry that Prince made it the definitive go to version of the song. Once again they don't know Prince, a good percentage of his live covers become definitive.

You’re so spot on. Those other guys were putting on a great performance, but it’s kind of a droning on song, and Prince came on and just electrocuted the stage and you couldn’t take your eyes off of him!! Thx for the reaction, and also, I never really comment on stuff like this, but you have to be one of the most naturally beautiful woman I’ve ever seen!! And I loved the calm, genuine demeanor in which you reacted as it wasn’t over the top but still again, spot on. As a multiple decade Prince fan, thank you for paying homage to this gifted musician!!

There’s a very interesting story surrounding this performance. Not only had Rolling Stone magazine failed to include Prince in their “100 Greatest Guitarists” list earlier that year, but reportedly George’s widow was against Prince’s participation in this song, as she felt it’d somehow cheapen his memory. Anyways, some of the musicians involved did everything they could to boycott practice sessions. They’d take breaks as soon as Prince showed up, etc. Supposedly at one point it got so bad that the producer intervened and asked Prince if he’d like him to do something about it. Prince just said- “Don’t worry, I got this.” What you see on video was his way of dealing with it. He OWNED that performance. Now you understand why at the end he just throws the guitar and walks off the stage. The ultimate “F YOU!”

Another highlight of this performance was how everyone here was unfazed by Prince's performance, as they've all seen the greats over a lifetime and this was just another day at the office. Hi Maddy! We lost our brothers Prince and Tom Petty to fentanyl poisoning. Also a corrupt music industry that pushes drugs on artists to squeeze as much as they can out of them. In 1978, Prince recorded his first album, 'For You,' playing all of the instruments on the record himself, in addition to producing and composing all of the tracks. You never use to be able to look up any Prince song on KZread because he was very protective of his copyright.

It was a tribute, to a guitarist correct? Then I think the person who this tribute was for, would have found it amazing. Also Prince didn’t rehearse with these guys, he didn’t show up for rehearsal, but he told them it would be ok, he was the lead guitarist, they specifically bought him in, so he was suppose to upstage the other guitarist, this is why he had the guitar solo at the end.

there is a backstory. A best list of top 50 guitarists was put out and Prince was not on it. As a group they decided to use this opportunity to showcase him in minor protest of that omission.

his father wanted to be the best telling him you are not good enough...so that separated him with the others...so that s the result....THE BEST OF THE BEST AT ALL....and thats separates him from the rest of musical icons to this day . HE IS THE GOAT...thats why he left and threw the guitar

Great performance. Eric Clapton reprised his original recording during the English concert for George. Paisley Park is sort of Prince’s homage to 1966 -1969 psychedelic sound. Obviously Prince was fan of that era.
