2021 Psychosocial Issues in Patients Living With vEDS - Leanne Barrett

This presentation is from the 2021 EDS ECHO Summit: Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (vEDS). vEDS is a genetic connective tissue disorder that causes the blood vessels and organs to be fragile and prone to tearing. The complications of vEDS can be life-threatening and include aneurysm, dissection, and rupture of the arteries and rupture of organs. vEDS may also cause a variety of other symptoms, including extensive bruising and spontaneous pneumothorax. www.ehlers-danlos.com/what-is...
Leanne Barrett is a pre-registration genetic counselling student, currently working at Great Ormond Street Hospital after completing her masters at Cardiff University. Her interest in vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome started when conducting her dissertation research in 2019. Her research is the first study in the UK to explore the psychosocial impact of living with vEDS and really captures the experiences of those living with the condition.
