Hopkins is 83 years old and is in Wales, which is part of the UK, which is 5 hours ahead of eastern standard time, which means it was 4am when it was announced that he won. Did anyone else find the music choices to be incredibly out of place? Like they played All the Stars after Daniel. Why not play the song by H.E.R. that was in his film? By far the weirdest one was after Nomadland won. That was not the song to play. Even the In Memoriam song seemed too upbeat.

Nice review. I went from 405 to like 30 movies from 2019 to 2020, COVID just kind of killed it for me ... so I wasn’t too invested. But always enjoy your thoughts on the awards, even when I’ve seen almost none of the movies this time.

Finished the night 17 - 23. Both Lead Acting categories wrong. I went with Viola Davis & Chadwick Boseman, Cinematography (I went with Nomadland), Film Editing (I went with Trial Of The Chicago 7), Best Song (I went with Speak Now) & Documentary Short (went with Concerto Is A Conversation). Thanks for the live reaction video Austin, keep up the good work & bring on the 2022 Oscars!!!

Loved your reactions! Did NOT expect some of these surprises at ALL, but that's part of the fun - would have been boring if everything went according to what most of us were expecting. So happy "The Father" got those well-deserved awards! Btw... Brad Pitt actually said Bakalova's name correctly, I was impressed - so used to Eastern European names being butchered in English ))

I saw Tenet Soul and that's it...But seeing TENET win VFX and Soul take Best Score was fun to see! Great Reaction!

They didn’t know. The only people that know the winners are the accountants. I studied accounting in school. When you do an audit like accounting the Academy’s votes no one is allowed to know because it’s an accounting risk and an auditing risk. For example imagine all the people it takes to put a show like the Oscars on knowing the winners. Those winners could easily get out and people could make bets because they already know the winners. The winners could leak thus devaluing the television program to almost 0 for said year. Not to mention all the other bad/negative stuff that could happen

Soderbergh: This year we are going to do Best Picture then Best Actress and end with Best Actor. It is going to give it a dramatic ending when they announce Chadwick's name. Interns (after BAFTA): Sir, sir, they say Anthony Hopkins might win Oscar. Soderbergh: No, no. They are going to give it to Chadwick and I want my dramatic ending. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for all the winners (all really good to great choices, imo), but the presentation of the final few catagories and the seeming carelessness with which they were handled made me quite angry. I love that Hopkins finally won his second Oscar for what I thought was the single best performance of the year, but the way it happened with the switched around categories just felt so wrong to me, and ruined what could have otherwise been an incredible upset moment. I like/love the choices in the nominees, but very much disliked the last third of the ceremony itself. Biggest surprise to me was "Fight for You" pulling off the dark horse win and "Collette" managing to topple "A Love Song for Latasha," which I thought was a sure thing.

If you've seen all the films nominated for the best actor category, there's little doubt that Anthony Hopkins towers above everyone else by leagues without exaggerations. Riz Ahmed ran a good second for his acting without speaking as many words. It was Chadwick's best performance without question & considering this was his last, the sentiment would've gone in his favour. But the academy rather than dwelling on emotions, went for pure excellence.
