3:15 - Those dimples serve the same purpose under the car that they serve on the golf ball. They create a boundary layer of air around the surface, allowing for smoother airflow around that boundary layer. On the golf ball, that gives the ball greater aerodynamic efficiency to allow the ball to travel farther. On the underside of the car, it will allow the car to experience less drag due to the way that air is made to flow underneath it. The Ferrari F12 has air channels that run from the grille to the center of the hood, and from the upper-outer sections of the hood to the sides of the car just below the A pillars. Those channels help to create a similar aerodynamic boundary effect on the top & sides of the car.

Mercedes tech here. Had the opportunity to drive one of these a while ago (still havent broken down so we havent seen these in the shop yet). But all I can say is that this thing is on a level of its own. I have never in my life driven anything like it, its an experience you have to experience to understand. One thing Sarah forgot to mention that is really cool on these is that the whole instrumentcluster is 3D, which is especially cool if you have the nagivationscreen selected, feels like looking into the screen.
The dimples act exactly like the surface of a golf ball for aerodynamics it actually smooths out the boundary layer air flow for sound reduction.

Ya they are great on a curved surface, like vortex generators. Not sure how much of an improvement it is on a flat service. I bet they did the math though.

Love the sparky things when you tap the chassis. I know I can't afford a MB, but seriously appreciate the crazy engineering. Absolutely love your way of describing a beautiful machine such as this. Ruffles at the bottom of your pants are neat and unusual.
There's a lot of tech in this car but the head-up display is something else. A great review Sarah!
I work on these for a living 🥰 the EQS is even more impressive.
A metric Sarah , you have earned , even more respect
OMG... Outstandingly subtle eyebrow raises... Visual ASMR! Top quality content Sarah! Nicely done as always!
That's a pretty cool car. I'd never watch car reviews if you didn't do them and yours are probably the only ones I'll ever watch. So thank you for bringing some cool stuff into my life :)
Honestly this channel is amazing! It’s nice to see someone talking of the mechanicals and not just talking about interiors and entertainment systems. Thanks for creating this 👍
I've been working at an independent MBZ shop for 25 years. This is the kind of POS that will finally make me move on to something else in life. Recently bought a 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner because it's such a "dinosaur". I want a car to work for me...not the other way around. The mere thought of the conversations I will be forced to have with customers about these cars makes me want to retire right NOW! Thanks for the review Sarah!

This is the first mechanical review ive seen and I love it! Im a diehard mercedes fan, but I never get to see a review of one of these newer cars from a mechanic's point of view. It was insightful, thanks!

Happy New Year thanks for another review! Looking forward to a great year!
Great car and great review to start the new year. The HUD is cool and utilitarian. Worth having.
Mercedes engineering has been superlative for decades. But, as Sarah noted at a couple places in her review, service can be insanely expensive because some of the components are very difficult to access, and some require partial disassembly of other components before you can even get to them, not to mention the specialized tools needed for actual service. Finally, note that Mercedes is NEVER on anyone's list of "most reliable" vehicles. With a lot of TLC ($$), they can last a very long time, but the cost per mile can get ridiculous. No thank you, especially at this price point.

Well, to be fair Mercedes-Benz made very reliable, durable cars up until the 90s, when leasing became the norm. Their customers don't need the cars to last as long, so they don't bother.

If you have owned or worked on any Mercedes in the last 20 years you would know that the engineering has been anything but superlative. Lots of flashy, gimmicky tech for sure, but at the expense of getting the fundamental engineering right.

That's why most people lease high end cars and dump them after a few years. Car companies still get their sales numbers, it's the 2nd or 3rd owner that's going to have a nightmare of a time maintaining them

Great review Sara. Thank you 😊 for talking about the Audio Systems between the Lexus and the Mercedes. It’s hard to find people that talk about the differences when it comes to audio. In most cases poor audio is a dealbreaker unless were speaking about an exotic car where performance is the up most concern
You're completely on the money giving it the lowest wrench score ever. I've logged a lot of miles in high- mileage examples of MB S550s as a professional driver. The massage feature kept me from having to visit a chiropractor in 80 hour weeks behind the wheel. There is a reason why these tend to be leased, and why they lose >$100K in value by the end of a lease. They are extremely fun to drive right up until they're not. Too often they've become so mechanically crippled that to fix the components only MB has the diagnostic workstation to reflash or reset, you would be way ahead by parting it out. So they stay broken. I'd wager 95% of the black car service MB sedans are limping along with some major feature or several being broken.
Come on, pop off .. then into the valley of the beasts . Happy new year Sarah . Girl, you are awesome, an inspiration 💖.
Thank you Sarah!

Thanks for actual info during a review esp the materials, wow, just wow. I miss the 108 series which was such a dream to work on.
Another great review, especially the seats lol. Really enjoyed watching this one.
The panel dimpling: on a golf ball, it reduces overall air resistance. So I expect this application has the same purpose. The skinny antisway bar maintains more compliance on rough roads, but seems inadequate, yes. The difference in lateral resistance to body lean is taken care of by the "E-Active Body Control" system on a constantly adjusted thousanth-of-a-second analysis basis, per the MB site.
Great work Sarah, another enjoyable Sunday evening watching your awsome content 😀 👌 😊 👍
So much detail. Impressive review..one of your best. Thank you. I love this car. I would like to lease a S series one day.
Amazing amount of tech in this car, most of which seems to be designed to isolate the occupants from any driving sensations. Obviously, this isn't intended to be M-B's driver's car, nor is this the kind of car people would keep for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles. M-Bs in general are known to become money pits as they age, due in part to the expensive parts and all that complex engineering which requires mechanics to disassemble half the car to get at things that only require removing a few bolts on "lesser" cars. Great review, and it's nice to see a car like this reviewed from a more "regular person" reviewer than typical for something like this.
Interesting Car, I prefer the simplicity of the 1966 230 sedan we used to have. Thanks and Happy New Year Sarah 😀👍🇨🇦
5:00 Great example of seatbelt tensioning! Watch her microphone attached to the seatbelt jump!

Also pushing the boundaries on when parts break or fail. Seriously, a plastic transmission tray?? MB has quality, but has been completely lost in the reliability segment.
Very interesting, informative, intelligent and sassy review. Rarely see reviews where the underside and the engineering is so closely scrutinised. Many valid and astute observations Sarah. Whoa all that plastic is scary and looks very cheap and flimsy like it won't last very long. Yeah Sarah sure will be challenging when diagnosing electrical gremlins in 20 years time! Had a friend with a 6 month old E320cdi and Mercedes could not pinpoint the fault so they ended up just replacing all the ECUs and a range of other components, crossing their fingers that they'd managed to rectify it.
Nice review as always Sarah. You may want to consider adding a link to your second channel in the description to make it easier for us to check it out. May you and yours be well, j
The golf-like holes have an air stabilizing properties and help reduce wind resistance.
@sarah-n- tuned seeing you in expensive cars is oddly satisfying
your reviews are so….nicely - different from all the other car reviews. Love it! Keep going….
As said, the golf ball dimples increase aero dynamics, it can also be done to inlet manifolds to increase air flow and can now be found on fan blades, again to increase air flow and reduce noise.

Hair New Year, best wishes, health and peace! The dimples in golfballs are supposedly for aerodynamic purposes: the air would cling less to the ball. The nuts or bolts in the ball joints look like Torx to me. Glad to hear the seats were... Pleasing. There's probably a separate cooling circuit for the e-motor.
Mercedes made a beautiful S class inside and out. I was really on the the edge of my seat for the wrench score. This is the kind of stupid bad idea car I would buy when it has depreciated 95% in ten years. But by then everything will probably be electric and who knows if this will be more or less desirable then. Great review, entertaining as always!!!
......Happy New Year! and this was a GREAT review/test. Now, all we need is a Big Trade to get the coin to buy one or two of these! What took them so long to get you to do a Review???? Anyway, do more Night Drives....very cool!!!
Great beat when putting the engine cover on and closing the hood!!!
Benz has always made an amazing car. They sure don’t seem to last or hold their value. Love to have one for the first part of its life. I don’t think I can afford the air in the tires. Great review!

I have the S500 with the upgrade in the rear seats. It's not just heated seats. They have all the functions of the front seats, including massage and 4D sound. A must have...
Even after two cups of joe, my head was swimming with all the descriptions you were giving. Just great. Just over half the cost of my house though. probably worth it. You must be pretty honest and consistent. I say this using only the penguin score and I was able to guess 3,8 after the other three were given. Amazing resolution on the camera aimed at your face while behind the wheel (and no, no pores were visible)
I’m digging the editing style
Love the review Sarah. Kudos for the correct pronunciation of aluminium.
Great review....love the way you pronounce Aluminium......from a uk fan.
My S560 has the option of displaying ft/lbs produced and an accelerometer which displays g force with a red ball moving on a 360 degree display , in the tachometer nacelle.
My favorite luxury car is Mercedes. But that heads-up display looks soo cool even through your camera that it makes me want to get one just for that alone. The only problem is that I would have to become nocturnal just to play with it all the time lol.
The version with the 10⁰ rear steer makes these so easy to put on my hoist at work. Love these cars... depending on the version, there are over 110 individual modules. The ball joint nuts are technically single use and must be replaced every time they come off. The front anti roll bar end links bolt right through the upper knuckle... these will be an issue in the rust belt... tons of cool tech in this car too
