You are absolutely correct on the riding position. I started out riding mine leaning back and my back was killing me. Once I shifted to a more forward sitting posture, it is so much more comfortable and I can ride it longer.

Nice, congrats on the new bike!! It’s a blast 🍻
I'm looking to buy my first bike and was stuck between the iron 883 and the street bob. I think the Iron 1200 is going to take the cake here.

I always heard that one of the inevitable upgrades was a 1200 conversion so I figured might as well go with a 1200 to start lol

I am in the market for a Sportster. I rode a 2004 model earlier this week and it was fun. The forward controls were odd at first, but I loved them after two minutes. The bike was an 833 with a 1200 swap. It was gorgeous, but it seemed a little too worn. My gut was telling me no, so I passed. I am going to look at a mostly stock 2007 Sportster Low Saturday. It looks like it is well kept.

Appreciate that man, glad it was useful!
Re watching in 2023...feel sad for those wanting a nice, basic Sportster and cant buy a new one today. Glad I have a 2008 Sportster 1200.... heck I loved my 1986 Sportster 883 I had in 1989. Today as a young man with limited funds coming out of the Army.... I probably would not have bought a Harley like I did in 1989. I'd have bought a Royal Enfield 350 or something...and HD would have last my 9 other Harley purchases over the past 35 ish years .

Totally agree. No idea what Harley was thinking to drop than and only have the new one

Yes, its unfortunate they are gone. I guess there's plenty of used ones, though...I think they made a dupe in China.

Watching for the first time in 2024 after purchasing my first Harley. I ended up getting a great deal on a 2018 48 Special with only 350 miles on it (old man got sick). I was very underwhelmed with the liquid cooled new Harley they replaced the sportster with. In fact, the cheapest bike that felt like a Harley was $17k. More than I and many other could or would want to afford right now. Bummer they got rid of the evo as an intro bike.
I have a 2005 XLC that i just bored out to 1200, i cant slouch back, i gotta lean forward and hold on when i get after it when i leave town. Custom everything, love my sporty.

@@ScoutsOut Well man its been 5 months but I settled on a 2006 1200c Custom. I lost my job shortly after I made that comment but I got another one and finally got into riding and i enrolled in a msf course. Loving the bike so far and will continue to enjoy it the more I'm out.

Quite the roller coaster, glad to hear it’s all working out now
I put a set of Legends on mine and now I look forward to riding it. The stock shocks suck. If you want a great ride, spend the money for a set of legends 13 inch shocks. You wont drag pegs very much either.

Yea bro, totally different experience but a lot of fun
I wonder how much lean angle could be gained if the foot pegs placement was changed and an aftermarket exhaust was installed.

I’m sure it would get pretty low if you did all that

I ordered forward controls the day I picked it up and then got a set of nicer pegs when they came in. Forwards raise your feet up and spread out enuf to really not scrape. Those original little pegs suck IMO… my feet would always start hanging off. Advice for forwards: put a sock or old pant leg over black painted mufflers…the black powder coating scratches easily. You may need to remove the muffler to get to the Allen bolts on the peg mount.

I’m 5’10”, I hand quite a bit of bend in my legs on the street bob. I loved the street bob by the way great bike, I just couldn’t joke down the price at the time.
Going to look at a used one today. Its got 4k on it. What hit the ground when you where turning? They are asking 7k for the bike. Not a sctatch on it. Good price here in nor cal?

Nice dude! 7 k is good. I scraped the pegs leaning the bike over to far
So you haven't ridden an 883 Something wrong with your bike if it's lugging under 3k RPM If you go to cruising speed in 4th gear then shift to 5th you will not feel like you need 6 gears
