This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2021 Ford Mustang GT convertible. There is something special about the sound of a V8 Mustang!
With 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, it’s a riot to drive. Our test Mustang GT model comes with a 5L V-8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a 6-speed manual transmission is standard. It will cost you $1,750 CAD/ $1,595 USD for the automatic transmission. The RWD Mustang GT Premium convertible comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, LED fog lights, remote key-less entry, dual exhaust with quad tips, 18” x 8” aluminum wheels, illuminated entry and pony projection lights. 19” and 20” wheels are optional, our test model has 20” premium painted aluminum wheels for $1,500 CAD. Our test Mustang GT model does not come with the GT Performance package for $4,500 CAD/$6,500 USD or the MagneRide automatic adaptive sport suspension for $2,500 CAD/$1,695 USD. You have to buy the GT Performance Package before you can add the MagneRide package to your build. This Mustang GT Convertible now comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot 360 technology, which includes; automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, blind spot information system, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, rear view camera and active park assist 2.0.Some standard interior features on the GT Premium Convertible include, SYNC 3 with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, leather trimmed heated and cooled front seats, leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, heated mirrors, 6-way power drivers seat, 4-way power passenger seat, 9-speaker stereo system and key-less entry.There are plenty of packages to add to your Mustang, our test model comes with the Equipment Group for $2,200 CAD. You get a heated steering wheel, a 12” LCD digital instrument cluster and a voice actived touchscreen navigation system. We also have the B&O sound system for $1,000 CAD. JD Power gives the Mustang GT convertible an overall score of 86/100 and for quality and reliability a score of 88/100. Driving experience scored a 90/100. CarEdge states the Mustang GT convertible will retain 62% of its value after 5 years.
For fuel economy, the Mustang GT convertible gets 16.2L/100 km city, 15 MPG and 10.0L/100km highway, 24 MPG.
Ford offers a warranty of 3 years or 60,000 km.

Fun fact about my Wife. This was almost 4 year ago. She COULDN'T SLEEP after taking a test drive of 2018 5.0 Mustang GT premium at the local dealer. Needless to say. We went and pick up her new ride the following weekend.😉

You guys always make me smile. I have an ecoboost which always gives me between 10.5 L and 11.0 L in the city. It has 19 inch wheels, I find the ride quality very good. Also, I applaud how quiet the car is, road and engine noise are well suppressed.

I'm doing 7L in highway going at 110Km and 10L in the bad roads of Montreal but you are spot on the ride quality has nothing to do with the older stangs
Years ago I owned a 1990 Monster Miata (Mustang 5 litre/5 speed conversion). I'd often pull into a gas station or parking lot and have guys look around for a Mustang with that V8 rumble. Then they'd realize that sound was coming from a little Miata. Priceless!

I own a 2015 GT premium coupe in manual with the performance pack in yellow. It’s a great car and been a blast to drive for the past 4 years. The newer ones with the upgraded interior, tech and suspension improvements are worth looking at. I think it’s time you put one in the family stable. Fun review! Cheers

I’ve had my 18 G.T. Ragtop since new, love it and look for excuses to drive. Mine is lightning blue metallic and people just love the colour. It’s equipped exactly like this one and the adaptive exhaust is awesome ! The sound is really the core and that sweet Coyote motor never disappoints.

Could a tall driver use it? I am tall 6' 6" and could not fit in a corvette or camaro but would like a sporty convertible.
Had a 2017 California GT convertible and now a 2021 hardtop GT with the PP1 package and LOVE it! Great review

Think this is my 17th Mustang. 2020 GT. All the extras. Every generation of Mustang is improved. My two continues gripes are the radio graphics and the sound system. The graphics looked better to me in the 2014 model for example with the built in mp3 hard drive. I have the upgraded B&O system, great improvement to the 9 speaker system but that bass still needs to kick more. Remember the Mach 1000 system with the dual mounted trunk subs and the amps on the rack. Was so cool.
Great review as always. The Mustang has to be one of the most iconic designs ever. I absolutely love them. It was a hard choice last year when I bought a new car. The Mustang or my unbelievable Stinger GT. Stinger won because of the overall package in my opinion. If I do get another car it will be a Mustang just because it is a Mustang. Cheers from Oz.

The only downside I can tell in the US is that you can't get the Magneride shocks with the convertible package. And she's wrong, the default transmission in this car is the 6-speed Tremac transmission.

That V8 gives better mileage than my Ecoboost and the V8 is a Hell of a lot cheaper to repair as well. On the Ecoboost, to replace the timing belt, they have to take the front cover off the motor… that’s a thousand dollars there, just to take the cover off and put it back on. Under that cover is the timing belt, the water pump and the oil pump. Talk about screwing the consumer over for repairs. While I had the cover off, I replaced all three. $ 3600. Not a hope in Hell I’d ever buy another Ecoboost.

Dear Lord, i want that white Mustang GT convertible.... but I live in the snowbelt. Summer nights driving it would be heavenly.
How is the road noise with the top up at 110kph, i.e., on the highway? Is the soft top insulated for sound or a simple one layer top? Thanks !

@@Motormouth... Nice car, but plagued with issues. Owners are suing Ford in federal court for $228 million. The lawsuit claims that transmissions and differentials on their high-performance pony cars are allegedly overheating at high speeds, sending the car into limp mode.

Greetings from Germany! Got a Mustang GT Convertible in Twister Orange. Absolute eyecatcher.
The 15MPG City/24 HWY numbers are ridiculous! For a V8, I have absolutely no idea how they made an engine that big to crank out so much horses while sipping some little gas. Ford could make a pure sports car and lose the air cooled/ heated seats and other bell and whistles and this thing could sell like hot cakes. Love it!

That’s awesome!! Have you found it to be really reliable too? Any perf mods? I just drive a friend’s vert with the gt manual perf pack the other day and it sure sounded nice with the active exhaust!
This generation of Mustang GT (2015+) is the sweet spot in the lineup, with all you want (smooth reliable V8, nice interior, limited slip etc) but none of the expensive high maintenance stuff (carbon wheels, back breaking ride etc). No price markups either. More expensive then they used to be, but comes with a lot more than it used to.

I am currently in a 2011 MB cabriolet, and have a 2021 Eco boost premium convertible on order. itching that it'd be here yesterday especially after these reviews.
Outstanding value for 💸 money, good looking cheap sportscar, it's a winner and a hit here in Australia,okay,really common nothing special or unique, but they sell 'em by the truckload here, fantastic for a Sunday drive and a coffee, thumbs up👍

Indeed it is a great looking car. I absolutely love the looks of it. See quite a few in Sydney. Not sure about value for money when compared to the Stinger GT. I did the exercise and bought the Stinger GT. Also in Oz the Mustang get a 3 star NCAP rating which is surprising. My friend has a Mustang and it is sensational. Absolutely love them.
They have these in the Philippines and there's no way I'd buy anything other than the V8. Screw fuel economy, that sound, that rumble, heaven..
I agree with Zack ,don’t like black wheels . It’s way overrated. I like some bling on my shoes,

rented the v6 version recently and it was a freakin hoot. hadn't been in one since the late 90s, when it seemed like everyone had a foxbody 5.0, and the new one reminded me of the old one which was a delightful thing. as much as i love german coupes this mustang really hits the right buttons, just need to get my hands on a 5.0!

2019 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 black convertible my baby❤️
I have a 2016 convertible 3.7 L V6, Ford no longer offers that engine. I paid $24,000 with 22,000 km in 2018! What a bargain. I did some mods; upgraded stereo, new K&N air intake, lowered 1 1/4” all around, new front rear sway bars, 19” wheels, and chipped it to about 330hp. few things worth mentioning; the styling never gets old, it has a classy look that will stay current for years, the trunk is relatively HUGE, I golf a lot and the trunk easily holds my push cart and full size golf bag without removing longer golf clubs, try that other convertibles! My only regret, I purchased a black car…. Now I’m a slave to keeping the $#!?* thing clean…… excuse me I have to go wash my car AGAIN >:-/ lol ….

You mentioned a 4500 hundred dollar option which I thought you we talking about magna-ride but the you said that was 2k and together expensive. What is the 4500$ option? Still don’t know.

According to many, yes the manual tranny is still bad. However the tremec available in other trims is much better

The car manufacturer head office is in Ontario and this is most likely a corporate demo so they would have licensed and shipped the plates to BC

A Porsche will feel like a fancy French handbag, so it's natural women will lust over one, but the Mustang is like the very fun gf or bf who just has sooooooooo much fun. It's irreplaceable. Mustang all the way (V8 of course!)

I hate black wheels, too! I'm hoping we hit peak black wheels earlier this year and the pendulum is swinging back towards shiny wheels.
Sorry Zack! The black wheels rule! I showed my daughter (16) the car with the bright wheels and she said "now it just looks like a regular car." So there you go - the kids know what's up!! :) Enjoyed this vid tho!
I will take the basic GT with the handling performance package at under $50K... I think, it's the best bangs for the bucks today!

I believe 5.0 has its own features and it's damn good too But EcoBoost has its own features, u can have sports car in way less with great economy. Not a big fan of high performance package as it doesn't make any sense. In that case we can go for 5.0. Also 5.0 is not a daily driver considering the gas prices which are 1.75 per liter of gas right now in BC
Such a beautiful, timeless design. The best by far since the original, for me.

The body is less rigid despite having some extra weight to brace it underneath so it might be a waste. Personally I ordered mine with Magneride anyway...

@Hugh MacIsaac Miata handles like a dream but I always with it had a turbo or a little more get up and go. I know the Fiata has a turbo but probably not as reliable. I would love a v8.

So basically the car depreciates at $500 usd per month..
Love your reports . Note that this car is dead in France . The Convertible GT V8 costs 56 400 € but gets... 30 000 € of taxes !!! Crazy country.
If Ford screws up the next Mustang without the world famous 5.0 V8, they are killing an icon. 3.5 Ecoboost with mild hybrid is no replacement for a V8. If they are going of what those enviromentalist wants by killing an iconic ICE engine, I would rather see they kill the Mustang instead. But just don't called an EV SUV Mach-E a "Mustang" for god's sake. I agreed with Jim Kenzie of Motoring at this point.
"It doesn't come with for xxxx dollars amount"..." as a option for XXX is a far better way to say that..

Still prefer the old school round head lights built between 2005 to 2009 IMHO
I've driven both convertible and coupe, convertible is way cooler
And you still have to twist a 20 year old handle to get the convertible top started. Unbelievable.
Ok thats now 3 domestic cars reviews in the last little while, who are you and what have you done with the real Andrea and Zack?...... I will now stop whining about too many import reviews. Zack most of the time I agree with your opinions but sorry man black wheels are the new norm. The OEMs are making too much money with all the all black packages, Stealth package on Escape, Midnight package on Kia, etc etc. Chrome is dead!

5L engine seems to be overspec.... 2.3 looks fit for citizen.
