Una gran fiesta, sí, es lo que fue el concierto del Palau de la Música el día 10 de diciembre de
2021 en el marco del Festival de Jazz de Barcelona.
Ese año, en el que la Sant Andreu Jazz Band cumplía 15 años de vida, el festival me dedicaba el
retrato de artista, programando 5 conciertos relacionados con mi persona:
1. JOAN CHAMORRO BIG BAND PRESENTA, concierto especial con una big band formada por
aquellos músicos de la SAJB con los que he grabado un disco de presentación (canciones y
arreglos nuevos, que podemos escuchar también en el nuevo “JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA
BIG BAND PRESENTAS”).
2. Como sideman y productor presentando el CD “ÈLIA BASTIDA MEETS SCOTT HAMILTON”.
3. Joan Chamorro BARITONE RHAPSODY con ALBA ESTEBAN (concierto del cual salieron
algunos de los temas que forman parte dde”JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA ALBA ESTEBAN”).
4. Como sideman junto a ANDREA MOTIS, en el proyecto GUITAR STORM.
Y 5. El concierto de la SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND, para celebrar sus 15 años.
Este concierto es el que tenéis en vuestras manos, en dos CD’S, porque fue un concierto
generoso musicalmente, en donde conseguimos reunir a prácticamente todos los músicos que
habían pasado por el proyecto más los que en ese momento formaban parte de él. En total, 64
músicos, más los asiduos invitados: Ignasi Terraza, Josep Traver y Esteve Pi.
Fue realmente maravilloso poder reunirnos y volver a hacer música y recrear algunos de los
temas más populares de todos estos años (además de 3 nuevas canciones que no habíamos
grabado nunca). Una jazz party por todo lo alto, en donde fue emocionante poder escuchar la
evolución de muchos de los músicos que no escuchaba desde hacía años. Muchos de ellos
tienen sus propios proyectos y tienen un papel importante en el panorama jazzístico actual.
Realmente esta grabación es muy especial, tanto emocional como musicalmente. En algunos
de los temas podemos escuchar prácticamente dos bigbands tocando a la vez, con dos
baterías, dos bajistas, dos guitarras, 10 saxos, 6 o 7 trombones, 6 o 7 trompetas, coros de más
de 10 personas, etc.
No era fácil, pero lo hicimos posible. Porque, como ya dije allá por el año 2009, en el primer
JAZZING: la Sant Andreu Jazz Band es un sueño hecho realidad. Y estamos en el 2022 (año en el
que aparece esta grabación del 2021) y seguimos soñando.
No puedo estar más que agradecido a todas las personas que hicieron posible este concierto,
empezando por el Festival de Jazz de Barcelona y el Palau de la Música. Por supuesto, a todos
los músicos que ya no formaban parte de la SAJB y que se reservaron la fecha y acudieron a la
cita con ilusión y alegrías desbordantes. También a todos los músicos actuales y a sus familias.
Aprovecho este momento de agradecimientos para extenderlo a todas aquellas personas que
hacen posible que este proyecto siga adelante. A Blanca Gallo, de Gaudiu Música, a David
Casamitjana y a Josep Roig, por las grabaciones y las mezclas, a Lili Bonmatí, por sus
maravillosas fotos durante todos estos años, a Ramon Tort por todas las grabaciones de video.
También quiero agradecer a Roman Polankik por su amabilidad al cedernos un espacio en la
Nau Bostik, para poder realizar los ensayos previos, de esta bigband mayúscula.

I loved it all but the second time around listened carefully to the piano of Anna Ndiaye which I thought was spectacular...
I can only hope to God that Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie are able to smile down on this their legacy. So grateful to Joan Chamorro fog leading 😂these young musicians into the past, present, and future!

Wonderful as usual, what we have come to expect from Joan Chamorro's exceptional proteges. For me, a special kudos to Alba Armengou and the soloing maturity she displays in this all-star trumpet line-up.
Passion, ambition, drive, years of hard work and soooo much talent. And the combining factor: Joan Chamorro. Whatever comes next, I know it wiil be just as good!
Joan Chamorrow is clearly a genious for coaxing a big band performance of this quality from these great young people
The whole band sounds beautiful. I, if i were present would've presented roses to Rita and Anna. I play trombone and piano, and know when I hear greatness. Andrea on trumpet, no one any better on trumpet in years.

Well said, brother. I'm a retired musician from way back. It doesn't take too long to recognize perfection, or something damned close to it. It's here. I told Joan in a comment that if we looked up 'mentor' in the dictionary, we'd probably find his picture. I stand by that remark. He works wonders with these young folks.

I have listened the 2011 version at least twice a month since 2014 and was thinking it could not go any better. Now I know it has come better, just stunning!!!
Memory lane! Great seeing everyone all grown up and still doing their thing. The legacy is even-up in terms of the boy/girl thing. Spectacular. Rita keeps getting stronger and more creative. Ana is on her way. Same great arrangement. Wow.

It is great to see how Joan introduces young kids to Jazz , together with Alba , Rita , Andrea a.o. who play really like old professionals. Very enjoyable !
Thanks to this youth group for sharing with us. It is such an inspiration to us older folk who also spent our youth in a musical group. JAZZ is special demonstration of talent - the trombonist is especially impressive.

You know I am enamoured with the young jazz players and your great inspiration and direction. When I hear the bluesy and bop improvising using famous models and transcriptions. And the big band arrangements are terrific and sound smooth. I just turned on my colleague who is very impressed and he’s former trumpeter in the NY Phil under Boulez playing Le Sacre. I retired from performing yet I am renewed. I bought a portable folding piano and am playing the Real Book tunes and the changes again. Muchas gracias!

It's a tad more. Both Joan Mar and Victor have been in the band since 2012, and Andrea was the first to leave (I think) in 2017, which makes it 5 years, including Elsa as the fifth. Quite a while...

wow! At first, I thought it was Count Basie, because the grove was steady with the tasty piano licks. The trumpet solos were fanatic and the trombone with the skills. Great tuttis. I pay to see them play. :)

Pour quoi se compliquer la vie, un plaisir instantané avec le son sensationnel de ce big band des chorus avec des trompettistes hors pair un piano et un trombone talentueusement utilisés... encore une soirée à écouter le SAJB en long en large et en travers... bon il faut quand même que je pense à jouer aussi... demain ... je crois que je suis un peu accro... j écoute pour la troisième fois ce thème... bon demain je le joue...merci pour votre musique et cette super soirée...
