You're review is spot on. I just sold my SB130LR for a Switchblade. One thing I like about the switchblade is how nimble it feels in more tight/technical sections. Both bikes are amazing do-it-all bikes. I miss how stable the Yeti felt at high speed chunky trails, but I welcome how sick the Switchblade climbs and handles when things get technical and it still plows on those high speed chunky trails, just a different "feel". On a side note, the Float X shock was a major improvement on the Switchblade.

Got a year in on the SB 130TLR and really stoked on it now. Upgraded to the I9 wheel set which really raised the performance bar and got the weight down to 30lbs w/ pedals. This bike loves to rip and can take some advanced rider knowledge to get it dialed. I have the DPX2 compression set up so trail mode is very usable on climbing and flow w/ out giving up traction or feeling overly harsh. . Its livelier and poppier than just riding in open mode all the time. Open mode reserved more for the tech and chunk descents. Mach chicken! Interested if any other LR edition riders mess w/ the dpx 3 way compression settings. Its amazing what bikes have evolved to now. Hard to go wrong w/ any one of them. Ride on!

Picked up a new 130 LR after owning a first generation Pivot Switchblade in XL. Equipped with a dialed in 2021 X2 the bike is incredible. At 6'5" tall it is very difficult to find a proper fitting bike, but the Yeti (and Ripmo V2) are awesome! Maybe because I'm so tall I don't really get the sensation that I've got to be way out over the front to make it corner well. This bike just fricken rails and inspires confidence climbing and descending. Amazing where the industry has gone in just a few years. Thanks for the review!

Thank you for the great bike reviews and especially the reviews where you compare bikes. Knowing which bike climbs better, descends better, or handles better in the twisties really helps me get what a bike does best. I also appreciate that you are not "all Enduro---all the time". As long as a bikes geo is progressive, I think shorter travel and less aggressive tires are more fun. Please review the Epic Evo and/or the Stumpjumper. Happy Thanksgiving!

I believe that Pivot Switchblade has 157 super boost + rear hub and not 148. Great video as always!

Excellent review! I tried both in the spring and went with the 130LR and from what I remember on the pivot your review is spot on and I weigh about 50 lbs more than you. Also while the 130 does reward aggressive riding styles I recently lent it to a friend and took him MTB for the second time and it worked really well (i.e. he had smile a mile wide after the ride). I noticed the comment below on the cascade link and I would appreciate if you could have Tyler review the differences between stock. There are a couple of rocky/steeper trails that I ride and I keep bottoming out and was in-between adding spacers or changing the linkage. Thanks!

Yeti is definitely smoother. Tested an SB100 and didn't feel like I was going as fast as normal on my Blur TR and had several PRs. Ultimately, I think it was so much smoother I didn't realize that I was going faster.... its the suspension

Hello from Switzerland, fellow riders! Love the channel, thank you very much for the inspirational content, Jason. I‘m looking for a new one bike quiver, coming from a 2018 Norco Sight. Hometrails are quite rough and rowdy, shuttling is not a thing for me, so it has to be at least OK on the uphill. I’m about the same size as Jason, only a little bit heavier. Trying to decide between the SB130LR, the Hightower and the new Sentinel. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I use to own a yeti sb130lr and now own a switchblade. I also agreed the yeti kept you very far forward on the bike. I also thought it got caught up in super tech dh. If you want to go fast and ride by all the features then yeti sb130lr. If you want to cruise and hit every feature on the trail switchblade all day.

This dude completely sold me on the 130 so glad he did.

Yeah, I should say this might be due to my lighter weight.... I think average people (175-230 lbs) might have a different experience. It could be the tune on the shock and if I were to have kept the Switchblade an entire season, I would have taken it to a custom shock tuner and had it re-worked.

Im definitely leaning toward Pivot 429 enduro or blade because my local trails require CLIMBING. Have you tried the new Trance X advanced pro 29?

A proper head to head, and one that I had hoped would help be decide which to buy, personally I am leaning towards the Yeti for one main reason, they offer a frame only option allowing a truly bespoke build unlike the Pivot which sadly don't, decision made.

How tall are you? I'm a little over 6'1 and going back and forth between the L and XL Switchblade...

I know my comment about bikes is kind of apples to oranges but one thing you mentioned is how the pivot climbs. I have a Mach6 carbon and I’m totally impressed with the climbing characteristics, I rarely ever have to lockout the rear shock. It’s interesting to me because the rear suspension linkage is totally different between the switchblade and the Mach6. This said I think climbing is just something pivot has just figured out.

Yeah, I thought the Mach 6 climbed better than the Mach 5... the M6 is a very cool bike that I don't think got the attention it deserves.

@@mtbyumyum I had a Mach 6 for a couple years and then demoed a Mach 5.5 and I also thought the 6 climbed better. It's a really good bike that should get more credit.

In the vid you mentioned the LR felt smoother than the switchblade. Would you say the LR smoothness is the same as the standard 130?

I agree with you on the chatter of the SB. I have a SB currently and had a lunch ride 130. I thought it was going to be smoother at higher speeds. I also have an Alchemy Arktos ST and it is smoother than the SB at speed and climbs as well. Still love my SB though! Thanks for your reviews and recommending Salt Cycle.

Would be great to see you do more Head-to-Head and Shootouts between bikes, since all of us are all interested in the pros & cons of each bike without the opportunity to ride all of them back-to-back. Good comparo! I recently got the Ripley and it is a great bike but feels outgunned on the more technical high-altitude trails. I can manage but as I get older, I think a second bike with a little more travel and that still CLIMBS tech well and also can go (albeit a bit slower than the Ripley) on 4-5 hour high-altitude rides with 4K-6K of climbing, would be fantastic. It is hard to find demos right now. Thinking of the Switchblade, Hightower, Offering, and Rascal. Any thoughts on which one or ones to focus on? Help! Oh, I'm 175 lbs and ride between 9K-12K elevation usually.

Time to review some Transition bikes not sure if you have done so that would be great. Keep up the reviews they are great!

I recent rode the Spur but I'd like to get some time on their longer travel bikes.

What’s your opinion on DPX2 vs X2 for mid travel bikes like these?

The yeti130 is a fun bike to ride but I sold mine after 6months due to longevity concerns. The rear end has too much flex for heavy riders in catch berms, you can feel the rear wheel rubbing the frame when pushing hard. Plus the lower frame is prone to rock strikes in technical terrain, finally the infinity link (even when maintained) does not fear well in winter conditions. Would definitely reconsider the bike if the first two items were addressed in a future addition.

Could you drop a comment on why you have ranked the pivot yeti and ibis and more importantly, how they compare? Thank you!

J. I need your help, The Following-SB115 or Ripley?

These are the exact two bikes i'm looking to replace my SB5 with. The switchblade was amazing. The 130 was definitely as exactly as you described....requires more from the rider to get the most out of it and I still need to demo it again to make the suspension feel a little bit better. It definitely likes to skip over stuff fast, which if you're not used to that could be viewed as a rougher ride but it's definitely fast. What made you get rid of the ripmo for the switchblade?

I never owned the V2 Ripmo.... I had the original ripmo in 2019 but sold it at some point to get more time on the Rocky Mountain Instinct BC edition...

I own the switchblade and its the ultimate bike! May not be the slackest bike but the suspension on this bike is insane...that redone dpx2 is filthy. I know yumyum only weighs approx 140 lbs which I think hurts him from getting that plushy feeling I get with the Switchblade. I weigh 215lbs and its so buttery. And yumyum ain't joking about climbing...the pivot is a billy goat! Sit in the saddle and just climb anything. It was down to 3 bikes for me...the switchblade...yeti sb140 which i would compare more to the Switchblade then the 130 and the specialized stumpjumper evo. All great bike but something about that switchblade just sucks you in!! Also I would add that when you get on the switchblade its like ur in a cockpit...its tough to explain but if you get on other bikes and then the switchblade you will feel that wierd feeling which I like a lot....feels likes your more stacked over the bike. And btw happy to Thanksgiving to everyone.

Excellent! Yeah, the Switchblade has an incredibly neutral and welcome feeling. It is the perfect geometry in my experience for a trail bike. 10/10

Please review the Orbea Occam! It sits in the same range as these 2 and deserves a look. Please...

The Occam is a long legged trail bike vs an all mountain/enduro rig. It’s an efficient peddler and a great all rounder but can get in over its head in the gnar.

Greatly appreciate the content! Ran into some folks visiting steamboat wearing salt cycles jerseys this summer and was stoked. Had to ask if they knew MTBYumYum! Deciding between switchblade and standard yeti sb130 for my do everything bike. Only have room for one bike in the van and want something that can do everything from bikepark to bikepacking. Want a bike I could do the CO trail on one week and rip trestle bike park the next. What would be your opinion between the two? Thanks!

I own a 130lr and am a casual user. Ride amazingly, climbs well and rolls fast. Definitely an awesome comparison but think the SB130 is also for the casual rider due to the longer length. Great stability means easier to ride and more comfortable ride.

A casual or less aggressive rider would likely have a better experience on an Ibis Ripley, Ripmo or this Switchblade depending on terrain and speed. Of course, the SB130 LR will get anyone out on the trail but it's best to match the bike to the rider, terrain and speed in my experience. ymmv!

Switchblade looks killer. Wondering if you're going to review a couple of others in this category...the new Stumpy, and the latest RM Altitude (and/or Instinct)?

MTB yumyum, really enjoy your reviews keep it up! I was inspired to purchase an Ibis Ripley with a Pike Ultimate 140mm fork last year and really enjoy it. The Ripley has inspired me to ride harder and jump larger gaps ect... I find my Front fork is out performing the rear stock shock. I was thinking of perhaps going to a Ripmo or simply replacing the rear shock in the Ripley with a DPX2... thoughts?

I would step up to the Ripmo before putting a dpx2 on the Ripley... if you feel like you're finding the limits of the Ripley you will likely really appreciate all the Ripmo has to offer where the Ripley might be getting a bit overwhelmed. That said, give the new Pivot Switchblade a good long look... it's like a long travel xc bike with similar geo to the Ripley but with better high speed manners, more stability and still climbs really very well... if you end up using the links below my video's to competitive cyclist to purchase, it makes a huge difference for me. I'm in AZ and also a small business owner who likes to support local when possible BUT it's the boost issue you mention, i have a really great wheel set I plan on keeping. I owned an SB100 prior to the Ripley and do enjoy a light playfull bike. Yeti's are great but their frames are heavy in comparison to Ibis. Like you say, it's a great time to be a Mtn biker and it's hard to go wrong with Ibis, Pivot or Yeti's. Surprised you don't mention the Revel Rascal much these lost few Clips. Oh, i did purchase the Labaustere hip pack and it's great!

I'm really interested in picking up a switchblade. Have there been any bikes in the last 3 years that have been released that can compete with it on that excellent pedal efficiency for its category?

How do these compare to the Tallboy? Just got a 20’ Tallboy and love it, but I like to try a new brand every 2-3 years or so, and that Switchblade and the SB-130 catch my eye. Seems the Switchblade is more to the XC side? as you say?

The tallboy would get dropped on the really rough terrain but for a 120mm bike is surprisingly capable. I would say the tallboy is better for more mellow trails than either of these bikes...

Any chance we can get your opinion of the Switchblade on 27.5” wheels before you part with it? Does it make it any more fun/playful? Or is it mostly a marketing point?

It just means it's slightly more demanding to ride it at it's limit. For an intermediate rider, you might not even notice. Bikes like the Ibis Ripmo are slightly easier to ride at a more chill pace.... easier meaning the bike is more willing to get through corners... but as you get better at cornering, and riding the bike harder it will become more rewarding to ride.

I'm between the switchblade and the ripley to act as my more trail-focused bike. I have a Hightower LT CC with a 160 Fox 38 which is good on the downhill sections, but I want something that is more comfortable, lighter, and easier to climb with so that I can have my HT be my bike for stuff like South Mountain, but then something like a Ripley for the trails out in Mesa and Sedona. Thoughts?

I will add my 2 cents - the weight of my sb130clr frame size L is 32.8 lbs (difference in weight between turq and carbon frame is only 250 grams, for me this is not an issue, i am heavy rider anyway). But I can bring it down to 31/31.5 with lighter tires. Assagai is very grippy tire, but it is heavy. I do get pedal strikes, once in a while, same goes for the other bikes. really depends on the terrain. The only reason why I went with yeti is because of my weight 225lbs, this is the only bike which really supportive and pedal bob is minimalistic and pedals just great.. love it.

After dozens of rides in a number of different trail systems and terrain including Deer Valley lift service park, the sb130 LR has not suffered sever pedal strike problems... nothing notable.

I am a newbie and a casual rider. Now considering either the Hightower or the Switchblade upgraded from my hardtail. Which one you consider is easier to ride and is more suitable for a newbie to learn. I want a bike with good climbing efficiency but can handle decently going down. Leaning toward the Switchblade as it may climb better than the Hightower.

Yeah, Switchblade climbs better than the Hightower for sure... I would say the Switchblade would be an excellent upgrade coming from a hardtail.... it's also an incredible easy bike to ride so you'll feel right at home on it!! I'm in this conundrum right now. I have an Alchemy Arktos 135 but always wanted a Pivot, couldn't find one in stock for months. Finally found a Switchblade and ordered it. Now I have to se which one I like better and sell the loser as I can't afford to run 2, 7k bikes. Fun problem to have though

I noticed you called out the Switchblade as your favorite bike of 2020. But if I go back to your head to head of that bike and the Revel Rascal, you gave the edge to the Rascal. What changed? I think you built up a Rascal with a 150 Lyric and were pretty smitten about it. I built up a Rascal with a 150 Pike and love it, FYI.

I'd have to go back and watch that video... as I recall, I liked the uniqueness and rarity of the Rascal. I think the Switchblade out guns it in every area but they're very very close. for me, I could flip a coin.

Do u still ride the Ripley or has the switchblade taken it’s place in your quiver?

Switchblade can't take the place of the ripley... but for a long travel bike, it does "CX" better than most longer travel trail bikes. The geo of the Ripley and Switchblade are actually very similar. The Ripley is sportier and snappier feeling.... the Switchblade could never get below 26 pounds even with the lightest of tires... this is were the Ripley shines. It's light weight and can fly up hill and still smash the blue and black trails.

Nice comparison. The Yeti SB130TLR was my first modern mtb. I bought the 130LR because it was the best available back in June 2020. From day one, the Yeti has been awesome. After five months of aggressively pursuing greater and greater challenges, I've certainly grown into the 130LR. For a little while, I thought maybe I wanted a lighter XC oriented bike, since basically 2/3rds of my time is spent climbing. However, after demo'ing a short travel Orbea Oiz, I decided I don't care if the Yeti weighs 32 lbs., I prefer longer travel and slacker geo for a better experience on descents.

Nice, good to hear. I think the 130 LR is a good compromise for those looking for a cx/trail bike and a full blown enduro rig... it splits time better than most in my experience! Thus making it an excellent option if you only have 1 bike at a time and like to get rowdy!

So sb130lr or the ripmo 2? Guessing if you bought the sb it’s the one you preferred?

Honestly, you can't go wrong... they're just different. The Ripmo and Switchblade are more easy going than the sb130...

How do these bikes compare to the Revel Rascal? These 3 are on my shortlist.

My $.02 - Have a Rascal. Demoed a SB130. Haven’t had a chance to ride a Switchblade (but would like too). Rascal and SB130 are different bikes even though they have similar rear travel. SB130 is more aggressive while Rascal is more balanced. I love switch infinity, climbs very well. CBF climbs very well too. When I demoed both the clock told me I climbed faster on the Rascal. IMO, switch infinity feels on top of the trail more while the trail seems to disappear under you with CBF. Both are awesome bikes but each is probably better suited to different riding styles.

DAJ to the 3, very well said! I would only add that I thought the sb130 was more efficient. Meaning, it feels like it pedals better. This is different than "climbing" both climb well but I think the Rascal gets through techy or difficult sections of climbs maybe a little better than the sb130 but for your basic everyday blue trails, the sb130 is probably faster or responds better to really mashing on the pedals. Again, as mentioned, the Rascal feels more balanced, better trail manners and easier to ride.... feels bottomless compared to the sometimes harsh feeling of the sb130... sb130 feels sportier and stiffer. I should also mention, between the Rascal and Switchblade, you cant go wrong with either bike... I've owned both and have hundreds of miles on them. I would go switchblade personally but the absolute honest truth is, I could flip a coin between the Rascal and Switchblade... I'd be happy with either!

@@mtbyumyum I most certainly did and I know you loved that bike which is why I asked. I’m a “bigger” guy at 6’4” 220lbs, but did just pull the trigger on the sb115.... fingers crossed I like it haha

If you had asked me 3 years ago I would have said yes... hard to say now. I thought more manufactures would get on board... we'll see.

I’m confused, the Pivot is 142mm of travel and the Yeti is 137....you own both or have a twin??

haha yeah... I've been on the switchblade for a few months now... the Switchblade just went up for sale. Moving forward with the Yeti sb130 LR for the next few months. I swap bikes about every 4 months or so... in an effort to ride and experience more bikes. The Ripley was just recently sold as well...

My buddy Tyler (the dude riding in most of my videos) has the 130 LR with the Cascade Link... I'm sure we'll get some info on that at some point and upload it. Salt Cycles shop owner also runs the Cascade Link on his 130 LR

Really just comes down to the speed of the terrain you ride. The sb150 takes a bit more to wake up.

I would agree with Jason on that comment. This is where the v2 Ripmo is best. It's 147mm of travel, almost 150, but it doesn't take as much effort to wake it up as the Yeti SB150 does. The SB150 is an amazing bike but takes much more to get more from it. The Rimpo is much more playful and lively.

The ripmo and 130lr will be similarly capable. At the end of the day its up to your riding style. The ripmo is more playful and energetic. The 130lr is a rocket ship. It wants to go fast all the time. Climbing is a draw.

@@mmann1897 Well, the Ripmo is 147mm of rear travel, pretty much 150mm and the Lunch Ride is 137 I believe. So the Ripmo has more suspension in the rear to stabilize it in rough terrain. Ripmo comes standard with a 160mm front fork and can be run with a 170mm fork as I ride it with no issue. The Yeti is run with a 150mm fork and maxed out with a 160mm fork. Depending on your ability. I think they climb about the same, which saying a lot for the Ripmo because its big bike with more travel. I would say the Ripmo has the characteristics of the SB130LR in climbing and playfulness but is closer the SB150 in capability.

That compression tune on the switchblade is pretty heavy which would explain the teeth chattering.

Yeah, even after some swapping out of volume spacers, it can still get a little harsh... otherwise amazing bike!

Are those 31.8 diameter handlebar?

They're just different...

Looking at the Ripmo, SB130 and Switchblade now. It will probably come down to which one I can get. Hard to find Ripmos and Switchblades right now!

Call Chris at Salt Cycles... they're the Second highest volume Pivot dealer in the country and the 3rd highest volume Ibis dealer in the contry. I know they have sb130's and switchblades in stock... Ripmo's are on they're way and he'll likely get them before any other dealer... he's very good at this stuff!! Chris - 801-943-8502 he'll be back in the office Tuesday Dec. 1

I've owned the SB 130 and have time on both the Ripmo and the Switchblade. I've now owned the Forbidden Druid for close to a year and can confidently say that I think its the best all around bike of the 4.

seems to be a common yeti theme. just about every review says the yeti is not that good until you go mach chicken. not really into switch infinity as far as maintenance goes

Yeah... it's fun when you're feeling "on" but for just cruising around I think there's better options.

Get your hands on the new Mach 6.

Throw a coil on the blade and retest. You will be amazed

I did a review on the Pivot Shuttle years ago... go check it out! Ebikes are rad although I'm not personally interested in one...

Do you have a 6’2” friend who likes to swap out bikes as much as you? If so, I need to get his email so I can buy his bikes when he’s ready to move on.

Of the bikes I actually purchase, I usually only own them for 4-6 months in an effort to ride and try as many different bike as possible. Most of the bikes I never own, just demo's from a handful of shops in the Salt Lake City area...

it's interesting to see your response to the SB130. You can barely express yourself when talking about it. I have an SB140 and SB130. Despite their nearly identical dimensions they are very different. I have tackled stuff on the SB140 that I would never would have imagined. The SB130 is a different machine entirely and I agree it needs to be ridden off of the front. It can be uneasy at first but once you get it does give you the fiz. The SB140 you can ride with impunity on regular trails, steep terrain and it will get you through it. Disagree with the climbing vs DW link...but I think that comes down to style. If you tend to hammer the yeti will respond better where as the pivot tends to be firm but active while seated. Not surprisingly similar to the ibis Ripmo.

I've not had a bike that gets through techy climbs better than the Switchblade... the sb140 was a sled in my experience... incredibly stable and can handle just about anything at any speed!

I didn't get to take Pivot on any climbs I would consider techy when I tried it but it wouldn't surprise me . I tend to climb out of the saddle quite a bit and the Yetis seem to cope with this really well. My SB130 is half lunch ride-- 137mm in the back with the 150mm fork. I am enjoying the setup. Very good comparison video

I sold my 2019 Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride earlier this year and bought a 2020 Pivot Switchblade. It's a great bike!!! I sold it because I was really unhappy with Yeti for making a politically correct decision that I strongly disagreed with. In the past, Yeti used to refer to their community of riders as: "The Tribe." However, they removed that label because a goddamn social justice organization claimed this term was insensitive or harmful towards American Indians/indigenous peoples. This is a false claim without merit! The definition of "tribe" could be used to describe almost any group of people; regardless of race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, etc. It is simply absurd to think that any particular group or organization has a lock on the phrase: "The Tribe" and would try to prevent others from using it. They successfully pressured Yeti to do this and out of sheer moral cowardice and fear of losing money; Yeti acquiesced to their demand. I have no respect for Yeti. Why should we follow orders from social justice organizations? If we do what they say today, what will they demand of us tomorrow? If you believe in FIGHTING AGAINST CENSORSHIP; don't buy products from companies like Yeti. If we're not vigilant today about "small" acts of censorship, they will inevitably become much larger in the future. Thanks for reading this.

haha I actually just recently sold it... at the time I filmed this video (4-5 weeks ago) I still had it. I've had the Ripley for a really long time and I'm ready to start looking around. I'm not sure there's a better option out there but we'll see!!

You must not have ridden the custom tuned DPX2 on the switchblade. The X2 would ruin the handling IMO unless you’re really good at tuning them. It really is unnecessary.
