Recently i bought a Volvo s90. I tell you Bowers & wilkins systems are just a joy to listen to super crisp and clear. Probably the best sound system i have ever heard in a car.

This sound system is impressive! Hope someday as the technology evolves, we get this high quality in almost all the cars

I used to work for Volvo and have been considering buying a new v60 with b&w. I remembered the system being fantastic but this video just got me excited about it all over again. I can’t wait. I’m only listening to this on an iPhone with EarPods in and the audio sounded like a crisp track straight out of my music app. It really is a phenomenal system.

An absolute must have option for a Volvo!

I'm in the market for a V60 with B&W but seems to me that nobody wants to sell theirs! There are just no cars on the market with it, shows how good it is! I'll keep waiting and driving my v50 with standard audio! boo!

Excellent review, thank you. The B&W system sold me on the Volvo S90 two years ago. I love it. I’m a purist audiophile and near-exclusively play music with the “Individual Stage” with “intensity” and “Envelopment” all the way down. For me, that sounds the most like the “Pure” audio that I experience on the B&W 802 Diamond system in my calibrated studio in which I do mastering work. I also compliment you on your comment at the end about the system in the XC60 possibly sounding even better. For my next car, I’m definitely going to consider either XC60 or XC90 for their larger interiors and better acoustics. Have you compared the XC60 to the XC90? I just read that Volvo is using an upgraded B&W system starting in the 2021 models, supposedly even featuring noise cancellation. Volvo is clearly distinguishing itself for audiophiles like me. And yes: I totally agree that this B&W system has better acoustics than the Diamond-tweeter-based one in the BMWs. If money were no option I’d also consider the Porsche Panamera with its Burmester sound system. I haven’t auditioned it yet. Is it really going to sound better than this Volvo B&W system?

Here’s a valuable tip for getting the very best sound: I use the “KaiserTone” music player app on my iPhone connected to by S90’s USB port through a quality USB cable. KaiserTone allows up sampling to 96kHz. With this setup, the B&W system in my Volvo S90 really shines. I bet that the reviewer would immediately notice the further improvement with his WAV files playing through KaiserTone and the up sampling setting, which gives an “easier”, “analogue-like” presentation. Obviously using 96kHz high res material without upsampling is even more awesome. I realize not many people would stuff their phones with high res files and the upsampling in KaiserTone is a really good second.

I'm glad you enjoyed! We're admittedly not audio professionals life yourself, so it's nice to get an informed perspective. We haven't had a chance to test the Panamera, but I can say the Mercedes-Benz Burmester systems are the best competitors to the Volvos that I've heard. The Mark Levinson in the GX 460 is quite good as well. - Charlie

Absolutely wonderful job, keep up the good work, I assume you are in the US so I was wondering if you could do the Bose “Panaray” sound system in the Cadillac CT6. Or maybe the sound system in the Volvo S00 :)

@@spicymemesz Go to your local Volvo dealer and see if they have any cars equiped with the B&W sound system in them, that is what I did.

How does this compare to the upgrade stereo system in the Mercedes?

You muthertrucker! First I watch the S90 B&W video where you say that the bass is a tiny bit bit better in the V60 and V90 and then I watch the this review and you say that the XC60 have the edge on this one :P

Could you give me your opinion on the differences between the Volvo B&W, Lexus Mark Levinson, and Acura ELS systems? I’m looking at a Volvo S60, Lexus ES350, and Acura TLX. I want the best system and it’s hard to test drive these vehicles, due to availability. I want a good sound system with full mid and low bass. I have an Audi A5 with the B&O system. I had to add a sub just to get the mid and low bass I like. I found the system lacking. I want better sound. What are your thoughts? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

Hmmm, I'll give it a shot. I didn't like how that track didn't sound very crisp, but it did have a good bass line. Either that or I've considered looking for a good hip hop track to use as well. Thanks!

10% volume is not a unit of measure, also watts and dB(A) are not necessarely correlated.
