Either add power or disconnect the shift linkage at the transmission (cable shift models). If you shift to neutral with the cable that will be only to load or move and not safe to tow any distance more than a mile or two.

Is this safe if gas was put in a desiel in order to tow?

I would pull the fuel pump fuse or relay prior to powering up the ignition. If that’s not possible just hook it from the rear or disco the shift cable to load it up on a deck. Whatever you do don’t cycle the fuel system. If possible disconnect the battery so the service shagger doesn’t hit the key for the odometer and run that pump. Just keep that fuel in the tank and don’t let it go through the system. If it was driven mixed then don’t worry about it.

@@kevefox it wasn't driven. The fuel was disconnected and ran into a bucket before cycling the engine. I assume that this is okay?
