I'm between the GT Pro and the Rally Pro...after looking hard at the XR and the Tracer. I've literally gone from one, to the other, to land on the Triumph....now between the GT and the Rally. I guess I gotta test ride em. Great review as usual Scott.

Thanks for the review. I demoed the gt pro a few weeks back against the scrambler 1200 and it really surprised me. Rally pro in green would be my choice to upgrade from my current 2008 Triumph Sprint...I will miss that bike. Cheers and stay safe!

I have ridden this bike recently, and it just blew me away. I honestly did not think that it would be as good as they projected it to be. Damn, my list for a replacement adventure bike just increased by one!! I too would get the Green colour. Hoping you and your family come through this virus episode with flying colours. AND YES, this really is a very good middleweight ADV bike, no question about that. Triumph really upped their game with this bike...now they need to do it with the 1200 too! Thank you Kevin. The Speed Triples, Tiger Sports, Explorers, Rocket IIIs and Daytonas are built in the U.K. the rest are usually built it in Thailand. But it really depends on where the parts come from, so logistics is the driving force here, if the majority come from Europe/American suppliers, then built in U.K. if not then Thailand. Triumph has become just like any other OEM, everything is sourced on a global scale regardless of country.

Hi & thanks for another very nice informative honest review; 2 thumbs up for you. Please also review the Tiger 900 GT. As i ride 85 % on asphalt & only 15 % on gravel & light dirt roads, i think i would prefer the GT to have more fun in twisty roads with the 19 inches front wheel. Best regards from Montreal. Na, it was constantly out of focus and has an internal battery, so when it goes dead when I'm out on a review, it's dead, period, can't just put in another battery and keep going, that and a few other issues with it, is the reason I no longer use it. I think I'll put it up on ebay soon because now it just sits at home. It is a great camera, it just does not fit my needs for a motorcycle review. Want to buy it from me? :)

I'm a Triumph fan boy, love triples and my speed 1050. Thanks for another great review, giving us more info with less hype. It's great to see Triumph making competitive machinery and taking the battle to BMW. I also have a z1000sx, its a popular bike and a well regarded touring machine but you're making me think the Tiger (GT version) might take its place, although I'd probably miss the 140 BHP!! However, I'm sure there's a Tiger 1200/1250 waiting in the wings?

I rode the BMW F900 XR last week, I liked it but the demo bike was setup with the lowered suspension and lower seat, so it wasn't a good fit for me. Didn't get to ride it very long either but I am interested how you set your new BMW up, what options did you choose etc. I really want to ride the Triumph Tiger 900 before I purchase one or the other. I currently ride a 2013 Trophy SE. I appreciate your candid reviews! Thanks, two thumbs up!

Thank you Alex, Yea, the Rally is high but that's the off-road focus, the GT has a much lower seat, 810 & 830 mm heights. So that'd be a better fit for a 30" inseam.

Echoing Scott's comment - I have a GT Pro and closer to a 30" inseam and its absolutely fine. Amazing bike, having recently sold my 1250GS (low), I way prefer the Tiger.

Great review sir! Is there any downside of 21” front when on the road comparing to 19”? That green colour of rally pro is my favourite but most of my riding is on tarmac. I’m not into speed. Regards

Very nice 1st hand review, thanks! As for any upgrade, happy enough to own a 2-year old Tiger800 XCA and being a true Triple-fun for true silky super-smooth engines (also BMW K75) I would not upgrade for some more low-end grunt and torque...

Well, I've been in need of a good middleweight all-rounder for about a year now and I've been secretly considering every bike that I ride as a potential purchase and the nice thing is that I ride about 35 bikes a year 😁 so I can really see and feel what the market has to offer. Some things are very important to me, 1) NOT a heavyweight: as I want to ride it every day and small enough to maneuver around in small areas. 2) Highway: as I often ride long distances to do a review. 3) Comfortable: riding position, wind protection...etc. very important. 4) Connectivity: hey, the tech is there, so why not use it and I will with what I'm doing. 5) Payload: the carrying capacity is big for me, as I take a lot of equipment to my reviews and not every bike requires the same equipment. For me at this moment in time, it's just the right fit, an all-rounder that does everything and does it well. Ride safe, Scott

Thank you! I’ve been waiting for a “real person” review of this bike! One question: how did you find the windscreen? IMHO previous Tigers have suffered from excessive buffeting at highway speeds. Just wondering if you experienced that or would an aftermarket screen be in order? Thanks!

Thank you John, The windscreen was a point of interest for me too as previous Tiger 800's were inadequate imho too. And I did get this up to highway speeds, just didn't have time to show in video, and it was very good, in the medium position, no buffeting at all, in fact the wind didn't even hit the top of my helmet, it was so high...and this was the medium position...so I imagine it will be fine for taller riders too. Loved this bike when I tried it, tried out the F900 as well, the Triumph 900 GT Pro would be my choice but until work picks up a little more, caution has to be the watchword. For me the engine and handling,looks and general feel just swing it for me.One point I would make is that I take the dealer into account in the buying decision, BMW dealers take a lot of beating. Ride safe.

Yes, I've been wanting an "all-rounder" "daily rider" that will do everything and do it all well and this fit me perfectly. AND after spending almost 600 km on the demo bike that I did the "short term review", I just kept falling more in love with it, the more I rode it the more I loved it. So I ordered one, RED of course with the engine spoiler and hard red luggage bags to carry all my camera gear. BUT, yesterday the BMW plant in Berlin where my bike is gong to be built shut down because of corona. So who knows when I'll take delivery of it. :(

Oh, tough question. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Looks, sound, brakes, weight, wind protection, heated seat = Tiger. Display, low-down torque, suspension, keyless, controls - ease of use = 850. I've taken the 850 off-road at an actual off-road park all day but not the Tiger...so I can't compare there. I really don't know. Which ever one I could get the best deal would be my deciding factor. :)

You bought the F900XR? Welcome to the club! Funny thing is, my XR is already in the garage but couldn't ride it yet. In fact, until now, I don't know how this bike even feels. btw great review as always!

Hi Scott, hoping you're keeping safe over there in Germany. Typical stellar review. Now I would need some enlightening about your praise for the bolted on swing arm unlike welded one. What's the advantage/benefit of having the former besides not breaking at the joints under load? Also after having watched several reviews of the mid and heavy weight adventure bikes ranging from 650 cc to 1300cc, the issue of 21 inch front wheel vs handling has been cropping up in most and the reviewers we're critical for it's vague feel due to less contact patch. You gave this wheel a thumbs up. What was your feel? I believe all owners of these kinds of bikes do off road 15% or 20% of the time so this is significant for them. I'd even go ahead and say that the success of the BMW GSs has to do with the 19 inch wheels on them despite their weight and even cost! Kindly share your thoughts. Sorry if any of these has been asked before. Best wishes Scott.

Yes, I plan to do a video on it and everything but now as of yesterday the BMW plant in Berlin is shut down, so I won't get it in the first week of April :( Who knows for how long the plant will be shut down...I'm hoping by May I can get it.

NothingToProve Hi Scott, watching all your videos and am enjoying them very much . Ijust sold my 1250 GS because i wanted to downsize, the weight of a bike seems to be more and more important to me. Just yesterday I bought a F900xr in red with the engine spioler of course largely thanks to your review and some testrides, one could really see how you liked the bike, My dealer had a few red ones pre-orderd and one was the exact spec I would have ordered it from the facrory. I am living in Austria and we are under a lockdown right now and unable to get the bike registred, even though it sits at the dealer. I am guessing we will start to ride our bikes right about the same time, please keep up thr goog work, cheers jeff

Thank you Mark, Well, if you want the electronic suspension then the SE is the way to go. But if that's not so important then the Tiger is the way to go in every other way. Sit on both and take them for a spin, as soon as you sit on a bike you should get that "yes" feeling and which ever one does that to you then get it. Ride safe, Scott

Hi! First of all, congratulations for your channel and videos! If you have to choose between bmw f850gs (with all the options added to match the price to the triumph) and the triumph tiger rally pro, which one do you prefer? (i'm such a new rider but i'm in love with this off road motorcycles...). I will use it every day to the city to go to work and weekends to have some km (and maybe in future some off road if i learn a bit). In the other hand i'm also in love to bmw f900xr and the triuph street twin. Street twin is the most i like of all but i know is worst than the others. Wich one will you reccomend me? Maybe 1 to start and after 3 or 4 years i can change...? Let me know. Thanks!!! I know there are sooo kind different vehicles but... I'm in love with all haha.

Thank you, I'd take the Rally Pro over the GS and the XR over the Street Twin but that is me, you might have different reasons for why and how you ride, pick with your heart and you will be happy :)

The bikes are in two different categories, therefore the focus is on different things, one is an adv/tour and the other is a sport/tour. I would like the latter. That is the first thing. 2) TFT: & the connectivity. Sure the Tiger is good but the BMW is just better, function over form 3) Suspension: road focus vs. on/off road focus. I could go much faster in a corner on the BMW 4) Looks: I just don't like the looks of ADV bikes 5) Riding Position: BMW just fits like a glove, Tiger does not and is a little high for my taste 6) Weight: Tiger's weight is a little higher up and therefore feels heavier, even though on paper they are the same. 7) Power: more torque and lower in the rev range All in all the bikes are pretty equal, it just comes down to a matter of what one wants and that will determine which bike one picks. What do I like about the Tiger over the BMW? 1) Wind protection is better 2) Exhaust note is better - way better 3) Brakes: Brembo Stylema - the best in the world, so 2 levels above the Brembo M4.32 on BMW 4) Back lit controls 👍 5) Quick Shifter: Triumph QS is world class very few other OEM's come close to Triumph's That's just off the top of my head for now. You're almost as tall as me (5'10") so it will depend on your inseam, mine is 32" and the low seat height (850mm/33.5") height is perfect for me. Take care, Scott

Would LOVE to know your favourite between Honda African Twin 1100 (Adventure Sport), Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro and Suzuki V-Strom 1050..? If it was mainly for: simple countryside rides, street/city usage (full of pot holes and bumps: Mtl & Montérégie, QC) and some unavoidable (long) highways’ rides too. *Looking for: Power/fun factor, maneuverability, reliability, under 530 pounds ideally, comfort, upright riding position or slightly forward. *Practically no off-road, as of now at least. Just 1-day-trips mostly, occasionally with a passenger. My *current moto: Triumph Speedmaster 900 (2007). ANY ADVICE?

Thank you. Well, I haven't ridden the V-Strom as of yet, so I cannot compare it. But the other two I have. Power: both are close but the AT has a little more grunt down low in the rev-range (bigger engine) Fun Factor: Tiger 900 Rally wins there for me. The triple motor makes you smile more. Maneuvers: Tiger wins - it just seemed easier to turn in and braking was a bit sharper (Brembo's) Reliability: Honda is just hard to beat in this category. Weight: Tiger is lighter and feels lighter too. Wind protection/highway: Both are about the same So it really depends on what your heart wants 😊 Good luck trying to decide! Ride safe, Scott

Thank you. Well, I have not taken either one off-road, now the old AT1000 I did take off-road and it was great, in fact about the best heavyweight ADV bike I've ridden off-road. And I have not taken any Tigers off-road, down some light trail but that's it. So, I can't really say/give a judgement on Tigers for off-road. Sorry. If I had to guess, I think I'd take the Tiger for on-road and the AT for off-road. So it looks like you need two bikes! LOL!!!

Good review of the bike. I have a lot of questions to ask you about the bike but for now only a couple of questions: Could you show us the 4 or 5 different screen graphics that Triumph offers? I understand that there is one of them that revolutions look better but I have not seen them yet in videos or photos. Does the rear shock also have the possibility to regulate compression or is it only adjustable for rebound and preload? I have a BMW F850 GS that I want to sell because, among other problems, I am not comfortable and the Triumph Tiger Rally Pro is the one I want to buy. Thanks and you enjoy.

Yes, the rear suspension is fully adjustable - manually on Rally and you can only get the electronic rear suspension on the GT Pro. I hope this answers your questions, ride safe and take care, Scott

Thank you Michael, Well weight is a concern for you, and me too. So going by weight of the 1150GS, the 850GS is about 6-8 kg lighter but the Tiger is about 30 kg lighter. So you might want to take a look at the Tiger and see how it feels. Especially if you like the triple more than the twin motor. But if you really want to go light the KTM790ADV and Yamaha 700 Tenere are more than 50kg lighter. Good luck, Scott

I don't care too much for those Adventure-Bikes with the 21" front wheel. I think they look weird and feel weird. I know that this is crazy. But after all I would never go offroad on a motorcycle, so I don't need those. I would prefer the GT if i were to buy an Tiger 900, but she lacks the shaft-drive, so it is no issue to me. Requiring shaft drive limits your choice to mostly BMW 1200 or 1250

Indeed some very good information from a rider's perspective 👏 What would you honestly recommend between the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and the Africa Twin 1100 Adventure Sports ( Manual Transmission and Suspension ) if someone were looking for a fun, spirited and versatile motorcycle?!

The Tiger is more fun but the AT is the kind of bike that I'd opt for taking around the world because it's so versatile, meaning it does everything well, on or off-road.

Nice bike ! Hard to justify the price over my Versys 650. 2x the price and mine rides great too. Maybe someday.

Bud Carr Versys 650 is fantastic best value mid weight! If only there was a deluxe model with cruise control, heated grips, heated seat and electronic Suspension - wait, that would increase the price $ 5000. Let’s keep the verses 650 as is.

Old Timer Ya agree on the cruise control ! I put oxford grips on and Corbin seat and have the LT ABS model. For under $9000 can’t go wrong.

You can change the dash for a clearer rev counter

Man I’m trying to decide this or 850 gs. I’m so in between. This is a bit cheaper in my country.

I keep hearing that the bolted subframe is a good thing, could somebody explain me why?

It's a matter of efficiency...LOL! Like your name. Bend/crack/break the subframe and just undue 4 bolts and you can replace it. If it's welded to the main frame, well you get the point, the whole frame needs to be replaced...it's just more efficient if you go down and hit the tail end on something :)

I wish I could say this without sounding too critical... In town manners of the Rally Pro version? Who cares about that? How about off the beaten trails manners? No problems, no worries. 😁 The tires were street biased and would have been terrible off-road, that is the main reason I didn't take this off-road, if it had 70/30 tires on it then I would have taken it off-road, also the bike was not officially licenced as a demo bike as of yet, so I was careful because of that too, if I crashed and the police got involved, it would not have been a good situation 😒 For those two reasons, I kept it safe and on the road. Maybe later on this summer, I'll take this same bike off-road and do the entire review off-road. Been thinking about doing something like that for a while now, this gives me a push to do it now 😊 Especially if I wait long enough for the current tires to wear down and I'll ask them to put some 70/30 tires on it, then for sure, a 100% off-road review will come out!

Not apples to apples obviously, but this or the versys 1000? How's in town flickability in comparison?

This, no question. Verysys 1000 is just way too heavy and the weight is high.

If I'm going to go around the world, give me the AT, if I'm going to stay on the road and stay local, give me the Tiger 900. :)

Sure I know lots of guys that use it everyday, no problem. But the 900 is 21 kg lighter than the AT and the AT carries it's weight a little higher then the Tiger...imho. So the Tiger feels alot lighter than the AT. So over time that might be something you want to consider for an everyday ride.

The biggest complaint most "pro" reviewers will say is that it's NOT a BMW. They also always say T's brakes and suspension suck, so what will they say now? Oh I know, It's NOT a KTM. Sigh.

I say brakes and suspension are good on all Triumphs except for the Street Twin, they do suck on that but that is the only one. LOL! I also say that Triumph makes the best transmissions in the world and the best triples in the world. Wow, I really like Triumphs, didn't know that. LOL!

@@NothingToProve Most paper rags or "pro" opinions are that a T isn't a BMW or a KTM therefore, it's not worthy of any positive press. It simply proves why I pay no attention to them outside of seeing what a bike looks like. How much money a company buys in advertising = +/- press.

Big fault in my opinion with cruise you cancel it by drawing clutch in slightly revs go through the roof? Surprised you went for the XR I felt Tiger much better ride and engine a peach found the XR engine was poor didn't sound good v Tiger

Can you compare to the Ktm 790R?? Thanks

I have not been on the R as of yet, therefore I cannot give a comparison. Sorry.

For being a rally model it sure doesn't offer much protection to the engine and body pannels..Just those 2 little dinky engine guards..

I prefer the Tiger 800

XR has a Chinese motor. Welcome to globalism comrade.
