It’s crazy how much they changed this bag. I still have my old Jester from 2006 and I use it everyday for work.

Actually one of the main reasons I wanted to buy this bag it was because of the backpannel having no mesh. My previous Borealis although is a great bag, ruined many of my clothes because of friction coming from the back mesh. Keep up the good work George!

Good review! Like the honesty can't say this is the bag to get but was thinking about it.

Nice video George. I got a Jester in 2018, it's a decent basic bag, then I got a 2019 model RECON. I like the design but I found a RECON similar to the yellow you talked about awhile. I'll tell you. The only thing I would change on the older Yellow Recon would be the water bottle pockets. The 2019 WBP are better for conforming to different size bottles. But of the 3 TNF bags, the older RECON is best hands down! Thanks again for another great review.

Love these reviews man. That intro got me. I don’t even need a bag I just like watching these reviews. I have a 2019 north face surge that’s my edc and I just bought a north face top loader daypack as a back up/light bag. The top loader is 16 liters and a really really simple bag. Seems like they’re making a bunch of simplified bags to compliment their well known bags. I appreciate you putting out the good content.

I'm new to your channel. I just bought this bag last week. It's an older model with the mesh. At first glance I said, great it's a North Face! As I looked at the zipper brand, fabric and dense shoulder straps I said nah. That's a disappointment. But hey, I have no room to complain for $5.25 at a thrift store. I'm washing/ sanitizing it today and have a use for it. You were spot on point for point with my evaluation too. Good job. ☕🙂👍

Great video! Just a random thought... you’ve previously used a toy gun for demo purposes. Similarly, you could create a fake 17-inch laptop out of plywood and/or other materials to preempt any frequently asked questions.

Wish I would've seen your review a couple weeks ago! At least I got it much cheaper. Got this one at Marshall's for $39 and took it to DisneyWorld. Although It did the job, I can't say I'd recommend as I hated the front compartment that spit out my items whenever I opened it. Maybe I needed those little pouches though. LOL.

Just bought a tnf vault new version and still in shipping. Not getting my hopes high now.

Does it have the same space in the large main compartment as the borealis ?

There's nothing more frustrating and disappointing than being let down by a brand you used to admire. Maybe they should have just come up with an entirely different brand for this budget line, like so many of the knife companies have done. Thanks, as always, for the candid review.

I have heard lots of people like this brand because of the quality. I have a jansport backpack and the zippers feel like they’re gonna give soon and I recently just got it.

I got 3 of this version, green, yellow and blue... i think this very cool and the most important it made in indonesia which stich and bartack quality is better than vietnam IMO...

He’s super entertaining.

I just bought this bag yesterday and waiting for delivery I thought I'd check out some reviews, I'd be disappointed by what you've said but I got it on sale for £20 ($27) roughly.. which I think is a bargain even if it isn't the best bag they do

is this backpack waterproof for a laptop if it rains?

Just got this bag, not sure if I’ll keep it yet. I was looking to update my daily/travel bag. Currently have a Oakley bag which is great expect for the small front pockets, and side mesh pockets do not hold water bottles without falling out . I’ve used all kinds of bags over the years , from frame ruck sacks to plain school JanSports . I’ve yet to find the “perfect” bag . My ideal EDC bag would have 3 ascending cavity’s (large, Med, small) the smallest still large enough for phone/wallet/keys. 2 durable water bottle pockets, made from a durable waterproof material. I DO NOT like a whole bunch of zippers/clips/storage areas on my bags. 3 areas is enough, and more causes confusion in my daily use . Ideally sleek looking and would go with a variety of outfits

The recon definitely has better shoulder straps.. I haven't had discomfort with them.

So they redesigned the backpack again but they failed to address the half admin pack that is basically useless and steals space from the main compartment? Man, everyone was complaining about that. I was really hoping they adjusted this, I gave back a recon for that horrible pocket

Thank you for this comment. I noticed the updated Women's Jester and was hoping they would eventually update their Recon. However, I am disappointed to read they did not update that organizational panel. That was like the #1 thing I hoped they had changed. You are right, everyone was complaining about that. Sounds like they are cutting corners smh. It is probably easier to make a backpack that stands up vs. Redesigning the organizational panel.

I find the quality of the new Jester backpack has failed. Overall I think all North Face backpack designs have gotten worse than before.

This bag is $40 on Amazon in select colors which I think is good value.
