2020 Street Bob - What I Love And What I Hate

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The list of things I love about my 2020 Street Bob is far longer than the things I hate. I had to really reach deep to come up with a list of hate. So take a ride with me and I’ll talk about what I love, and what I hate about the Harley-Davidson Street Bob!

I absolutely love what they’ve done with the new SB for 21. The new tank graphics, the colors, the pillion, rear pegs, and of course the 114 engine!! But the 2020 and earlier have such a clean, slick, minimal, tank look and that brown you got is absolutely beautiful 🤩.

You have a beautiful Street Bob. The Street Bob is a very nice bike. Very nice introductory level model. The negatives for me are the fuel tank size. The seat. Ride all day long and the seat and fuel capacity get's to be an issue. The lack of LED lighting. Other than those mentioned I'd own one. For me I went with the 2018 Heritage Classic and the 2019 Sport Glide. Both models exceed my needs for long distance riding/touring. Both are also great for short rides and commuting. Well worth the price of admission. I enjoy your videos. Take Care.

I've got a 2019 Street Bob, and I agree with some of this. My brakes don't squeak. I fitted a set of V&H Eliminator 300 slip ons and I found it very simple. Four bolts, two clamps and you don't even need to take off the heat shields. Took about twenty minutes. I can't comment on the seat because I changed mine before I collected the bike. I totally agree about the standard footpeg position which is too high and makes the bike cramped for anyone over about 5'5". I've also put forward controls my bike. The brake position on the forward control kit is horrible though, far too low and hard to press. I changed mine to a billet style brake lever. The other big issue for me is that Harley don't put span-adjustable brake and clutch levers on their bikes.

I will have to go back to the dealer for better results. The bike comes with a 5 gallon gas tank, the most I can fill it up is 4 gallon with almost no reserve.

We own a first year 2018 FXBB m8 107 stage one. Love it. As u said perfect power, cruise ability, comfort and looks. Fun bike. best upgrade we did after the stage 1 was getting a whiplash slipstream seat. It sits u back a little further. Holds you in and tons more comfortable on long rides. Next, if you’re doing more than backstreets, memphis shades gauntlet with trigger / relocation block is a MUST. Almost went with the memphis road warrior but u can easily switch between gauntlet and road warrior with same bracket. Weve had almost no problems with our 2018 FXBB. Dealer serviced 11k miles now and only run Synthetic SYN3. Only issue we had with 2018 FXBB and 2018 FLSL 107 was leaky rocker box gaskets at 100-250 miles. Its a known service bulletin easy warranty fix . Didnt cost me anything. Also keep in mind harley used ALOT of plastic and aluminum on this bike to save weight and cost. I cracked an intake manifold with the tiniest allen wrench possible seating aftermarket intake, since it wasnt flush. Harley doesnt cover user error $580 mistake. Just a heads up. Also everything likes to rust out on this bike. Acorn nuts on mirrors. Spokes. Certain bolts. With the amount of money they charge $14,500+ new they should at least use stainless grade 8 bolts. Again saving a buck. Dont forget to put blue threadlocker on your seat bolt or it will rattle off and fly away. I feel like harley could have put a bigger tank on the FXBB but i get the idea smaller tank bobber style looks stripped down. The 3.5 GAL can be a challenge if you got a stage 1 or higher on a long ride. the FLSL and other M8 come with a 4.1GAL But that’s nothing IF youve never ridden a forty eight with a 2.1 stage 1

Right on. I appreciate the words of caution! I’ve got the Coastal kit on order, comes with a different seat and the Harley quarter fairing, plus having cruise control installed at my first maintenance. I installed a set of slip on exhaust but beside that, I don’t plan on doing any more performance mods. I think the bike has more power than I’ll ever need! 👊🏻

Gas Works Garage nice. I highly recommend a tuner. U can get away with just the slip ons. But you’ll noticeably lose power. Because the factory tune is lean and you’re moving more air with the slip ons. I ran a fp3 fuelpak tuner with our v&h twin slash slips ...all the power came back, runs like a dream

great vid, I do agree on most points, I happen to love the gas tank on mine, now my bike is the Softail Standard which is a stripped down version of the Street Bob, in fact all Harley and after market parts for the SB will fit on the Softail Standard. Do have to agree on the handle bars, they could have beefed them up, and like you said what is up with the kickstand, my garage too is marked up with scuffing, I bought my Softail just a month ago, was waiting for years for HD to come out with a bike that i love and the Softail Standard fit the bill, was riding a 06 883 which i totally costumed out over the years, but the M8, absolutely love this engine. For the scratchy kick stand, buy a kickstand coaster for your garage, I bought one a number of years ago for whenever I have to park the bike in soft grass and I now currently use it on my home tarmac driveway. And as for the mid controls, Harley has been trying for a number of years now to cater to vertically challenged people which is also why they've reduced the ride height on a number of models, people come in various shapes and sizes and Harley is trying to make bikes for a wide range of people.

I had a 69(flat side) Shovel Head, 1981 FLH, 1989 Springer, 2006 Road King, 2008 Super Glide & a 76 custom hardtail Sporster. The Sporster I had a problem with the generator losing its polarity a few times. I found a bad wiring job with all different gauge wires pieced together snaked through the frame from the who built the bike. (NOT HD'S FAULT) Once I fixed that=no problems. The 81(AMF) FLH , I had a voltage regulator go (easy fix , mounted on the lower front of the frame) $85. No problems after that & not one problem with any of the other Harleys. Like any other manufacture, whether it be motorcycles, cars or trucks= you are going to have some issues once in a while & hopefully it will be under warranty. Can be updated with parts to your liking=HD counts on it. I would wager a 6 pack they make a higher profit from parts, accessories & mods than they do on the sale of a motorcycle. The dealer I purchased the Springer from told me they make about $1500 on the sale of a bike. Unless you wait until your out of warranty, you would want to have the dealer mount most of your mods like if you need to extend the wiring on a handlebars install, etc. Same with pipes breather , cams, injecters, tuner. While under warranty, use all HD on them unless your disposable income is plenty. On behalf of HD, they need to offer the smaller rider to be able to reach the foot pegs also. To be fair to the customer, they should offer the forward controls option without any labor at least or, a for free option for tall/shorter riders. As far as hd bikes prices go, the Street Bob is a deal stock out of the showroom. Enjoy.

I don't have a problem with the tank range either it will do 130 miles easy, and the size suits the style, I also recon that the spark plugs could be changed without having to remove the tank, think that,s required on the bigger tanks. Forwards are tempting but they are not a cheap change, the cash would go a good bit to trading to a Fat Bob that comes with them and a 114 if you wanted.

My brakes don’t make noise or do non of that but you can buy better pads that shouldn’t even be a complaint, the kickstand thing where it seems unstable that’s all Harley’s it’s even worse on the baggers... you can get the bigger tank for less than that I think you can get it done for under 1500 you need a tank sending unit and fuel pump 💯💯.. .. great video I love my 2019 but hate the bars too oh and my take on the mid controls are keep the mids and get crash bar set up and use as highway peg !!

I can't stand forward controls myself but I'll take a highway bar. They should add the Iron 883 mags and a bigger tank thats all I would change. Nice video great content

As far as cleaning goes, I’ve always used WD40 and a microfibre cloth. As for the dust, I have a 3 year old Dyna in black and even with a dust cover it ends up covered in dust

Bolting on the Sissy Bar and Solo Luggage Rack is what does it for me. The sissy bar being quite tall, one can load up quite a bit. I mount the Harley Tail Bag at the bottom of the rack(Its handle facing the sissy bar) and clip on the Harley foam pad back rest which is mountable on any Harley bag. So i virtually don't need a back rest too and do 800 odd kilometers a day, that too in India, which is like a thousand miles a day or more for you guys!! But of course, if somebody wants to splurge on Chrome, he/she is absolutely free to do so!

Tank is a little small for me. The bars I had to shift a little back towards me, so it didn't feel like I was reaching too much. The seat I have no problems with, until about 2 hrs into a ride(If I haven't stopped anywhere). Like @TheDans7300 said, some mag wheel option instead of spokes would be nice. I bought mine used, with the forward controls already on, mainly because I'm 6'2". A couple of things I don't like are: no visible gauge on the brake fluid reservoir, the clutch lever harder to pull in than my previous bike, and the little bit of Chrome(just make it all black). I have a 2019 Street Bob, and have put on crash bars, a windshield, and saddlebags also, to help with longer rides.

The weird thing about the tank is that I had a Sportster 1200 Custom and it had a 4.5 gallon tank and it looks just like this tank. I would rather have the mid controls and add highway pegs so I have two places to put my feet. My biggest complaint from a looks standpoint on these is the front turn signal placement. It looks like they designed the bike and stood back and realized they forgot to put turn signals on it. Then someone said to just clamp something onto the handlebars. I am not a big fan of the digital gauges and spoke wheels although it does add to the look of this bike. I just prefer analog gauges and I don't like cleaning spokes. Would like to see what one of these look like with a tank lift on it. Only thing I would add is cruise control.

You really dug deep for the dislikes. I do agree a bike that's not a puddle jumper should have at least a 200 mile range. That is disappointing.

I really don't have a problem with the tank size, you may need a rest on your journey, why not put some gas on then. My average milage on a full tank is 190 miles, and I got stage 2 on mine, and I do go a little harder on the throttle 😉. Ride safe 🤘🏻

Everyone complaining it missing the point of the small tank, 1- it is intended to be H-D's modern take on the old school chopped pans where the guys would bolt on a Sportster or similar size tank. In that sense, they nail it with the Street Bob, and 2- to keep the price low as it is intended to be the "budget" model of the new Softail line. Again they nail it. It's kinda like a jacked-up Sportster. The bars, seat, and exhaust are 9-10 times replaced by the owners so there is no reason to drop money into those pieces. It's a balance between style and cost to give people options, and it is a great platform to go crazy with personal customization. I've owned Harley's for 23 years from Sportster's, Dyna's, Softail's (old version), up to my current ride which is a '17 Road King, and I can honestly say that I am likely going to get a Street Bob in the near future, but I understand its limits (fuel range) and love it for that reason. It is the modern take on the old school street ripper, bar hopper that I grew up around in the '70s and '80s without the oil leaks and poor reliability.

Wheels, front and how it looks is wonderfull but Is a huge difference of money here between sportg and street b so I will definitely go to street bob. Shares engine with the sport glide and I will just add more stuff in the future.

I've been waiting a month for an order for some bike parts from Ali Express, so that's a thing. I had to wait a month for a few things from amazon. I mean you're not wrong, harley shouldnt be this behind, but the pandemic has slowed shit down to a crawl. I turned into this mode of "IT'll get here when it gets here" these days. Also on the Factory controls, the reason why harley does this is there's quite a few shorter people who gravitate towards motorcycles, and women tend to ride harley's more than any other brand combined and Mid controls are better for the average person coming through the door. I'm taller myself so Forwards are a must, but the average american man is 5ft9, and average american woman is like 5ft4in. So HD just plays it safe with the controls and goes with mids.

I’m getting a little more than impatient with them. $1600 worth of parts and they can’t even tell me the status of my order... As for the controls, I guess it makes sense. I did not know there were so many women buying Harley’s. 👍🏻

The tank is Actually perfect cause the M8s are more economical and if properly run in should be getting 190 miles to Empty..I get 310 on highway to empty on my 114. Which actually Equates to a Hell of a lot better than my 18 Stage 1 Roadster was miles pr liter/gallon..I'm 5" 9 ALWAYS Loved my Forwards ..

For your brakes you should take them apart and spray them down with brake cleaner every now and then to get rid of the dust and gravel from the road, lots of guys do that. The crazy kick stand is to scare the Kawasaki guys when they get on a Harley LOL.
