Well, it literally can't get worse, I guess. I survived 2020 to have my best year since starting my business, but I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if we hadn't had a full shutdown in March.

With all potential internships cancelled, I ended up looking to the only running sport I had access to: racing. I emailed every track in the New England and was able to snag passes to a few races over the summer/fall and got to try my hand at photographing motorsports for the first time. I ended up connecting with the photographer for a racing series that just so happened to be at the track the same day I was there. Long story short, he wasn’t returning for next season and recommended me to be his replacement, so now I’m the series photographer for the 2021 season! Also due to COVID, BU is only allowing student photographers into games, so it looks like I’ll be getting the opportunity to do some hockey and basketball after the break! Love your work man, both on and off KZread. looking forward to 2021!

Amazing!! That's the hustle I love to hear about. It's crazy with photography - you never know how things will open up if you just show up. Smart to take advantage of the only sport that was happening during the downtime. Nice work - good luck in 2021!

I spent a lot of 2020 driving into Boston from the south shore to finally learn the different neighborhoods and photograph the people and architecture there. I tried so many new editing techniques and watched tons of photogs on KZread for inspiration. Bring on the Renaissance!

Great summary of the year, Billie! 2020 was definitely a year of getting out and photographing new subjects! Hopefully, restrictions will lift in 2021 and I can travel more out of state to expand my aerial landscape photography portfolio. Congrats on the channel and for keeping us connected to the Red Sox through your day job!

Definitely agree with you on the bounce-back... the content drought we've seen this year has, IMO, really reinforced the value of good photo and video work. When we can finally go full force again, it's going to be a beautiful thing.

Great thoughts on expanding our circles. I've been fortunate to meet more and more creatives and learn new mediums and new styles of imagery. When things shut down in the spring I bought a drone and really enjoyed meeting other local pilot/photographers.

Season’s Greetings Billie. Thanks for the good tips provided this year. 2020 was a bummer year. Living up north in Montreal 🇨🇦 i was hoping to to shoot more sporting events to build up my portfolio. However due to the pendemic everything i was looking forward to was cancelled. My goal is to be able to get full status credentials to major sports leagues as the NHL, MSL, CFL, MLB (maybe one day the Montréal Expos will be back) i am lucky i have a few good contacts to help me out along the way

Thanks Guy, Happy Holidays. Yes, agree it was a bummer year. I'm sorry to hear you weren't able to shoot everything you were looking forward to. That being said, I believe things will open up more in 2021! And, if not for the Major Sports, I encourage you to still find interesting things to shoot - there is so much to see right in your own backyard. Enjoy the journey!

Great video! In january I decided to finaly get started in sportsphotography...😐 So not the best time 😅 but it was still a great year. During the summer I got to shoot some really cool events and even got published for the first time. Luckily I don’t rely on it for income and I feel really sorry for everyone who does. Thanks to you and other sportsphotographers on youtube I was able to use the time in lockdown to learn as much as I could and start as good as I can.

I started last December. My passion is baseball. I only shot basketball to get me to baseball season! LOL. The good thing is I've come to really enjoy basketball (and the dry weather!). Hope you found a way to stay positive. Congrats on your first publication! Enjoy the ride! It's been a fun one for me. I'm a natural networker, so I've really just taken time this year to meet all sorts of folks in the sports and photo worlds.

Hi Billie, I also watch a Sports Photographer from the UK who is based in the South of England. He mainly photographs Premier League Football at Southampton and Brighton-Hove-Albion. When Southampton were playing Manchester City at the weekend I messaged him asking if he was at the game. His reply was a very said one. He wasn't at the game and he said the photographers have been reduced to just two and even though he's freelance and shoots for the Press Association, it's very difficult to get to the top of the rota so he thinks his Sports Photography career is over. Times are tough as you say.

2020 was the year that I took up photography as a hobby. Loved shooting youth baseball the most! Now the challenge has been how to keep shooting things around the house daily. Any suggestions of things you did to shoot consistently when you were more of a beginner?

Awesome to hear you took it up this year, Brian! It's definitely a challenge to shoot consistently, especially when there's not much going on. My main thought is to look for great stories/events/people in your community and neighborhood to shoot. I think there's only so much we can shoot within our own home, but if we look around, there are great stories to be told. I have a few videos that touch on this if you want to check them out! Happy Holidays.
