Sold my Tesla P85D & picked up my 2019 AMG GT 53 18 months ago. This car makes me smile every day. This Interior is superb - light years ahead of the Tesla which imho is way too spartan. It’s not as fast 0-60 as the Tesla but the AMG blows Tesla away in the twisties. One issue - the AC is spotty - so I usually drive with windows down if it’s hot which makes the snarls & pops of the exhaust that much better. For the $ this car delivers and then some.

True story to share with you . . . The guys @ the airport and I do a weekly weekend 'classic car' drive. The week I had this was BRUTALLY hot here in LA so left the cars you see in the hangar and drove the GT53. On the first stop, I was taunting all the other guys saying that I needed a parka in my AMG because it was cold enough in the car to hang meat. Welllllll . . . as soon as those words came out of my mouth and I got back in the car . . . BOOM, the AC crapped out on me for the rest of the day:)

As far as i know there is no torque converter in this. The starter-generator is mounted where the torque converter would be.

Love the jeering cheers when you are calling them out for charging too much or charging for standard stuff. :D :D . I still want the car, tho. :D Even in the 6 cylinder trim.

Same retail as the Panamera 4E.... I own the 4E and would never swap that for a GT53 which is supposed to be called the CLS53 AMG because this isn't a stand alone in house AMG product. Panamera has a sportier chassis and a more spacious interior as well. Also from this video I do believe the fit and finish of the interior is on another level in the Panamera compared to this.

Panamera's interior is outdated bro that's a fact. Plus V6 engines are way too outdated compared to GT53 that's a fact. The only Panamera which makes sense these days is Turbo or GTS nothing else. Hybrid Panamera versions have much worse handling in comparison to non hybrid versions. They're simply too heavy.

Big Boss so study both engines and tech used and you’ll see for yourself. GT53 has got really cool F1 stuff and Mercedes is crushing any competition in F1. GT53 V6 is at least 5 years ahead of Porsche V6 in terms of development. And just to let you know Panamera is in the market since late 2016 which means tech inside is at the very best from 2015 engines even earlier.

How's the reliability vs the porche panarama????

Great review, but let's get down to the elephant in the room. For $120K loaded, how reliable is this beast? Am I buying a boat anchor that I should sell to the Navy, that's going to be in the shop half the time, or am I going to be able to enjoy driving? I'm coming from a ten year old Honda that's been serviced only for oil changes. Am I going to be disappointed with this AMG?

Dynamically, they are close . . . but the BMW does edge this one out just a bit. Design wise, prefer the 8 Series. M8 Gran Coupe episode coming up shortly.

It’s always Porsche for me! I love both brands. I have a 2020 G63 and a 2020 Porsche Panamera GTS. In my Panamera Class, 9 out of 10 times I’ll choose my Panamera. Its always Porsche for me. The only time I wont is in the SUV category.

Jackj28 what’s the engine in the panamera GTS is it still the V8 or is it a turbo V6 now. I haven’t driven either one but I see so many comments were people prefer the panamera

@@richardmahoney9415 In my previous 2018 4S I had a twin turbo V6. I think it was 430HP. But in my current 2020 GTS its a Twin Turbo V8 with 450hp or so. The previous GTS was NA V8 I believe. Current models they are a V8 twin turbo.

should i buy a Panamera or a gt53?

The beltline is too high, makes the GT look chunky and not as elegant as the OG A7. M, now that you drove both 53s, which one would you choose? The GT or the CLS? They're practically the same car, a bit with a different wrapper and a spoiler? (Maybe a wider track as well?) As always, excellent work, M.

48 Volt Battery issues that Mercedes wants to keep quiet about... After just one week and less than 300 miles on my new 2021 AMG GT 53 she wouldn't start. I had to get her towed in to the Dealership and had to wait over 2 weeks for a 48V Battery to arrive from Germany. Its not an isolated problem. nice car when she runs.

In comparison to a Porsche Panamera, GT 53's are a better value when NEW. But used is different. You can get the a GT 53 for half the price of new in a couple of years with less than 15k miles on it!! As of June 2023, you can get a 2020 or 2021 GT 53 speced to an orig MSRP of 129k for 75-80k US. You can get a Panamera 4S with 443HP for around that price but you have to go a model year or two earlier. I just got a pristine 2019 Porsche Panamera 4S with 13k miles for 74k dollars. The orig MSRP was 140k. I then paid 4k for an amazing 6 year RoadVantage warranty that co vers everything, including shocks/struts. The Gt53 is a great car but the Pana 4s handles much better, is quicker with the pdk transmission and offers more prestige.

I think they should try and make a maybach version of this car.

I'd rather have the Porsche since it's honest. This Mercedes is just an e class with a curved top that's called a cls that's then called an amg gt. It's another step of fraud past calling the e43 an amg

Still slow as fuck when compared to v6 panameras (4s or 4 e-hybrid)

But is it better than my V4S? NO. LOL i know you cant compare a superbike to a sedan oh sorry coupe. I dont know where they get the balls calling these things coupes but what ever. On a serious note this makes me wanna take a look. I TD a AMG E63 vs an M5 both 20's and i was blown away how much better the M5 was to the AMG. The interior of the MB was creaky and touch points felt cheap, where the BMW was solid all around and extremely well put together. I then TD a 911 cause i thought maybe i want a manual and the 7MT excites me. Talk about well screwed together. First time in a modern 911 and i was thrilled. So then i thought maybe a Taycan? LOL i know im all over the map, my purchase point is sprint of next year and as i said i have a Ducati V4S so i go hella fast in that going through the gears...do i want a manual 911? Or a super sedan? Im still confused, there are so many excellent choices and each time i think i have it pinned down new news on the new up coming "what ever" strikes me down bringing me back to the table. Ugh.

If I had the money I'd rather have something less... tastelss? :P It's more classy looking than the new BMW's. But the proportions, the stance - everything just looks like a loaf of bread kind of shaped like an Audi A7. The car does, as MotoMan says, look quite long. But it somehow manages to still looke like the wheelbase is to short for the body. The entire upper profile line lookes like a crooked back - like the first and maybe second gen Skoda Octavia. A car one size larger than the platform it's built on - so it just kind of fits. And the interior, allthough "nice" still looks like a place were you can buy vulgar services. Paired with that american 80's car dashboard. How come Audi, with their vulgar grilles and huge chilish fender flairs, are the only german brand that (in my eyes) makes a desireable car in the rang with the RS6 Avant?

How ugly can they make a car/fake SUV. Panamerica is not the best looker but this is hideous.

The downside of this is that it's still an E-Class underneath. The engine is on point, but it's still a fake AMG 😁.

This car is inferior by every means to the Panamera, it's actually quite boring and soulless and is not worth the cost when you can get an e63s with minor sacrifices for the same price......

this is bs There's panamere Turbo, GTS and then two V6 engines (one with 340hp other 430hp). The two V6 engines are outdated and by no means can compare to GT53's engine - that's a fact. Panamera GTS and Turbo would compare with GT63. If you're car fan you must also know that Mercedes is going after Porsche especially with the latest lineup.
