In this review, Dalton covers the full details of the new 2020 Mathews VXR31.5 as well as some insight into design, cam technology and more. From there Dalton takes the VXR31.5 to the range for the draw cycle testing and shot testing. Then things get more in depth with a 3 arrow weight speed test at both 60 and 75lbs.

    This was a fantastic review in every respect. I've watched many reviews on the VXR and yours is the best. I found your comments about how the back wall feels very helpful, as I also prefer some softness in the back wall during expansion. Shooting back tension against a solid back wall creates too much tension in the shot sequence I feel. A refreshingly helpful review from someone who clearly knows what he's talking about 👍

    Thank you Dalton for making it clear to everyone how weight modules works, I'm currently shoot a 2014 ChillR, I switched my draw weight accordingly to my shooting needs, ie. Whitetail hunting in cold Mn morning is set at 63#, 3D or Elk hunt, I'd bumped it to 70#, even though my draw length is set at 26", cranking down on the limb bolts decrease my draw length (btw I have 70# limbs), now you can see my situations, I'm sure my ChillR is not the only bow with this problem... Thanks again

    I WAS wondering if I am sane for buying the VXR31.5 after just having bought the Verdix just one year ago. I think our your analysis of the this bow was spot on and what not I'll tell you what. I agree the length of the riser is a big deal. Not only is it longer but it is also much better BALANCED. I have far less pin float with the VXr than the verdix. I just hope I can figure out how to bareshaft tune the VXR as it's harder than with the Verdix.

    I definitely found the shootability aspect of the 31.5 better than the Vertix and Triax both. That being an intangible factor makes it hard to tell about until somebody shoots one apppes to apples at distance with the Vertix. We've found them to tune up extremely easy.

    i seen in your other review (vxr28) we can send in the bow to you for tuning. my question is: how can you tune a bow without the owner there with you? shooting form as to come into play from the owner of said bow right?

  • @BetterOutdoorsarchery

    @BetterOutdoorsarchery

    Shooting form can come into play, especially in the aspect of point of impact however we have found that broadhead/field point groups are virtually the same between every shooter we have setup in store and mailed in. What this amounts to is if the broadhead and field point are tuned together, the shooter (provided they are a consistent shooter themselves) will see a great benefit in their hands. Another aspect that helps immensely is setting these customers up with the correct arrow for their bow combination. We have some other tricks during the setup that come into play as well. Thanks for watching our videos!

    If you are needing a more forgiving bow than the Vertix I feel like it is. The stability once you shoot them side by side at distance is the big thing from a shooter perspective.

    Do you expect to make a lot of tuning changes going from a 70# 28” setup to a 60# 29” setup? Meaning peep and other adjustments?

  • @BetterOutdoorsarchery

    If a customer had been shooting 29/70 initially and went to 28/60 I would check the peep height, change arrow combos and recheck it through paper and with a broadhead. We've got something similar in the works to test on video 😎

    I know this is old, but I’m looking for my first good bow. My shop has the Vertix for $849.99, and VXR 31.5 for $949.99 would you spend the extra $100 on the VXR? Thanks buddy! I am a little longer draw length at 29.5

  • @joc6117

    @Boxing 101 and a ton love the 31.5 as well and hold do depend on draw length and weight and let off. And even hand grip will affect how each person holds each bow..and vibration also has to do with arrow weight. Cam timeing as well.not very many know how to correctly tune a bow

    Boxing 101 I’m not saying that ( you ) don’t feel vibration, I’m saying that ( I ) don’t feel vibration, and when I said I don’t feel “much” I meant I don’t feel “any” just like you. And they both feel equally balanced for me, but I chose the 31.5 because I’m more accurate with the 31.5 than I am with the 28. I went up to my pro shop for about 2 weeks shooting both of them before i chose witch one, because it’s a lot of money for me to be spending like that so I had to make sure I was picking the right one.
