I rented the base model Velar and I liked it except the cheap plastic on the door panel and the sun visor didn't extend driving through the desert with the sun in my eyes for hours. Did a little off roading too. I would not recommend purchasing the base model but the autobiography would be a go.

This is the suv you buy if you have the money...

A pity you don’t have the active matrix headlights over there, they are amazing, lovely car nonetheless

A beautiful motor, with some irritating and ridiculous flaws. Velars have what must be a contender for the World's Loudest Indicators Hall of Fame. Even with the 5 litre engine, exterior noise intrusion into the cabin is well suppressed. There's no need whatsoever for such intrusive direction signal sounds. Side mirror demisting is an automated function that only kicks in at low temperature (5°C / 41°F). I've lost count of the times I've had to get out and manually wipe the mirrors on damp, misty mornings when the temperature is well above this threshold. JLR people: it's a DEMISTER, not a de-icer. Fix this stupid design fault!! When it's been raining and you lift the tailgate, there's a gush of water that drains from the midsection trim. Having water collect inside the panels is annoying enough when it drains out on your head, but worse it cannot bode well for corrosion in years to come. Speaking of the tailgate, the gesture control opening system is almost useless. The ignominy of standing in a public car park ineffectually waving your ankle under the rear quarter of the vehicle in some weird Hokey Cokey frenzy to no effect cannot be overstated. My cat, however, has mastered the move and has twice succeeded in popping the trunk by slinking underneath the back bumper / fender. It simply isn't up to the job (the hands free release, not the cat). The Bluetooth phone connection would've been great a decade ago. However, it just hasn't kept pace with the times. If you have more than one mobile / cell phone, you have to manually switch between phones to receive calls, rather than the ICE having capacity to handle two devices simultaneously. Skodas have had that feature for years. Why can't JLR match their specifications on such a prestigious vehicle? I love my Velar, but Jaguar Land Rover really need to up their game if they hope to maintain brand loyalty. These aren't faults they're unaware of, either. They'd be foolishly arrogant if they believe customers will overlook them and buy another when their lease comes towards its end...
