Beautiful workmanship. You set an example for others to follow. The only time that I've ever used a torque wrench for such a task was when I worked in aviation. No short cuts, there. At home, the "calibrated" elbow has always been my friend. And that is not the way to do the job, properly. You've woken me out of my slumber. Cheers.

1999 W650 : just 25 years old, 116000 kms, looking like new one, just a fuel petcock changed, original front disk ….in summer between oil changes, just a glass of oil to complete the level ….😊

Mike thank you very much for the video. I have a W800 Street and I see that you can change the oil with the bike tilted. Greetings from Spain

You are supposed to check the oil level sight glass straight up. I have found that sitting on the bike upright and using an inexpensive mechanics extendable mirror works very well for looking at the level.

I remedied this by recently installing a center stand. You are correct though. It is best to check it when the bike is upright.

@@mikelaputt My 2018 Classic version came fitted with a center stand and life is much better with it. But the head mechanic at the Kawi shop warned me that the sight window gives a false low reading when the bike is on its center stand: Bike is tilted forward with the rearend elevated, sight window is located towards the rear of the engine case. More accurate if you check it with both wheels on the ground, bike upright on its axis. I also found that shifting feels smoother if oil level is closer to minimum. Just keep a close eye on it to avoid starvation. 🏍

@@cycoklr, you are correct. Adding oil while the bike is on the center stand will result in overfilling if lined to the middle of the sight glass. I normally gauge how much oil I’ve added by the measurement markers on the bottles along side the sight glass or dipstick. I stopped adding oil when I thought I’ve added the right amount and saw nothing on the sight glass. Took the bike off the center stand. Oil flowed into the sight glass slightly above the bottom line. It was a matter of adding a little more to get it to the middle.

@@mikelaputt thank you for the video. Got my 2019 w800 cafe a year ago. Dealer did my 600 mile and I just hit 3300 miles. About the oil quantity. From the owner’s manual: 2.7L (2.9 US qt)[when filter is not removed] ; 2.9 L (3.1 US qt)[when filter is removed]. I just did a change of both oil and filter, bike on center stand and front wheel propped up with a board to get almost perfect level front to back, not so perfect side to side, and it seemed like it took a little bit more than 3.1 qt. I was interested in what brand your adjustable filter wrench was and if it works well for you. I want to set the torque on the filter.
