2020 Idaho ATV Trip / Lolo-Wallace Loop

Pics and video from our ATV trip starting from the Lochsa Lodge traveling across the Lolo Trail, up to Wallace and back to the Lochsa Lodge. It was a total of 9 days and 530 miles of Idaho backcountry beauty! Please excuse some of the blurriness in some of the video. There will be a new camera before I go back out.

I cruised timber for over a decade in southern Idaho and have to say that is one huge cedar tree. Cruising timber involves the measuring of the tree's height, volume in board feet, and circumference at 4.5' (breast height). Many of the ponderosa pine trees I cruised were one-log loads on a logging truck but nothing compared to this beauty LOL. To be honest I wish they would keep people away from the tree's drip zone so the soil can breathe properly and benefit the tree's overall health. Hopefully, it will live another 1000 years...

@@atvtrailscouts4765 Great, I look forward to see that trip! I live the southeast Idaho and enjoy seeing the possible trips that we could make! Its to bad that you folks missed the dredge on your Circle the Frank trip, its a great tour, my father worked on it as a mucked and oiler many years ago just after he married my mother, they lived in a wall tent for a year during that time! My Grandmother was born in Custer and I have many relatives living in Challis. Question, if you don't mind, as the wife and I get more experienced (older) I am finding it a little harder to ride a 4 wheeler for long distances, we are not there yet but its coming and did a mention the dog and the STUFF she needs to bring with her on a camping trip (my wife not the dog), so after seeing side by sides running with you on your trips I was wondering if they were 50" models? I did see a Can Am trail on the Lolo- Wallace loop but the Polaris machines didn't look to be trail models and you said in one of your reply's to a gentleman that his friends with 72" would need to buy pass a section of this loop.

Unfortunately, the snow slowed us down just enough to were we couldn't make it happen. Good excuse as any to return! There was an stea that was very tight for larger side x sides just outside if Pierce. It was not labeled a 50" trail but it sure felt like one. My kind of trail! For those that did not want the tightness of it scratching their machine could definitely get around on a different route.

Hello! Great videos! The last few years I have been watching these and finally the wife and I decided to purchase a machine. I have an issue maybe you could help with? I see in the photo at 3:28 that most of the 2up machines have mud flaps. Is this to mitigate dust on the passenger or for stones coming back off the trailer? We have only a few miles on our machine but I feel horrible that my wife is completely covered in dust in minutes and was wondering how to fight this. Do you have a suggestion for forums or groups that share info on setup and the like? Thank you for your time.

  • @atvtrailscouts4765

Hello Kegg, sorry for the delayed response. The mud flaps are just there to try and keep the machines from throwing mud and rocks all over the front of the trailer. As far as places on the internet, Facebook has a Can Am Outlander group that has a lot of people in it. That may be a good place to ask. My wife only gets dusty on mine if there's someone ahead of us. Good luck with it, and welcome to the club!

@rrrussell1009 Thank you! I couldn't either about 10 years ago when I started looking so I had to build my own. I build them for others every so often as well. I've pulled mine about 5000 miles out west. With me and her riding one atv, it's a necessity. It started as just a storage trailer but has morphed into this thing I pull now.

@@rrrussell1009 Just storage. On a 50" trailer, there just isn't enough room if you're trying to keep it compact and light enough. All of our kitchen stuff packs into a storage tote that is hauled inside.

Please make sure your next trip in Wallace that you 1. Keep to the speed limit. 2. Obey the stop signs. Turn your stereos down. We ACTUALLY live in Wallace raise our kids to have endless processions of ATVS speeding, blasting music, and NEVER stopping at stop signs. I watch it everyday. I wish these guys had to fill out paperwork with addresses so we could have the opportunity to do the same in your neck of the woods. We here in Wallace other than the shop owners who “need” you types for income DO NOT like what this has done to our town. Just show us respect. I’ve confronted a couple groups and have always been met with disrespect.

Kind of like what you just showed me by assuming that me and my group operate the same way. We, infact, do not act this way as we are guests and we understand this. Take your rant to the ones that need to hear it. We do not.

@@atvtrailscouts4765 I operate an off road tour company in Canada and Baja Mx. I have to side with @benschlotte8242 on this one. He did not single you out personally. He has every right to put his message out as a blanket request reminding ALL OF US, just like "Speed Limit" or "Fire Danger" signs on the side of the road is for EVERYONE. Imagine the noise and dust alone are enough to overwhelm a town. I've seen clothes lines with fresh laundry caked with road dust, campers tents fill with dust, farm dogs kicked, and arguments in the middle of the road with locals begging riders to slow down. This is just due to the large number of machines rolling by with no intentions of harm, but they do lack so much awareness. Most of the time the riders hang their heads in shame, but every once in a while they do get rude. Your channel offers many the opportunity to experience the joys and blessings of what very few of us get to do. All the commenter is asking is that you see things from his perspective and keep it all in check. If you do, then certainly his message is aligned with your own actions and mindset. The fact that you took offence to this and replied as such, makes me think that you are NOT the kind of rider the trails or back country towns, need or want as you will be just as confrontational (and wrong) on the trail as you are in this chat. Ride Safe.

My God people are petty!! These posts are what's wrong with the world...these people were extremely respectful and y'all are bagging on good people who injected money into those communities and produced some wholesome content. A rolled stop sign I hope that was satire... That is NOT what the first person was ranting about...and you know it. Stop being a petty keyboard Karen....

@CraigL804 🤣 so you what think it’s one guy rolling through a stop sign ?? It’s constant processions of these vehicles up to 20+ ALL not just slowing down and rolling through… they don’t even bother to slow. ALL in order to keep in a little precious line. I love on a corner street so I’ve had one of them block the intersection of a through street to keep us from going about our day just so NO one gets in between them. I’ve seen them Stop in front of my home and pass beers to each other and proceed to open and consume them. Had some of them try to talk to my 6 year old daughter lure them closer to the side by sides. See them on our Main Street Bank St. line up 2-3 wide to race hitting 50 mph in a 20 mph zone. They think they can launch over our wood covered bridge that has a slight ramp to it. I go out to moon pass up from my home and there is trash. Piled up from them sleeping in the woods. So sorry if you think that would be acceptable in YOUR town. But it’s NOT. And if it’s not this guys group then the rest of them make you ALL look bad!! I moved here 12 years ago for rest and retirement and ALL I hear everyday is countless processions of these side by sides. They are so loud that the drivers and passengers wear headphones. There is NOT one wallace citizen that will ever say wow we LOVE what this has done to our small town. So call me a Karen bud !! But until you have this happen to YOUR neighborhood than you know NOTHING.
