Have Honda made their best car ever Jazz? Is this a car to break the stereotypes we all associate with the Honda Jazz?

We have had the Jazz Crosstar for 3 months. My wife wouldn’t even contemplate a manual before testing this. Now drives this daily with a smile on her face. Just a relaxing, practical cruiser and we love it. Not seen another one yet.

Not a mild hybrid though. This is a pure hybrid car and after almost 1 year, that we saw Yaris Cross, it seems that Jazz eHEV is better to all points, especially in consumption and internal space 😉

I think the Crosstar is the best supermini on the market. Cars like these are a bit pricey but if it was my money this would be the one to buy. In my opinion, for cash buyers there are only three mainstream car brands on the market that you can have any kind of reassurance regarding trouble free ownership - Honda, Suzuki and Toyota. Very good review.

Definitely a bit expensive but these seem to last for years beyond many competitors. I guess that's why it costs a bit more money :)

@@TomKentMusic Ummm *raises hand*.... at the risk of doing a 'well, actually' try pricing up, say, a Polo against this. When you start matching spec for spec the Honda ends up being pretty good value. A Polo R-Line with the 115bhp petrol, DSG auto and all the tech of the Jazz comes to £27k! And that engine is a second slower 0-60 and a good 10mpg minimum less in the real world. Now that's likely to come down a bit once pricing for the 'new' (i.e. facelift) version hits but even so the EX by comparison is almost five grand cheaper at £22.2k. Heck just look at the EX model over the SR. £1,600 extra but gives you keyless entry, blind spot monitoring, heated seats, rear view camera, leather gear knob, leather heated steering wheel, sat nav, rear USB sockets, tinted glass, USB fog lights and bigger alloys.

EX Crosstar actually has a few less things than the standard EX Jazz. Slightly smaller boot despite being larger frame and I believe it doesn't come with one or two of the pieces of tech - blind spot monitoring if my memory serves me right. So for a bit of styling and extra ride height you're getting less but paying more. Does look better though.

It's an odd one this. The Crosstar gets an uprated stereo (8 speakers vs 4), water repellent fabric instead of half leather, roof rails, the 'off road' body cladding, a teeny tiny ride height boost and, of course, proper alloys. But in exchange it doesn't get blind spot monitoring or rear cross traffic monitoring (maybe the body kit gets in the way of fitting the sensors?), a heated steering wheel or, allegedly, a rear seat armrest (I need to check that once my EX gets here hopefully next week). Oh and for some reason the mirrors are chrome *plated* on the EX but chrome *painted* on the Crosstar for.... some reason. It's also 3mpg less fuel efficient and 0.4 seconds slower to 60. For me the looks would be about even if Honda had given the EX the (optional) diamond cut wheels rather than those ridiculous alloys with plastic blade things it gets. For the first time in my entire car buying life I'm debating paying extra for the replacement option...

Roof load is 50 kg on the Cross as opposed to a rather anemic 35 kg on the rest of the range. I also don't think the Jazz needs blind spot monitoring or cross traffic monitoring unless you have a stiff neck :-)

The sub-woofer in the boot means it has a fantastic audio system. I like classical music so this really matters. Heated steering wheels are pointless, and the lack of a cross monitor doesn’t bother me one little bit. As for the raised ride height - hooray! This means it is easier to get in and out of. Testers seem unaware of this benefit. Actually it is a very good car, I got 75 mpg on a twenty-five cross country and town run, driving normally but with only about seven miles at seventy mph. And the a/c was on too.

Really good review. My wife has had all three generations of Jazz, at first we really disliked the look the this 4th, a Jazz will always be a Jazz ie with the minivan profile but we still find the front more goofy than even. We were considering the new Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid, had a great drive in one but despite it's larger size we felt quite cramped onboard, something you never feel in a Jazz. So we will wait till it arrives in NZ next year and make a decision. It's funny the ribbing the Jazz gets, 97kw isn't in anyway bad for our current RS spec that is essentially a little city car. For me? I'll stick to my 2018 Civic Hatch Turbo, love it 👍

It’s a mild hybrid. It’s what Honda sell it as. It’s what it says on the V5. Think your facts are actually wrong, but it’s ok, I corrected you so you don’t look like an idiot to the rest of the world. :)

@@TomKentMusic it’s no way a mild hybrid. Think you need to do some research. A mild hybrid is when the electric motor kicks in to help the engine but unable to drive in electric mode only. It’s a proper hybrid that can run in pure electric. Don’t care what it says in any v5. “How do mild hybrids work? As the name suggests, a mild hybrid offers only a small amount of electrical assistance to the engine - not enough for the car to run on electric power alone. The systems work in slightly different ways from brand to brand, but in general they tend to use power from the generator to assist the engine under hard acceleration and help it restart more smoothly and seamlessly after it’s switched off when the car is stationary.” Suggest you go away .” There made it easy for you since you are too lazy to research properly. Or maybe you are looking at the specs of an old model. So here ere read this to “Unlike the Jazz from two generations ago, the new model is a full hybrid - meaning it doesn't have a plug, but can run on electric-only for short distances, with the battery charged by the engine - and this is the only power choice available.”

Honda sell, market and give out press packs stating it’s a mild hybrid. I’m going to trust them, as they make it, not someone on the internet who deems their Wikipedia knowledge fact. Mild hybrid can also be used to define cars without long lasting full EV range btw.
