I've taken to calling it a touring-sport bike. The bike seems to have some of the ST-1300 DNA in it. The DCT must at least be tried before you decide against it.... using it changes a lot of people's minds. That was my experience after a test drive.

I was surprised Adam was so enamored of the DCT. I never thought I'd consider a DCT, but after hearing him and watching it in action I think I would. One thing I don't think he mentioned though, as I recall in addition to significantly downsizing the fuel capacity in the 2018 redesign, I think the cargo capacity dropped considerably as well, at least in the full touring version.

I used to complain that you can't fit two helmets in the top case. But someone told me that on long rides, they have other stuff in their trunk and wouldn't use it for helmets even if they would fit. Kind of makes sense. You're not going to empty your trunk of your tent or clothes or whatever you have in there just so you can fit your helmets when you stop for lunch. Better to use the trunk for stuff and just carry the helmets or cable-lock them to the bike. ..... BTW, I love the DCT. I put 16,000 miles on the 2016 NC700 DCT commuting over the Bay Bridge for work and now have 8,000 miles on the '18 NC750X DCT. Best commuter bikes, hands down. I just retired and don't need to commute anymore, so looking at the 'Wing for some serious travelling.

Interesting as my 2017 Africa Twin DCT in “sport mode” actually holds the gears longer giving you higher RPMs and more torque through each gear. It’s in Tour mode, at least on the Africa Twin, that the DCT will shift upwards quicker lowering RPMs.

I like this bike and would definitely get the DCT if I got one. I like that they still have a proper tach and speedo. Not a fan of the keyless fob though. The tour version needs a bigger top case since it won't hold two helmets. I have an 03 Goldwing and the rear brakes are linked. The pedal operates the rear caliper and one of the front calipers. The right lever only operates on of the front calipers. I don't have any use for the electronics on this since I never listen to music while I ride and I would never use the GPS. I just wonder if you could turn off the center screen so I wouldn't be distracted by that. I also never adjust my windshield on my Goldwing. I set it in the lowest position and leave it there. Would be interesting to see how you compare this to the BMW K1600GT or the B model.

Great video... Your tire pressure should be checked though... There is no pressure indicator but just the blinking amber light.

Very, very good review. I ride a Harley now but I've had three Goldwings. I think I'll be going back to my roots very soon. By the way. You sound like a young John Malkovich:) Cheers.

Hi Adam Ponty Pete here! Where do you live ? weather looks great ! This is the best constructive helpful vid on the DCT I have seen! Pity it does not have heated seats on the bagger which looks far better than the tourer! By the way it may be $25000 to buy there but its $32500 to buy here in England! Takes the edge off being able to buy one don’t you think ? I have been wanting to buy one for 6 months just got to rob a bank to do it ??? Have. Great day my friend Pete from middle England!

Are the current Wings any easier to perform your own servicing than previous GL1800s? A few years ago I was interested in the '06 - '10 models, but when I learned that changing the air filter required disassembling and reassembling the whole upper half of the motorcycle, I changed my mind.

Wondering if MotoGP seamless gearbox is actually based on the DCT concept. It's quite common to see DCT gearboxes in sport and race cars. Bikes are a bit like a poor relative of cars with regard to gearbox tech used.

In DCT model, they could have moved the foot brake to left handle clutch position making the rider complete leg free. Probably that might involve little cost overhead due to addition of new parts they just avoided it. What is the point of the designing the best touring bike which is not the best user friendly ???
