Honda Gold Wing MEGA Review. Is this the Worlds best touring motorcycle? DCT explained GL1800 bagger

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We give the new 2020 Honda Gold Wing GL1800B a mega review. This is a long and comprehensive review with everything you need to know about Honda's flagship touring motorbike.
We explain the DCT automatic, double clutch transmission and tell you exactly what it's like. We look at the Modes, Brakes, Suspension, Engine, Seating, Luggage Compartments, Acceleration, engine and exhaust sound, and even show you what it looks like under its skin.
We also look at PCP finance options and the cost of servicing.
We highly recommend that after watching this video, you look on Honda's website for further information, and arrange a test ride with your local Honda motorcycle dealership.
Father and son team look at and analyse this bike from the perspective of different generations.
What's it like for passengers? How fast is it? Is it slow and cumbersome? What about the reverse gear?
We cover everything in the longest review we have ever done.

    I must’ve watched hours and hours of motorcycle reviews on KZread but this is the most objective, well presented review I’ve ever watched. Most importantly it’s a UK based review. Excellent review guys, keep up the good work.

    I already did the Harley Honda comparison......I now own a new Goldwing tour. I've had Harleys since 1993 this bike is just so refined, and in real terms cheaper because everything is already on it, but on a Glide is extra. And its going to last a million miles!!

    That’s the first time I’ve heard that engine at various & slower speeds in a KZread clip and it sounds a lot better, deeper and more characterful than I feared. A lot of reviews seem to concentrate on the full force of the engine capabilities, the sportier element of the bike when in actuality, it is a cruiser. Thanks to your review I’m a little closer to a major contactless purchase which because I live ‘off shore’, pretty much eliminates any chance of a real live demo. Nice review 👍🏼

    That's a great review of such a great bike. I never thought I would be interested in a gold wing, but after so many years and grey hairs I'm now actually interested in one. After watching your review. I had no idea they have so many buttons 🙄 would take me weeks to learn them all. Well done again and I'll stick to my Harley, it has way less buttons which I like, my first Harley as an ex-pat in the US for about 30 yrs I thought it was time to try one 🤣 I look forward to more of your reviews. High torque doesn't technically give you more of a shove. It's simply a measurement of how much work the engine does per revolution. A high torque engine will feel powerful at low RPM's, but any engine that put out that same horsepower figure would pull you just as hard, albeit perhaps at a much higher and more ear shattering RPM. You don't use a diesel to pull a heavy load because the petrol cars couldn't move it. You use a diesel because it gives you its rated horse power without sitting at 6000 on the clock. That said, high torque engines feel damn good.

  • @MrDarcy-OlMan

    @MrDarcy-OlMan

    oh High torque is like getting pushed by Dwayne Johnson, low torque is like getting pushed by a kid. There’s a big difference and believe us; you can feel it

  • @PacAnimal

    @PacAnimal

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sure, I know what you mean. At low RPM's, it'll feel that way. This is why we like a high torque engine, because we imagine that it'll have just as much to give if you keep revving it up. However, the horsepower, or kilowatts, if you prefer that unit of measure, is actually the only measurement that directly determines your acceleration. If you didn't hear, feel, or see the engine, 100HP from a turbo charged Harley at 5000 RPM would pull exactly as hard as 100HP from a sport bike at 10000 RPM, given their weight was the same. That's just a fact.

    One of the few Hondas (car or motorcycle) I would consider iconic. Looks great too. Giving it a DCT was an inspired idea, too. With its double wishbone front suspension it has an advantage over the Harley - under dive the trail doesn't change significantly and it even has a bit of anti-dive built into the geometry.

    @Tony Franco I just got a 2019 and I don't think there have been any major changes, I put almost 200K on a 2012 Wing but this new GW is an extremely smooth fast bike, but to me, the handling is so much better. I'm 69 years old and have had many bikes over the years and I feel this may be the best big fast smoothest motorcycle made.

    Hey Guys! Another great review. You know, the more I see of this bike the more I like it. I tried the '15 Anniversary edition F6B and I liked it very much. I just couldn't do that locked in riding position. My feet kept hitting things and it just got too annoying. Plus my hips started hurting after a while with no way to take the pressure off. So that was that. I fear the same might be true of this new design. But you never know until you ride one. As for the DCT, no thank you. I will shift my own. I want to ride the bike, not have the bike ride me. That is just not the riding experience I want to have. Again, probably great for many, just not my style. I also had reservations about the new front end. Not so much the design , I questioned the quality of the components. But 2 years in I have not heard of any catastrophic failures, so maybe it's OK after all. There is the Traxxion Dynamics upgrade that can be done to improve things there if one is so inclined. Overall a very, very good bike. A little bit too expensive for me, and frankly it's just not enough to make me trade my trusty Vision! But definitely one to keep on the Radar. I know that later you compared it to the Harley, but really I see it's main competition as the BMW K1600B or Grand America. Now THAT would be an excellent head-to-head battle of the bikes!

  • @MrDarcy-OlMan

    @MrDarcy-OlMan

    Middle of the night here. Woke up. I'll keep this until the morning and report back later. I love these bikes. Good morning. I agree: torque rules. 50 mpg is good. I love the retractable screen. I'd rather have foot boards. Good it doesn't have a touch screen. They're awful things. Top-loading panniers would be better. The horn is as loud as my Can-Am F3-S's. Does the paint on high-quality plastics fade? Excellent review of a quality motorcycle. Tilting Motor Works will be busy making a two-wheel adapter kit for the front. It will make it all really expensive, but I already have my three-wheeler which I treat as my car. What to buy as my big two-wheeler is my big question.

    After a history of riding powerful sport bikes (I still own a customized 2008 B-King), as I am getting older I am learning to love cruiser bikes. Or let's say comfortable bikes. I got a cheap '94 Honda Shadow 600 and absolutely loving it. Wouldn't mind riding around on this Gold Wing actually, it looks pretty and decently comfortable. I guess it makes for a wonderful ride. Like you said it is a gentleman's cruiser, looks very sleak and modern. And 24k is not even that high priced, especially if you compare it to the Harley Davidson Road King for example. Maybe some time in the future I might get something like this. And the old man finally found a bike where he doesn't look too big on, while riding it :D
