2020 GT350 Differential Oil Change... WOW!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I wanted to share my day changing my rear differential oil to AMSOIL, and doing a second oil change at 3,000 miles. Changing the differential oil was a pretty easy job using a lift. I hope this helps anyone that owns a GT350!

    The diff oil on the Gt350 from the factory after the additive is added is extremely dark in color brand new

    Always a good idea to fill the oil filter with oil ( as much as possible) before installing. Prevents starvation on first start. Wish my 16 had this style of filter.

    Found out you can prime the oil pump by pushing gas pedal in, then clutch, press start and oil will prime without starting the engine.

    Why do you unscrew the drain plug instead of removing the retaining clip and pulling the hose out? This way you don't have to unscrew the plug.

    The friction modifier is not needed when using the severe gear amsoil, it's already got the required modifier in it

    Yes I found that out after I bought everything. The representative at Amsoil told me it’s not needed unless you hear knocking. He let me know it didn’t hurt to use it since I already had it.

    Remember to drive the car in a figure 8 after you're done installing the new diff oil and slip lock. Also you may want to change it one or two more times to flush out the motorcraft junk since it doesn't drain the oil cooler. This will be more of a "flush". Amsoil all the way.

    I have 1800 on my HEP R and changed my oil at 700 to Amsoil. Had planned to get a second change around 3500 - is your opinion to change the diff oil then as well?

  • @avzwhips5536

    @avzwhips5536

    I was very satisfied to know I put Amsoil diff oil in and now I have peace of mind that I'm running oil that I truly believe in...the oil was really dirty so in my opinion it was well worth it, we'll see what the Amsoil looks like after 6 months.

    Why did you change the differential fluid after only 1800 miles? I have a 17 Z06 w/ 7,000 miles on it. Do I need to change the differential fluid on it?

  • @avzwhips5536

    @avzwhips5536

    The main reason was I wanted to get Amsoil fluid in the differential, as you see in the video the original fluid was very dirty. I was very happy that I did change it. In another 3,000 miles I'm going to change it again to see how the oil looks.

    Good video but when filling with new gear oil, oil should not come out of fill whole . Gear oil level should be around 9mm lower then fill hole. At least thats what is on my 2017 gt350 when i did my research

    It's fine you change diff fluid. But it's overkill. In gt350 manual instruction to change diff and manual transition fluid every 150,000 mi. On my Audi S4 it doesn't need to change diff fluid at all, it's for life of the car.

    If you read the “track” manual for the GT350/R it should be changed every 500 miles of track use. I do track my car, if someone doesn’t then yes it wouldn’t be necessary.
