2020 GMC Sierra AT4 FULL REVIEW: Is This the BEST All Around Truck You Can Buy?

This is my full review of the GMC Sierra AT4 equipped with the Duramax diesel engine. It's an impressive pickup truck, with loads of features, a powerful engine, and absolutely boss styling. Looking forward to testing the new Ford F-150 when it comes out to see who is the overall pickup truck king, but right now, if I were spending my own money, this would probably be the truck I'd want in my driveway. Let me know what you think!

Jax you nailed this truck video. I’m not really a truck guy but you presented the review in a way that made me stay and watch. I walked away with a better understanding and appreciation for GMC trucks. It looks the business. That being said, at 64 Grand, I had better have a solid plan to use the truck in some way to make it pay for itself.

I bought the 2020 AT4 w/Duramax, 6’7” bed, trailer tow mirrors and loaded. Traded my 2011 Ford Raptor Super Crew 6.2L w/67K miles. The Raptor held its trade in value in an incredible way which was good. I am thoroughly impressed with the AT4 and it is the right truck for me at this time and for the about the next 10 years. The fuel mileage is incredible, since leaving the dealership a month or so ago I am averaging 24+ mph, hwy. 25.9+, best 50 miles 31.4 mpg and avg 50 miles 27.5. More importantly I have been using different fuel apps checking diesel fuel prices and working them into my travels and buying diesel most times cheaper than regular gas. The technology is outstanding and everything is working as advertised including hitting the EPA MPGs right off the showroom floor. I can’t wait till it is broken in to see what improvement in MPG I see.

Craig, check out Taylor Martin’s channel he does a really great in depth walk around and review, really good quality video and gives you all the facts. Not as comedic of an approach but has all the facts down and really knows the truck. (He owns it). This was an entertaining video though, just missing a lot of facts is all.

First time watching your channel, good job on the review man. I have the 19' with the 6.2 and this drivetrain is off the charts. Two words. Butter Smooth. When I first purchased my truck I thought the tailgate was going to be a bit gimmicky, but after using it for several months I am blown away at how extremely useful it is in so many different applications. The engineers at GMC knew what they were doing with this tailgate and it shows! This is quite possibly my most favorite vehicle I have ever owned and I am in my late 50's. I am considering looking at the 3.0L Duramax in the AT4 version at the end of 21 before the new upgraded interior comes out. I like my trucks to be functional on the inside not glitzy bc my truck actually works for me. The rear is always brimming with tools as well as the truck bed. I flip houses so I have on hand a large variety of tools with me at all times. My truck is not a concrete princess for sure. Now for the bad. The Rancho shocks are shi*. Period. I will be changing them out for Bilsteins very soon as I have had them on my other trucks and they perform much better than Rancho products. The 6.2L is a badass engine no doubt but she drinks a lot of fuel and uses premium to boot. Now don't get me wrong when I need to pass I have ZERO issues passing anything LOL, but I pay for it. On a decent day with the Ridgegrapplers I put on it I get about 16 mpg in the city, still not bad but I like the fuel economy of the baby Duramax much better and that would be my reasoning for trading it in. Thanks for the good work man. Liked and subbed.

Thanks so much for the kind words! 🙏🏻 I think you'll be impressed by the Duramax. It feels plenty powerful enough (far more than the base engine if not quite as awesome as the 6.2), and it gets WAY better fuel economy. I thought the Rancho shocks were pretty good, but fun fact: my Suburban rides on Bilsteins 😉👍🏻 Thanks for watching!

Can’t tell if I like the out takes better than your objective but thorough review.. either way thanks for the experience and great video. I’m in for the dark sky metallic with the 5.3L. Your observations on the market segment can’t be more accurate. That is why so many of us have chosen this vehicle. Only thing I wanted to hear is your POV or anyone else here on the durability of this truck. I’m in the rust belt and can’t understand GM’s logic of their frame coating. I plan to keep this >10yr. Thanks! I’m sure they had their reasons, but it certainly doesn’t make sense to me. As I mentioned in the video, I’ve heard the reasons mainly amounted to the greater profit margins generated by GMC charging more for some perceived differences over their Chevy twins, which is... cynical and dumb.

  • @ElectricBlueIX

    @ElectricBlueIX

    3 жыл бұрын

I’ve always just preferred the overall look of GMC. No matter if it’s a truck or SUV. The Denali is just a step above in quality interior pieces. People are very loyal to GMC branding, which is why GM knew to keep it around. The Chevy brand offers more base model trucks that the every day working type can use that will be reliable but still have a lot of the same features. Everyone who knows GM trucks completely understands that underneath they are identical trucks, but everyone has a preference on what type of styling they want.

I bought a used 2020 6.2. It’s best looking truck out there. Redefined the term loaded for me. Name option, it has it. Extremely powerful and very comfortable ride. Too easy to speed. Power folding mirrors. HUD on windshield gives you speedometer and speed limit sign below for zone you’re in as you drive. Power rear slider. Heated and cooled seats. Heated seats in back. Sunroof. Built in wireless phone charger. AC outlets. The accident avoidance and auto dimming brights are a nice luxury touch as well. I actually like the interior as it is. Like the glove box set up better than the refresh. New shifter and wide screen would be nice but I don’t feel shorted. Especially since it would cost at least 30k more to have those options in the same truck compared to going used. My main complaint is the grill. They used some kind of gray coating to frost the chrome grill and it has chipped off all over at only 2 years old. Wasn’t great R&D on that guys. The exhaust has to be disconnected in order to drop the transmission pan for a fluid/filter change making this far more expensive than your average trans fluid change. Gas station visits are pricey when filling up with the 93 these days. All that being said I think it’s the best truck ever made and they look great in every color. It’s attractive from all sides. It’s a luxury off road truck.

Like others who have commented I landed here because I'm in the mkt for a 1/2 ton truck, preferably one with a torquey diesel. I think this thing might be the one. Once had a 2011 BMW 335d and that thing was a blast to drive. There's just something about the way a buttery smooth straight 6 diesel engine effortlessly goes about the business of moving things that agrees with me even if it's bolted to the unlikely BMW E90 chassis. I like the looks of the Ram Ram Rebal as you call it but there is no way in hell I'll gamble on reliability of an FCA product at this point. The Sierra interior will be upgraded to match the new Tahoe/Yukon next year so those willing to wait will be rewarded with something more modern. I have no loyalty to GM/Ford/FCA but I think this clean sheet purpose built 3.0L Duramax mated to the 10sp is the best of the diesel bunch. Even better is that there's employee pricing ($8-$10k off msrp) on these things until 1/4/21. Great video and thanks for a few laughs along the way.

That would probably be in the ballpark new; however, since the 2020s haven't been out very long, I would doubt you'd find one in that spec for much less even if it was used. Be lucky to get under $60k (since it would be low mileage).

Gotta correct you…The Sierra is actually way more equipped than the Silverado since 2018. Especially the AT4 vs the Trail Boss.

GMC has some bespoke options reserved for the Sierra, but I wouldn't say "way more" equipped compared to a Z71 or Trail Boss, especially considering how 99% of buyers will use them.

@@jax1079 well the 6 position tail gate, carbon pro edition and exclusive engine option (3.0L Diesel) are three HUGE things in my opinion…. Edit… Also GMC has rear handle buttons, and the tech package!! With the head up display, birds eye view and all the extra cameras!? That’s huge as well… GMC has wayyy more options especially ones that matter.

I purchased the 21 AT4 3.0L Turbo Diesel Carbon Pro Edition, and I was looking for a Silverado but they didn’t have those options which is why I went GMC.

@@FrEzNoGriZzLY True, and for those that use them, I still think the AT4 is the most practical truck. It's one of my favorites (specced as you did), but I think a lot of people VASTLY overestimate their truck needs, and while it's cool to have options like the Carbon Pro bed, it's not necessary for what they're generally used for. I've got the Nissan Titan Pro-4X to test right now, and it's a shockingly good deal for 99% of customers if they were honest about their use case. Many people WANT a truck but much fewer actually NEED one. For those that do, there's the Sierra. For people like me (total truck poser), my needs would be MORE than satisfied by something like the Titan.

@@jax1079 I’m a total truck poser, with a fully equipped AT4 so I get what you mean and 100% agree. I just wanted to correct the part where you mentioned that the GMC isn’t actually more than what the Silverado is, which has been the case for years but since 2018 they’ve made the GMC the better truck with more cool options. I appreciate the replies you gained yourself another subscriber. Keep up the good work.

Soooooo you start the video off by basically saying you have never really cared about trucks... ever. But you post a 20+ minute video about this truck saying it's a great truck in comparison to all the other brands of trucks... which you said you really dont have any interest in? If you have never liked, nor seen any value in a truck then what again qualifies your assessment of this truck or any truck for that point? Because you have an opinion??? Well you know the saying about opinions I guess.
