    Hi Everyone! I was a little shocked to learn that Chevy hasn't updated this van in 15+ years. Personally, I think it's way overpriced, but technically it's cheaper than two of it's competitors: (1) the Ford Transit (MSRP: $34,510); and the (2) Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (MSRP: $34,494) If you've got a second, check them both out online. I haven't driven either (yet), but they look WAAAAAAY nicer. Let me know your thoughts! Especially if you don't think the Transit and/or Sprinter is a fair apples-to-apples comparison. Stay safe everyone!!

    Ever heard of the Toyota HiAce? That's the van we need in the US and Canada. They're sold in Mexico and elsewhere, and it's a super solid van. But sadly they don't meet our safety standards and it's not fast enough on the American highways. but it's very reliable and durable

    Neither the Ford Transit or the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van are direct competitors with the Chevrolet Express. The Ford Econoline is the best comparison. Both the Chevy Express and the Ford Econoline are built with a body-on-frame design.

    When looking at the price of the Chevrolet Express you should compare it to the price of a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup truck. The basic work vans are actually a bargain for the amount of work you can use them for. Configured correctly you can tow 10,000 pounds with the Express. Maintenance on these vehicles is also much easier when compared to the Transit or Sprinter Van. Most people actually prefer they come with an unfinished interior because they will customize the vehicle for its intended purpose.

    Also its a truck based van, whereas its competition are transaxel car-like unibodys. You should do more research into the design and architecture of these products- it'll keep your opinions from sounding naive.

    Yup, 1996 was the last major change, and they did what they call a "Redesign" in 2003, with a new front end design and new interior design. In 2008, they gave it a new instrument panel, but since then, no changes. However, they're giving it a 400-HP 6.6L V8 for the 2021 model year!!! :)

    I own a 2019 3500 extended length in passenger configuration, this is the oldest new car you can buy. Two thoughts come to mind. The 6.0 (or now 6.6L!) is a huge improvement in power, and a no brainer when buying. Second is that an aftermarket stereo to add CarPlay took about 2 hours and $300. A new head unit makes a huge difference. I can put a motorcycle inside, my whole family, two dogs, and hang a dirt bike off the back and then proceed to drive 1000 miles over mountain ranges with no issue. It’s crude, antiquated, etc. but also phenomenal capability.

    If anyone was curious to know, FedEx Express uses these rental cargo and minivans as work trucks when we need more. My station has 11,12 minivans (grand caravans and pacifica/voyagers) and cargo vans (transit 2500s and ram van 1500s.) more than likely this truck is has done some FedEx work in its past lol, they don’t get treated very well either by drivers, and the minivans can get overloaded. Be wary when looking for used minivans especially, check if they’re prior rentals, cause if so, we and other logistics companies have rented them and beat the crap out of them for months

The back up camera is new to me, it’s actually very handy for getting a trailer hooked up, but after 16 years of driving without one it’s great not getting out to see how close you are to something behind you. lol It seams to ride a little bit smoother than the others I have had but that could be because I literally got out of my old one with 270,000 miles on it and into the new one overnight, so.

    Wow... I bet that it's A LOT different getting into one of these than your regular rental vehicles!!! We get A LOT of these (or the GMC Savana version) in at the Chevy dealership I work for (the used ones come from U-Haul when they sell their vans and trucks, and we have some Chevy Express 12 and 15-Passenger Vans from Avis/Budget when they sell their vehicles. We also get ex U-Haul Ford Transits, and I must say, the Transits are more well-equipped and more well put together than the GM vans (they have standard keyless entry and more lighting in the back, plus the sliding right side cargo door, which comes in handy, and the cloth on the Transit is less scratchy-feeling, and the door panels don't shake as much when you close them). BTW, all of these large cargo vans are RWD (aside from the RAM ProMaster, which is FWD), and the EPA does NOT require fuel economy ratings for 3/4-Ton and 1-Ton large trucks and large vans. I do like these though, and the Express and Savana are getting a 400-HP 6.6L V8 for 2021. :)

    @@311hitwall the express and savana are pretty reliable. I haven't heard much about the Transit but I would believe its less reliable than the E Series it replaced. When a vehicle hasn't changed much in 25 years, there's no need to change it, because it just works. The Chevys and GMCs will be slightly cheaper, yet not as nice inside or as well equipped as the Transits are. The Transit is only slightly better than the Ram Promaster. Regarding the noise, any cargo van with nothing in the back will be similar. That's just a cargo van for you. That's just my 2 cents.

    100RentalCars, I do want to get one of these for living. Prerequisites: 2010-2020, 2500 or 3500, 6-liter gas 'L96' engine, 'G' as the eighth digit in the VIN, no AFM, no DOD, no direct injection. All of those are bad components for this engine, extended 155 inch wheel base, cruise control, maybe install a highroof onto it. Maybe a 4x4 conversion, would like a 'G80' auto-locking rear differential or an ARB brand 'Air Locker'. Add solar, LiFePo4 batteries, et cetera.

    In fact, the body design is the same exact one from 1995! Only difference is that they of course changed the grille a bit in 2003 for 2004 and they ratcheted up the interior just a tad. This is also the direct replacement for the Chevy Van too.

    All the Enterprise Express vans have the V6 and vinyl seats. Believe it or not I once drove a 2019 or 2020 lwb model from them that didn’t have cruise control so no steering wheel buttons! But every other swb and lwb model from Enterprise I drove had cruise control. Did yours have power mirrors? The downside to these is the mirrors are small and you have to aim them in just the right spot to see anything. The side windows in the side cargo doors like on the uhaul express vans helps with the blind spot issue unless you block them with cargo.

  • @CR7659
    @CR76593 жыл бұрын

    They're not required to report fuel economy on 3/4 ton and heavier trucks. In fact Chevy dropped the 1500 in 2014 to get out of it because they can't make these meet CAFE standards. They replaced it with a little rebadged Nissan City Express. It thinks you have a 301 mile fuel range; with 31 gallon tank at just over half that's maybe 17 gallons so it's telling you around 18 MPG. That sounds bad but the weight on this must be around 4500 lbs and it has all the aero of a slightly melted stick of butter. Unless it's now standard, the power windows, locks and mirrors is, believe it or not, still another option package. Vans with rear heat and A/C have a control up between the visors. Little button at left of heater control is probably heated mirrors. My 2002 has that. 1996-2002 also have an actual glove box on the doghouse, the same place where the owner's manual is on this one. Side doors have a check strap which can be pulled off to allow them to open wider. As to price, these were $23,000 or so new in 2002. What I don't care for on these is there are a lot of plastic parts and as they age they get brittle and break. A lot of pieces just snap into place, so if they aren't seated quite right they can cause rattles. They're just not quite as nice as the previous G-vans were.
